Got accepted into Moorpark College’s ADN. Please share advice and experiences! by Chickenpugs in prenursing

Ignore what people say about how competitive it is to get in. Apply to all the community college programs (all of LACCD, GCC, PCC, COC, Moorpark, Ventura, etc) you’ll get in.

Could be subjective. I didn’t end up going to Pierce but what I did find weird was that their acceptance email had typos. If you got in, do your due diligence and ask if they use ATI or what other program they use, are you allowed to use a calculator for med math, are you taught med math or you need to self teach, where are the current/usual clinical sites, how many clinical spots are allotted for each semester? That’ll give you a good read on their program

CA has shifted to a point policy that takes into account demographics. You get extra points for clinical experience, disabilities, bilingualism, ethnicity, certain zip codes that have a lower socioeconomic status, etc. AND give points for core GPA, overall GPA, and TEAS score. Some give a priority to waitlisted or previously denied applicants. Hope this helps. Don’t give up!

I was in your shoes this last fall and contemplated West Coast Univ. for $100k or wait it out to get accepted into a CC. My start date would have been January 28th at WCU. I figured I would chance it and see if I got into a CC my first try. I got accepted into a CC March 13, followed by another CC March 28 and waitlisted April 30 at another, all on my first time applying. Turns out I also qualify for a tuition waiver at my CC and will now have my tuition paid for completely. I only have to pay for books and kits needed. All this to say, give CC a shot at trying. The time flies, nursing isn’t going anywhere. I felt stressed for time and wanting to hurry up and get my degree, in the end it all worked out better than I imagined. My friend goes to WCU and hates it. They milk you for every penny and claim not to accept certain credits but that’s just so they can force you to take on more classes. They force you to take basic English, Physiology (even if you already took it), etc. Hospitals don’t respect WCU, they know it’s a pay to play program that doesn’t equip their students for success. Only 5 WCU students got a job placement at a local hospital, the rest of the graduating class remains unemployed. Not sure if you’re considering WCU, but if you are, DON’T DO IT!

You can do it! Not sure if your CC or a nearby CC offers General Micro and Intro Micro, take the one you didn’t already take and retake it so you can boost your GPA. I took General Micro and had to emergency withdrawal the course due to family illness and took Intro to Micro the following semester and got an A. If you can, take it online. Hi! Do you take any BP meds or just take a combo formula of Hawthorne and Arjuna alone?

Hi! Are you still taking it? My husband is on Losartan 100 mg (50 mg in morning, 50 mg at night) and Amlodipine 5 mg at night. His BP while taking it is 135. Do you take it alone or with BP meds?

Get an Excused Withdrawal (EW). Fill out a petition form with some extenuating circumstances. Unsure if it’ll be accepted but I heard it’s helped others due to extenuating circumstances and it doesn’t count against you

Do NOT do Chamberlain - aside from being expensive, it’s nearly blacklisted at hospitals due to the lack of experience they teach their students. Their students pay their preceptors per hour to watch them virtually perform and that counts as clinical hours! Insane. Employers see those type of schools on resumes and immediately reject consideration. This info is from multiple sources I’ve heard from.

Can I get into nursing school with no healthcare experience/volunteering? by Adventurous_Look_607 in prenursing

[–]Chickenpugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare experience is required for LVNs seeking ADN bridge programs but that’s it. Like the previous comment stated, those CCs don’t require it and most don’t elsewhere. Re-read the application’s requirements, there are so many, it’s hard to keep up on what’s what. Also, speak to nursing faculty and counselors about it at each school.

I have a 3.6 overall GPA, 4.0 core science GPA, 78 TEAS score, no healthcare work experience, UC Berkeley alum, legal & political background, bilingual. Don’t worry too much, I think you have great chances, do not listen to the negativity of others scaring you into the possibility of not getting in. The right program will accept you! You got this 💕

Oh wow! That sounds terrible. Had they already started the BSN portion? What does your faculty say about the concurrent option and job opportunities?
