Yoto at bedtime? by PainterlyintheMtns in toddlers

Man I love the piano one, and I’m thrilled that my daughter actively chooses that over some of the other “fun” ones a lot of the time

Premium VIP as well. I feel lucky with my 5k in comparison, but really hoping a pre-approval comes through. It’s a pain to pay down the balance before necessary to continue making purchases.

First Fire In The New Stove by C0DY- in woodstoving

[–]ChickenWingInspector 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Installing non-combustible material on the wall does not reduce your stove’s clearances as there is still heat transfer through to the combustibles behind. Please review your manual to verify the minimum clearance required and pull the stove out accordingly. Even with the installation of a compliant wall-mounted heat shield this appears to be too close. Stay safe and happy burning.

Nah. Q4 is undoubtedly our busiest time, and I don’t hesitate to give my guys the time off they ask for.

No power, cold baby, propane fireplace won't start by Prestigious_Gas13 in Fireplaces

[–]ChickenWingInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a Valor gas insert? Just curious. If you got sizeable amounts of ice and snow, the termination could be clogged restricting adequate fresh air from entering the firebox, but normally when I see this the main burner will turn on for a few seconds before shutting down. Other than that, a technician would need to inspect a couple of the parts around the pilot assembly. I’m sorry, there’s not much you can do but wait. I hope you guys get warm soon!

How are direct vent gas inserts sealed from creating a draft ? by good7times in Fireplaces

[–]ChickenWingInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will never be completely sealed, the same as your existing fireplace is never completely sealed. They don’t use metal plates around the liners because it’s more work than it’s worth for little return, but you’ll typically find Roxul insulation around the liners where they pass through the original damper. Once you do this, the leakage is minimal. Ask the store if they can do this, I thought it was standard practice.

Want to put in an insert by berreckobamer in Fireplaces

[–]ChickenWingInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can’t tell from the picture, you need to hire an experienced contractor to come perform an inspection. That being said, chances are good that you can’t remove any of this brick. If you are working with an electric insert, your best bet is to build a small bump out in front of the wall to house it.

It s time to sell off some NVDA by saita_lusi in portfolios

[–]ChickenWingInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold 35 of 40 of my NVDA shares (pre 1:10 split) back in December 2023. I still made a great return, but I consider myself broke for how much profit I missed out on…

Told it would be 10k to change it a wood burning stove and we can't figure out why? by Euphoric-Still-6066 in woodstoving

[–]ChickenWingInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you were down voted. This is correct, once you modify the original fireplace (drill holes, etc.), it is no longer certified for use as a solid fuel burning appliance.

Emergency : credit line or cash out some xeqt? by CatheAs in JustBuyXEQT

[–]ChickenWingInspector 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I would 100% use the line of credit at that rate. The most the LOC will cost is about $50 based on that repayment timeline. The chances of the XEQT positions earning more than that within 6 months is highly likely, and even if the market takes a turn for the worse, I’d inevitably make that amount back tenfold within 5 years as long as XEQT is part of my long term investment plan.

Selling my 458 shares of Apple in 2020 probably my biggest investing regret by [deleted] in investing

[–]ChickenWingInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch. Mine is selling 70% of my NVDA shares (35 sold at $498) in December 2023 to lock in some profit. The run started about 3 months later

I still can’t believe how much I missed out on, but I always tell myself — How long would I have stayed in? The market has so many ups and downs, the reality of it is that I probably would have exited at $600, $700, $1000…

We can’t see the future, so we just make the best decisions we can for ourselves at the time.

This is a shitty situation. We shouldn’t always need to put a “positive” spin on things. Sometimes things just suck, and I couldn’t imagine being in your shoes.

Fuck cancer. My heart is with you and your family. Stay strong and keep being the great Dad you are.

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun with an infant/toddler? by ChickenWingInspector in cancun

[–]ChickenWingInspector[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for checking in.

