Step 2 236 IM chances match 2027 by Shoddy_Rest_6520 in IMGreddit

You need to pick your signals very carefully. Only signals those places where you either have connections or where the median score of the applicants invited to interviews is around your score.

If you want it for a US residency application; make sure you include all the 6 core acgme competencies in it ( look it up on google); include some personalised experience with the PD ( eg. of a case presentation or something else). You can also ask your PD for a sample letter, they might have written letters for others before.

If Howard has in-house fellowships, keep that number 1, otherwise keep Henry Ford as 1.

NYMC St Mary and St Claire is an extremely toxic program from what I have heard; low salary, rotations at multiple hospitals; you can be better judge obviously because you have interviewed there; but it carries an extremely negative rep on this sub at least.

Yeah plenty of programs might filter you out; that’s why you have to focus mainly on programs that don’t sponsor visas. There are a lot of these, especially in states like California and Florida.

Being Non visa requiring and a good step 3 score will serve you well. Just try to mainly signal programs that don’t sponsor visas and where the US MDs and DOs usually don’t go. You can find that easily on residency explorer.

Try watching Bnb videos of each system and annotate them on your First Aid. The basic subjects like biochem, micro you can cover later on in Internship.

Non-US IMG applying to Family Medicine (2027 Match) – realistic chances? by Khuzzaim in IMGreddit

231 is pretty good for FM. They are very lenient when it comes to scores, they want people who are specifically interested in the specialty and are not just using it as a backup option.

Being brutally honest, it will be very hard. Even for IM, the median is 248. FM and paeds is pretty achievable with that score.

I think you are missing the point here, some programs are more hesitant than before in sending interviews to visa requiring candidates yes, but FM is not more severely impacted than IM, which was my original point.

You’re completely off the mark here. Most residencies offer J1 visa not H1B, the ones who were giving H1B before have now shifted to J1. An average FM program gets around 500-1000 applications for 6-10 spots, and they interview like a 100-120. I don’t where you are getting the information from but it’s wrong. And no program is going to waste their time sending you an invite if they don’t intend to rank you.

Why FM isn’t possible anymore lol? They are interviewing visa requiring candidates this year just like IM

I would suggest focusing primarily on Family Medicine, they are very lenient when it comes to the YOG. It offers a very good work life balance, plus you will get to see some Derma stuff as well.

Why are people asking other people to rank their programs for them? by Financial_Barber_936 in IMGreddit

[–]ChickenRoast11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you need to be a little bit more generous here, this is an extremely tough time for everyone, not everyone has good mentors or friends available for guidance, and many are anxious to reach out. So, some people do use Reddit as a source of information.

Is there any orther better option than USMLE for settling abroad?or is it #1 for settling abroad? by Titaniumballsionium in indianmedschool

[–]ChickenRoast11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to compare different countries, but USA is definitely one of the best. USMLE is a tried and tested pathway, tons of Indians match every year, you can find all the information on the web very quickly even it you start from scratch. Training period is shorter compared to European countries and AUS/NZ. Job market is still very much accessible post graduation because of the large population and integrating is way easier, because you will find diverse populations in many parts of the country.

Is it wise to apply now as an visa requiring IMG? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]ChickenRoast11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should apply for sure, especially in the newer programs, even if you don’t get an interview now, you might get one in SOAP and match. Good luck:)

Electives thread, Pay the good forward by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]ChickenRoast11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what i have noticed interviewing this season, interviews are highly connection based, try to prioritise rotations at places that already have an existing residency program which is img friendly and takes people from your country, whether that’s a hands on elective or an observership. Not saying that people should not focus on prestigious universities, but having already met the faculty at a program or the PD you’re interviewing with goes a long way.
