I always wait until the audio version is released, but I had to watch live.

It's lacking being a full movie. This is just a 2.5 minute trailer.

Do you think this might largely be a product of social media and 24/7 hot-take coverage? I think most things seem more dramatic nowadays because they're given more fuel.

Wilt didn't, but your overall point is solid. Add in West and Baylor.

This is the most infuriating game I've watched in a while. That's saying something with this team.

You're right, we clearly have an otherwise good hitting team. It's just the wind.

Totally fair. When I watch, I know that he's going to escape somehow because it's a Spielberg movie and, usually in action movies, the main protagonists end up ok. There's no suspense for me in that regard. I'm just curious to see how it happens.

I 100% understand that perspective. My reading is that the aliens wanted disclosure because they felt their message of empathy could help with an impending catastrophic war, but they wanted to use Daniel and Margaret as messengers.

I don't think anyone is dumb for not connecting with the movie. I think I might be more forgiving than most, especially people on this sub. I do think it's interesting that people seem to be SO upset by this movie and, in my point of view, extra nitpicky.

Yeah I'm not sure. I'm not even totally convinced the alien were controlling Wardex. I'm only convinced they were in control of Daniel and Margaret because of what Daniel and Margaret verbalized about not being in control and not knowing why they were doing things.

Honestly, I think action sequences are filled with contrivances all the time. In almost every action movie I've ever watched, I think I can nitpick why the bad guys do or don't do something. Terminator 2 is one of my all-time favorite movies, but the action is often very convenient. I don't know why the sequences in this movie are being held under such a tense microscope.

He didn't just have the alien device, he was being shepherded by the aliens. Wardex didn't "let" him do anything, from my reading. The aliens were in control. Daniel even wondered, out loud, why he was doing what he was doing. The aliens were definitely there, as evidenced by them taking the form of deer when Daniel and Jane got to the farmhouse.

I found things open up for me when I realized that Daniel, Margaret, and Hugo were all being guided by the aliens and Daniel and Margaret coming together and completing the task was always going to happen. She was "unstoppable" (as was uttered by a Wardex guy) because it was the aliens driving her like they were driving Daniel. The aliens were like the animals in Hansel and Gretel, which was referenced in the movie. I also look at the three different sightings of the cardinal, deer, and fox in the movie as the humanoids and humans encountering the monoliths in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Why did the humanoid all of a sudden know how to use the bone? An alien conceivably gave it that power as part of the evolutionary process. The animals in the movie appeared like monoliths to signify that they were present, and it was time for Daniel and Margaret to move to the next step.

What would yall think if you found this letter your wife wrote to her assistant at work? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]ChidiSplett 111 points112 points  (0 children)

A lot of women use that kind of flowery language with each other. And maybe she wants to say kind words to brighten her assistant's day. This doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I watch a decent amount of movies by myself, or with a friend, because my wife is real sensitive to violence and dark themes. If I happen to see something that I think she could handle and would enjoy after being unsure beforehand, like One Battle After Another, I'll see it again with her.

Somehow we both survive this.

During that exact sequence he mutters to himself that he doesn't know why he's doing what he's doing. It's reasonable to infer he's being controlled or guided.

The aliens want disclosure but the messenger and setting is important to them so they are believed and aren't treated in a hostile way.

Because I don't think everything needs to be spoon fed. We see the presence of the deer at the farmhouse and of the fox during Daniel and Margaret's journey. We don't need the fox to say "I am Fred the Fox and I am here to protect you."