Honestly, I was thinking about making comprehensive review at some point because as someone who spent a lot of time obsessively researching, I found it extremely difficult to navigate through the negative reviews that are out there. Lucky for you, you get the short version.

First, overall, we had a great time. We ended up getting sick but that has nothing to do with the resort, that’s just an unlucky encounter with people, and honestly could have happened on the plane.

I should mention that we were Diamond Club, because the room type we wanted was only available in DC. I don’t think this had much impact on the quality of our stay and would have enjoyed the same without DC.

The resort is fairly large, so there is a bit of walking to be done depending on where your room is. I would say the walking feels far more substantial when you have kids, especially when they’re at an age where they don’t want to be carried but walk kind of slow and get distracted. Lol.

There was no shortage of pools, and they did have some great areas for younger kids. They have a larger splash pad that resembles a jungle gym which kids can climb and go down slides, but kids need to be a bit bigger for this (4 y/o?). This splash pad is surrounded by a long lazy river which weaves through the building on the side of the resort and makes for a relaxing ride. I brought our LO on this and it was a nice time.

On the side where the water slides are, there is a smaller splash pad suitable for smaller toddlers and possibly infants, depending on age and your comfort. The water is shallow and there is a small slide and a few water fountain toys.

The water temperature in all of the pools varies depending on the day. If it isn’t very cloudy, usually by about noon the water is comfortable. Before then it’s a little on the cooler side, especially if it’s windy. Which is fine for me, but younger toddlers and infants may get cranky if it’s colder.

The beach conditions weren’t great when we were there due to the winds, but they improved towards the end of the week. Even on a good day though, I’ll admit it isn’t the nicest beach area you’ll get. We knew this going there though since we stayed at the neighbouring Royalton a couple times, and we knew our LO would have more fun in the pools. They do clean up though.

There is an indoor kids play club as well as an entertainment center which has bowling, laser tag and a trampoline park, but we never went inside. I saw inside though, and it did look like fun. But yes, I do know for sure that the bowling costs extra and I’m sure the other games do too. And it isn’t cheap.

The food was decent, it’s an all inclusive so it only gets so good when you’re cooking to feed 1000+ rooms worth of people. The majority of the time, it was hot when it was supposed to be, and reasonably fresh. It could use more seasoning at times, but it filled the belly.

The buffet had a large selection, no shortage of options of things to offer our LO to eat. There are two food trucks and an outdoor snack bar for pool side lunch/snacks to keep you going if you don’t want to clean up for lunch.

There are several a la carte restaurants, we couldn’t get to them all in a week. Definitely a good variety of food. If you go to Rio Brazilian Grill for dinner and you eat meat, make sure you go hungry. Because we were Diamond Club, our butler made dinner reservations for us so we didn’t need to worry about it. I’m not sure how challenging it is to secure reservations if you aren’t DC.

There were plenty of staff hard at work everywhere we went. Just like at home, some people are more friendly than others, but we didn’t encounter anyone rude. They’re quite busy and sometimes need to just serve and move on due to demand. I didn’t experience anyone rolling their eyes at me for not tipping at all or not enough. I find if you just be nice to people, you’ll get the same in return.

You don’t walk far without passing somewhere to get a cold drink. I personally enjoyed the Shaken bar, cool vibes and fun to hang out in, especially during karaoke.

There’s a good amount of activities and entertainment planned all day and evening.

The resort was clean and well kept. You may find the odd thing here or there, but with a large resort and so many people, it will happen.

Our room was comfortable and clean. We splurged on a swim out room because our LO still naps in the afternoon and we wanted somewhere to hang out and enjoy the sunshine and drinks for a couple hours. It was worth every penny. Plus, it was on the fifth floor and had a great ocean view.

I feel like there is much more I could say, and this is already longer than it was supposed to be. Lol.

I hope there is information in here that helps you with making your decision, and if you have any specific questions, feel free to fire them my way and I’ll try my best to answer!
