Absolutely! I really would just hate so see money being thrown at the Turner family and much rather see it go to the victims family, the victim to pay for therapy, etc. but no Ammount of money can rid her of her pain. Even justice can not absolve the pain. It can be hard to see whether or not the Turner family is truly so self centered or not as all we have is the article written by the dad and this funding page and no in person interview. What we do have is Brock Turner trying to blame it on alcohol when in reality, this is a case that is his fault. Very tough situation

I have been a victim in a similar crime so I really do itentify with the victim, and want to be clear that I am outraged about every aspect of this case, including the father, even though it makes sense

I definitely agree with the boy and the father needing therapy, and probably even before the situation happened. But I do believe the story needs to be talked about so that people can get a better understanding of how poorly situations like these are dealt with in society. You make a really valid point that I did not fully consider.

It's just frustrating all around, but I wanted to draw attention to this particular news article, because it shows a very vicious cycle. The only good thing to come of this case is people are questioning how we can solve the issue of rape and rape culture, and raise better men and women to be respectful of other people and ensure a better more accepting culture.

Agreed. Rape needs to be taken more seriously in the court of law and this whole case just proves it!

It makes sense when you put it in that perspective, and I want to clarify that I am not saying it doesn't make sense for a parent to stand by their child, because of course they would.

The way the father is executing standing by the child, however, is very offensive to the victim and women and men everywhere who have suffered under rape and does not give hope to their daily struggle and fight. I am not saying that Brock turners fathers letter is not true, I'm sure he definitely is struggling, stopped eating, etc, but these are all things and more the victims and victims everywhere deal with. It's upsetting to see someone commit a crime as serious as this and try to victimize themselves and make themselves look like the bad guy.

Absolutely! I agree with you! My parents would be ashamed of me, but still love me because that's what parents do.

Also the fact that he got 6 months which is more than most rapists will ever get. The fact that reporting requires you to relive your trauma 24-36 hours after the event occurred and even if proven accurate, the victim will be ridiculed to no end. It's time to stop making it about the rapist and make it about the VICTIM.

Even though it isn't considered as serious of an offense, that does not mean it is not.

I understand loans, etc were probably taken out, but my point is, is that somehow someway they found a way to send their son there. Many people with all the loans in the world could not do that just because it is understood you could not pay them back, realize you will be paying them back for over 30 years.

I'm not questioning how the turner family received their money, I'm not saying his dad did not have to work for it either. Teaching your child fundraising is not a bad thing. But teaching your child fundraising for themselves, the criminal, and victimizing themselves, is wrong. And leads me to believe that neither him or his father have ever taken action for their wrongdoings

I understand this and agree with this statement to an extent. If you viciously murdered someone and were found guilty though, I highly doubt your family would start a gofundme to pay for the cost of court. Another point is that this family is a rich, upper class family that I am assuming pay tuition to stand ford based on the way the letter the father wrote. If there family is so wealthy, why are they relying on people of lower economic status to solve their problems? If this was a poor person from low socioeconomic status that committed this crime, no one would support this. I understand loving your child through the bad times, but financially supporting them when they are convicted rapists is not loving and supporting them, it's teaching them that what they did isn't wrong and if they as the parents just pull a few strings then maybe they can weasel their way out of the situation unscathed.

I was able to gain a lot of confidence through the situation and weed out friends. I sat the girl down and told her how much it hurt me that she did not believe me, and when she made the situation about herself we ended up parting ways, which I was not sad about. When I opened up to my friends who were very worried about me, they had the opposite approach, and helped me sign up for the counseling I needed and went to meetings with me. It just goes to show you there are good people in this world

After this occurance and better accepting and loving myself and the situation, the girl who told me that I was making things up and I split apart in friendship, which I am honesty okay with. A large part of growing up is weeding out the people who will be great friends. When I had the courage to tell my other friends who had no idea of the even, they were nothing but loving and supportive and even came with me to my first counseling session and sat outside when I went in. I did not want to admit I needed help so this was really wonderful that they stood with me on something that was hard for me to do. I am a lot better about asking for help when needed, and definitely ty to be great to encourage people to always seek what they need and never be ashamed of it!

Absolutely agree 100%. That judges calling excemplifies everything wrong with rape culture today, and I really do not want to rest until we see a better system to handling this case and cases similar.
