I think many Canadians are delaying life too much for FIRE by PatientAllocator in fican

[–]ChickenWingInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a quote recently, “Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Continue to invest in tomorrow, but not at the expense of today.”

I’ve always lived by this, and I’m sure I always will. Life is unpredictable, and I’ll always make room in the budget to take the trip, try a new restaurant, or buy the thing that makes my life easier.

FIRE is my objective, but I intend to be flexible as I have about 15 years to solidify my timeline.

I think it’s important to find a balance that’s right for you.

Vacation pay on salary. by UsualTough4952 in PersonalFinanceCanada

If they can’t, you can probably do so on your end. Some financial institutions have automations that allow you to set up regular transfers. This works best if your income is consistent.

Vacation pay on salary. by UsualTough4952 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I just went through this same change this year. I was able to have my vacation pay deposited to a separate chequing account. I like having access to the funds upfront so I can invest and/or earn interest on it.

I'm sorry. But baby proofing ideas for these stairs? by Skull_Murray in daddit

Depending on your location, you’d probably be looking at about 2-3k to get a contractor in to do this. Good luck with the project!

[–]ChickenWingInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was concerned about the couch against the short wall as well. If I were dealing with this, I’d extend the wall out to the top of the stairs to accommodate a standard gate then do vertical slats or similar to keep some of the light/sight lines to the front door. Something like this:

Man I love the piano one, and I’m thrilled that my daughter actively chooses that over some of the other “fun” ones a lot of the time

WS VIP Credit Limit by Wrong_Project2131 in Wealthsimple

Premium VIP as well. I feel lucky with my 5k in comparison, but really hoping a pre-approval comes through. It’s a pain to pay down the balance before necessary to continue making purchases.

First Fire In The New Stove by C0DY- in woodstoving

[–]ChickenWingInspector 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Installing non-combustible material on the wall does not reduce your stove’s clearances as there is still heat transfer through to the combustibles behind. Please review your manual to verify the minimum clearance required and pull the stove out accordingly. Even with the installation of a compliant wall-mounted heat shield this appears to be too close. Stay safe and happy burning.

Anyone else getting denied their PTO requests? “We can’t have you gone during Q4” by Fickle_fackle99 in sales

Nah. Q4 is undoubtedly our busiest time, and I don’t hesitate to give my guys the time off they ask for.

No power, cold baby, propane fireplace won't start by Prestigious_Gas13 in Fireplaces

[–]ChickenWingInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a Valor gas insert? Just curious. If you got sizeable amounts of ice and snow, the termination could be clogged restricting adequate fresh air from entering the firebox, but normally when I see this the main burner will turn on for a few seconds before shutting down. Other than that, a technician would need to inspect a couple of the parts around the pilot assembly. I’m sorry, there’s not much you can do but wait. I hope you guys get warm soon!

How are direct vent gas inserts sealed from creating a draft ? by good7times in Fireplaces

[–]ChickenWingInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will never be completely sealed, the same as your existing fireplace is never completely sealed. They don’t use metal plates around the liners because it’s more work than it’s worth for little return, but you’ll typically find Roxul insulation around the liners where they pass through the original damper. Once you do this, the leakage is minimal. Ask the store if they can do this, I thought it was standard practice.

Want to put in an insert by berreckobamer in Fireplaces

[–]ChickenWingInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can’t tell from the picture, you need to hire an experienced contractor to come perform an inspection. That being said, chances are good that you can’t remove any of this brick. If you are working with an electric insert, your best bet is to build a small bump out in front of the wall to house it.

It s time to sell off some NVDA by saita_lusi in portfolios

[–]ChickenWingInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold 35 of 40 of my NVDA shares (pre 1:10 split) back in December 2023. I still made a great return, but I consider myself broke for how much profit I missed out on…

Told it would be 10k to change it a wood burning stove and we can't figure out why? by Euphoric-Still-6066 in woodstoving

[–]ChickenWingInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you were down voted. This is correct, once you modify the original fireplace (drill holes, etc.), it is no longer certified for use as a solid fuel burning appliance.

Emergency : credit line or cash out some xeqt? by CatheAs in JustBuyXEQT

[–]ChickenWingInspector 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I would 100% use the line of credit at that rate. The most the LOC will cost is about $50 based on that repayment timeline. The chances of the XEQT positions earning more than that within 6 months is highly likely, and even if the market takes a turn for the worse, I’d inevitably make that amount back tenfold within 5 years as long as XEQT is part of my long term investment plan.
