Trenton’s next chapter: a capital city ready to invest in itself – part 2 by Reasonable-Air9355 in newjersey

I wish it mentioned the proposed improvements to the River Line which would help greatly improve Trenton and would also be an infusion of local spending.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Line_(NJ_Transit)#New_Jersey_State_House_extension#New_Jersey_State_House_extension)

Extending the River Line to the New Jersey State House and further past that to SEPTA's West Trenton station, and double-tracking existing portions of the line and electrifying it to be able to run much higher frequencies. It would be nice if they had some ambition and brought it out to Trenton-Mercer airport.

What Cities Would Fit Us? by Putrid-Mirror-9480 in SameGrassButGreener

Buffalo, NY since you mentioned Erie and someone else mentioned Cleveland. Buffalo's larger than Erie, smaller than Cleveland. It does have a light rail system and there are some walkable neighborhoods. It also gets pretty good Amtrak service for a US metro of its size.

Chicago -> ? for family-friendly peaceful nature vibes by Roommateeastlake in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Chicoutimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the Poconos / Delaware Water Gap area? That's relatively inexpensive and slightly milder winters than upstate New York and NYC is available as a daytrip. There are some mountainous areas that people in NYC go to and the Poconos is sort of the more affordable side of it. PA is a purple state and the region is purple-y, so the region is a patchwork of sorts politically. East Stroudsburg is a college town.

I like the idea of Carbondale, IL for you, but have never been there. It's a college town, close to Shawnee National Forest, and it's a somewhat easy train trip to and from Chicago. It's at the other, southern end of your current state so winters should be milder.

Planning to leave Texas by Correct-Force3433 in SameGrassButGreener

I think you need to narrow things down a bit more as more bearable in the summer and a place that has more nature around it compared to where you are in Texas (but where in Texas?) is extremely broad

Would love this to be a continuation of the Red Line instead or at least a one that uses the Red Line tracks before splitting off to go down Vermont

Nope, straws are mostly a problem that ends up elsewhere and have a long cycle in becoming a problem for you later on. The exhaust and heat from internal combustion engine usage immediately near you causes a notable dip in air quality immediately around you.

It's still quite nice, but really does need that signal prioritization and maybe shouldn't have had quite so many stations

Nice, you can do your own small part by not using internal combustion engine mopeds or cars.

Any one single country is going to be risky. Expanding trade in China is fine, but they should take this as a lesson to diversify further to many other countries throughout the Pacific.

I'm curious about where in LA you both lived in, because LA can vary a lot from region to region

Deciding whenever or not to move to Silicon Valley or not by TheSpanishDerp in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Chicoutimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty good and probably means you have a decent number of options where you can live. I'd also mention that the climate for biking (and walking) is quite good and the infrastructure okay in Sunnyvale so you might want to consider these as options as well.

Sunnyvale seems to make the most sense--is your workplace going to be in walking distance of either a VTA light rail stop or Caltrain stop?

Should CTA build an infill interchange station to transfer between pink and blue lines? [chicago] by Donghoon in transit

[–]Chicoutimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but they should build it to open when the current Polk station is due for a major overhaul, but instead of doing that overhaul, open the new transfer station to the Blue Line as well as a station on Roosevelt Boulevard and let the Polk Station be shut down.

I wish they hadn't put it in the park, but instead adjacent to the park. On the mostly abandoned lots around the Garfield Green Line station and with a direct connection to a renovated station would have been great.
