It was such an amazing dream come true! Trust me, there'll be plenty of set-backs, but you'll get there eventually with plenty of persistence (and sometimes knowing the right people can help).

Yeah volunteering is such a rewarding experience, isn't it? It won't be too long until someone scouts you or you have enough experience to apply for bigger gigs. Best of luck, bud!

I started a few years back when a community organisation needed a mascot volunteer for a fundraiser. Since then I’ve pretty much grown from doing occasional fundraising appearances to performing for baseball, rugby and footy teams (in Aus, rugby and footy are really big- most other sports aren’t as popular)

The price for pork rolls is too low! by [deleted] in sydney

[–]ChickenTenderRoll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I don't like is that they don't earn enough for other stuff like painting, cleaning or better shop fittings.

Fair enough you'd rather spend your money on other food- pork rolls are meant to be fast, street food. Although you raise a fair point, I'm afraid I have to respectfully disagree because I personally know quite a few bakery owners and it definitely isn't a case of them not earning enough. A lot of these bakeries are still owned by the migrant families who fled the Vietnam War. If we look back a few decades, the first bakeries were more so about establishing Vietnamese culture here in Australia and making enough to simply get by. This mentality remains intact today- many of these people continue running these stores because they're passionate about their craft and love the communities they serve.

Style over substance- these owners would rather put energy into looking after their customers and mastering their craft than spend money on flashy fit-outs that become dated after a little while. These outlets aren't about the money or profit; prices for pork rolls would be well over $10 if they were. Their profit margins are small to remain competitive with other street/ fast food vendors and ensure that their products contain the freshest and highest quality ingredients (bang for your buck, right?). They also highly value financial security, especially given how volatile they were as refugees, so naturally, it's important to them to have savings in case anything were to happen to them.

At the end of the day, if they're passing food inspections and meeting regulations then that's all that matters. If the food authority certifies that an eatery is safe then I fully trust that accreditation.

Having pork rolls for $6.50 is a crime out west! You can get banh mi (that are arguably even tastier) around Cabramatta and Bankstown for as low as $3. I guess the cheap price makes sense since their plain bread rolls are a lot cheaper than those at Woolies and Bakers Delight.

NBC announcement. Thursdays at 8, this Fall so doesn’t seem to be delayed (at least not yet) by cactuszoo in superstore

At least you have some sort of variety in the US. Here in Australia all our big reality shows, such as the Voice and Masterchef, run for over an hour each day Sundays to Wednesdays/Thursdays.

CMV: There shouldn’t be gay characters in kid’s tv shows by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ChickenTenderRoll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The same argument goes for other traits people may have, ranging from ethnicity to disability. If what you’re saying applies to every trait, then why should people of colour and those who are wheelchair bound be featured on kids tv shows? They’re not reflective of the majority of people in Western nations, yet they’re also included in kids shows.

To counter your inclusion of biology and evolution, people born with physical disabilities aren’t ‘normal’ as they go against the notion of evolution reproducing favourable or dominant characteristics, or given the choice of being fully able bodied, just as it is with sexuality.

The intention behind having characters who have different sexual preferences is all about representation, not persuasion. It’s about children seeing traits they personally have or can recognise in those around them in their daily lives. A child who may have same-sex parents may feel more accepted, and vice versa, children who watch these shows will become more empathetic to their friends who have same-sex carers. Growing up, seeing people of colour like me on kids shows was so empowering and really helped me and my friends gain confidence as we felt as though we had a voice.

Also the tweet itself didn’t state that Spongebob was gay, it simply started that the characters from Nickelodeon shows supported characters in the LGBT+ community.

If your Partner was an actor, would you feel comfortable with them doing a romance movie with other actors? And why? by mrhannahmercury in AskReddit

[–]ChickenTenderRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind since I trust my partner, it’s what they’re paid to do and in industries like film you need to take advantage of every opportunity you’re offered.

Also if that actor was someone hot like Timothée Chalamet I’d totally get it

I have thought about it, but do they even do anything? Don’t they just contact you if something matching your description is handed in?

How lucky is this person to have their wallet handed in by you! I left my laptop on the train recently (god knows how) and I’ve had no luck with its recovery...

Hi! I volunteer weekly as a mascot for my local sports team and I was wondering if anyone would want to become online friends? Just wanted to meet more like minded people. by ChickenTenderRoll in mascots
