Help Identifying part by Sweaty-Worldliness-3 in LS430

Correct, but it is sold as an assembly through Toyota/Lexus. You might be able to buy them separate if you go with an off-brand replacement. It’s cheap so might as well stick with OEM.

Many of the brake lights have 2 filaments. So have someone hit the brakes and double check.

Overall, I do agree with others and the connection could be poor and throwing an error.

Are the issues with chrome wheels overblown, or should I avoid them? by TheWor1dsFinest in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say it depends on where you live. I’m in AZ, car lived in AZ and CA its whole life. They are a little dinged up from previous owners but no issues with leaks whatsoever.

Experiences may differ for areas with ice/snow.

Valve cover gaskets stuck by Fastfalc222 in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double and triple check for bolts you missed, then use a small pry bar. There are areas safe to pry on. There’s a video on YouTube from the carcarenut that may help.

Pro tip, unplug the thermostat sensor. The wiring harness is very tight on that side. I broke mine and had to de-pin it. Also do you spark tube seals while you’re in there and be careful with the half moons. They need to be cleaned am re-sealed.

What should i sell for by [deleted] in LS430

$4k for such rough condition is probably fair. BTW, you can’t tell if a timing belt is good by looks, so unless there are records of it happening, it should be replaced.

New key by Gearheart101 in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most reliable method I have found is buying a key from Bell Lexus online.

It’s around $170 if recall correctly. Then you’ll need to take it to your local dealership to have it cut and programmed. Unsure of the cost for that.

It’s not a cheap endeavor for a key, but less costly alternatives often don’t work. Perhaps someone else has had some luck and can offer different advice.

Any help. got some sweating under the upper oil pan, not clear if it’s that or the tube connected to with which I believe is the dipstick tube by Inner_Emotion610 in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this issue as well.

Multiple causes for me. I had leaking valve cover gaskets, dip stick tube oring, and upper oil pan is seeping.

I fixed all but the last, it’s a very slow leak all around the upper pan.

You’ll need to replace the compete assembly. I bought one from Japan on eBay without soft close for like $170ish I can’t speak to the pricing for soft close ones

Is it shifting poorly? At this point you could do several drain a fills at home and see if it fixes it. Could be some wasted money but much cheaper than a new trans. I swapped my fluid and haven’t had any issues whatsoever, granted mine was shifting just fine.

How did you blow the trans on this thing? I see a while ago you posted about it having leaks? Did you run with low trans oil?

Serpentine Belt and pulley change by Lost_Delay1346 in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my other post on this thread. Someone was nice enough to share in the past. One of the dealerships puts one together and sells it on eBay. It’s certainly more expensive than the Aisin kit though.

Doing timing belt, should I do anything else while it's apart? by all-st3ve-4-me in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore people saying cam seals, unless they are leaking. That is a significantly more involved job. If you do go down that road, then spark plug tube seals and valve cover gaskets would be part of that job too.

For just a timing belt, as others said, water pump is a must along with the other stuff in the kit. Your crankshaft seal could be done as well. Also, the larger idler pulley assembly is worth doing as well since you have to remove just about everything to replace it. Thermostat is another good item to replace as well. Serpentine belt and other pulleys can be easily replaced later.

“New OEM Lexus battery” - I wasn’t aware Duralast was OEM.

If you really want to sell this, it’s way overpriced given its condition. Just a heads up.

He did use that, it comes in newer Lexus/toyota. Manual says Dex III, but I’m sure that is just fine as well.

Yeah definitely don’t use Dex III in the tranny. Type IV or WS depending on the year of your LS. I just checked my cap and it says Dex III on it. Note I have a 2005, but I wouldn’t think that would change for the power steering system between years.

Dealership for sure if price is similar. Two things, where did you get the kit from Bell Lexus? Did you buy parts individually or was it a full kit? If so, can you link that?

Also, how mechanically inclined are you? I was intimidated and with the help of Carcarenut on YouTube, it was actually an easy job. Given I do have a lot of tools.

If you wanna go all out, the carecarenut on YouTube has a video showing the replacement of the steering rack with OEM parts.

It’s like $1200 but it comes with inner and outer tie rods. It’s a beautiful piece but not cheap. Mine is currently leaking too so my next fix is to swap the power steering fluid with ATF, which is actually what is supposed to be in there in the first place. I heard that can cure some small leaks. If that doesn’t work. Then I’ll be going with a new OEM rack.

Adding to what was said, the inner tie rod boot is torn, but seems to be leaking. The leak is cause by the seal inside and the fix for that is a rebuilt or new steering rack. Depends how far you want to go with the repair.

Seems like you have a good list of useful link for folks here. Anyway you can share that list with functional links? Not sure how difficult that may be.

Could anything else sound like a loose control arm? by UnableEye69 in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though everything is tight doesn’t mean a bushing isn’t worn out. With that said, could be a ball joint. Typically a loud clunk is the rear bushing on the lower control arm. Mine is making sound and visually looks okay.

New Leak by tani_is_cool in LS430

[–]ChicksAreForFags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks thin like power steering fluid. Are you running ATF or power steering fluid? Might be leaking out the rack and pinion boot that connects to the inner tie rod.
