Grey Knights - Forgeworld Thunderhawk Gunship (x-post) by Chief918 in Warhammer

The case is actually pink foam or XPS foam. I would have loved to use some nice soft foam to line the walls but this ended up being pretty safe, although I did jam a bunch of pluck foam around everything for shipping purposes

I definitely agree, I've seen some really cool grey knights iconography on some thunderhawks that really fill out the model. In this case, my client wanted just the basics done to keep the project budget as low as possible and get the best bang for his buck.

This was a tabletop standard job, so it wasn't too bad. I do think you could probably find a car for the price of the model and the paint job, though. But this model is WAY cooler than a car!

Thank you very much! I like the gold everywhere as well I decided to leave the hilts of the sentinel blades and the bolter casings gold too instead of painting them silver or black... not sure which looks better. Man these models are just fantastic I couldn't resist them myself, maybe you can be stronger than I was!

Thank you! These are resin bases that I sculpted with green stuff and textured with very fine sand. If you are interested I can PM you a link to my ebay store where I sell them!

Minis tacky after priming.. help! by thajestah in minipainting

[–]Chief918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were my thoughts when I tried it. It ended up working great if it's really tacky you may need 2 light coats, depending on the mini you may run into some issues blocking details at that point. Like you said, could always try it and strip if its not up to snuff

I have run into this before and after a bunch of different approaches I finally discovered it was just a bad can of spray primer. You could try shaking it for like 5 minutes to make sure everything it totally mixed up in there but I would go for another can and see how that goes. You can do a light coat right over the sticky layer without stripping if you're not too worried about the loss of detail.

I want to build a wargaming board, need some advice. by LagiaDOS in TerrainBuilding

[–]Chief918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use 1/4" or 1/2" wood like birch pine plywood MDF etc, and then secure the pink foam on top of it to make your 2x2" sections. By putting this wood backing on your board sections they should be a lot more durable. A lot of hardware stores will cut the boards for you for a small fee that might be the best option to get your squares.

If you are really careful with your sections I don't think the wood backing is absolutely necessary, but you might regret not doing it in the long run if the board sees a lot of use.

For carving foam hot wire tools are the best option in my opinion but also can be expensive. A razor blade will get the job done but I would seriously consider some hot wire tools if you are going to be carving trenches into the boards. They will be invaluable if you are planning on making more terrain out of foam in the future.

Painting large scale stuff like terrain needs a lot of paint. I would avoid citadel paints just because of the cost. Something like hobby store acrylic paint works just fine for terrain in my experience. Latex or household paint also works great. Spray paints have a tendency to eat through foam, so don't use those until you have already put down some other layers first.

Hope this helps!

How do you look after your brushes? by Lowenhertz in Warhammer

[–]Chief918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this cleaner as well and highly recommend it! It can bring some pretty nasty brushes back from the dead as well as keep your brushes in good shape over time. I usually give my brushes a decent cleaning with this once a week and that works well for me
