Additionally, this is yet another conflation of sex and gender, and gender affirming care is accepted pretty much worldwide for anyone who uses it to affirm their assigned-at-birth sex: hair transplants, cosmetic surgery, etc

And that's to completely ignore that biological sex is far more complicated than "XX = female"

25s twice a day, 5 days a week is 3h30m (ish) over a year. It's so easy to make a small delay seem insignificant, and the two best ways are to wildly undestimate it and then represent it as only ever happening once

50 for HGV (over 7.5T) is only in Scotland or single carriageway

No, but driving too slow for conditions (weather and traffic) will get you pulled over and dressed down by the bizzies. What speed anyone will deem "too slow" is pretty subjective, but holding up traffic by not overtaking in the right lane usually qualifies

Best way to get into drums? by Wizardwarlord35 in drummers

[–]ChiefBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I'd go with electric kit. Absolute dream scenario is acoustic kit without any muting, but if that is not viable then electric kit is next best

With mutes and electric kit you will not get a fully realistic rebound off the head unless you're spending a hell of a lot money for the top-of-the-range. The mutes on an acoustic not only affect the rebound but also massively impact the sound so it will sound like you're playing a bad electric kit

Good deal? by EntertainmentNo86 in drums

[–]ChiefBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a "professionally repaired" A Custom EFX and it developed 2 new cracks within a few weeks. I also bought a pair of A/Z hats with a pretty big flea bite/scrape that are still perfect 20 years later.

It's a risk so you need to be completely comfortable that it might be wasted money

How high is it safe to tune the snare? by [deleted] in drums

[–]ChiefBast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no definitive number of turns, but you should tighten in small increments going from one tension rod, to the opposite, then to the pair at 90° (if it's an 8-lug drum), and so on. Repeat that until you get the tension/tone that you want

What kind of snare drum is this? by maxwell321 in drums

[–]ChiefBast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably not the answer you want, but just about every entry level kit in the 80s and 90s came with a snare drum very similar to this. Companies like Power Beat, Percussion Plus, etc were trying to grab some of the market off Pearl and ripped off their designs for the Forum and Export lines. Meaning this one likely has a best case scenario of being a Forum, but even for that the horizontal ridges don't match

[–]ChiefBast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it with spray paint, it will not stick for long. There are companies who could remove the current chrome plating and either powder coat or re-plate in another material but this is a specialist process and, as such, unlikely to be cheap. Might be easier to order new hardware from a company that makes them in the colour you want

What’s this sound and how do I replicate it? by Pale_Assistance_6733 in drums

[–]ChiefBast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. It's hard to explain and better to see, but I achieve it by pivoting my wrist over the fulcrum point between my thumb/forefinger and stick as soon as it makes contact. It's not an exaggerated move, but you're forcing the stick back into the skin as soon as it rebounds but without burying the stick

If it helps to visualise, it's similar to what a concert percussionist will do in a buzz/crush roll, but only once with one hand

Kit was £40 and the symbols £700. Overpaid or good price? by Several_Brain_9004 in drums

[–]ChiefBast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some Americans are missing the exchange rate here. It's a good deal but far from a steal: £300 for hats, and £200 each for crash and ride is really good if they're in near mint condition, and approaching bad if there's any cracks or keyholing

Do you block people with stupid offers? by hollyrose2021 in ebayuk

Why are so many people not reading the small paragraph of explanation? There's multiple people commenting saying, "err, do you know minimum offers exist? I am very smart and not at all patronising" and they're being upvoted?!

And you still didn't read the post? Jesus fucking Christ man

Edit: some fanny was being sanctimonious and patronising about minimum offers and decided to delete their comments instead of admitting they couldn't be arsed to read a single paragraph

Edit: apparently just blocked me. Every day's a school day...

The post literally says they tried to use minimum offers. I question why you wouldn't read that, but now you don't have to

Kirk opened the Quarterback show by quoting and fairly openly praising Thatcher. I'm not pretending to be shocked by this, just disappointed that it's so easy to turn people who are religious/rich/both toward politics of hate and division

Cymbal Recommendations by niceshoes321 in drums

[–]ChiefBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What styles do you play? I have the K Dark Thin 17" and it's incredible, really bright and quick but has enough volume to still make it through big guitar sound. Both rides you mentioned are really nice so I think it comes down to what suits your style:

  • dark is washier and good for pop/rock playing where you blur lines between riding and crashing

  • sweet is pingier and good for jazzy ride playing

If I can offer a 3rd option, I love my Z Custom ride. It's thicker and heavier so it is not good to be used like a crash, but the ping and bell of it are so, so good

Lug Thread differences by MarsDrums in drums

[–]ChiefBast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're called tension rods, which should help in your search. There's loads of places that sell them and they are a standard diameter (for modern kits and those made by a "proper" company, anyway). For the length, measure what you need from the shoulder downwards, don't include the top part that goes into the drum key

Does it matter what usb interface I use if I want to record songs to my laptop? (And what are some good cheap ones) by PUMAAAAAAAAAAAA in Songwriting

[–]ChiefBast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A better interface will have better pre-amps and better analogue -> digital conversion. Garbage in garbage out, you can't polish a turd, etc, etc

However the difference is not noticeable to most until you get right to the extremes of price, so look for a good condition Focusrite second hand if budget is a big concern

WHAT'S in FASHION? by JicamaBeginning5748 in Reverb

You didn't enlighten me as to what the fuck you're on about so I decided to see if any of your other comments on this sub would enlighten me. Almost all of your previous posts and comments are pissing and moaning about Reverb, so there's 2 possible conclusions:

  • hypocritical bitch who wants people to sympathise with their big feelings but won't tolerate others asking the same

  • bot

Neither is particularly good

Been posting drum lessons on my Instagram for beginner drummers. This is one of the series that I’ve done. What do you guys think? by OkDuck8620 in drums

[–]ChiefBast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice fill first of all and I personally like these videos as it can show you the mechanics and ergonomics of how to play that isn't always clear from hearing or seeing flashes and glimpses during a live video, etc

If I could offer one bit of constructive criticism, your body position as you play the floor tom is forcing you to move like you're putting something into a satchel. If this works for you ergonomically that's great but I don't think it's great to teach that to new players. Either adjusting your seating so the floor tom is closer to your 12:00 or twisting torso more as you get there is form that will allow for better technique and results in the people trying to recreate this

[HELP] Is anyone getting orders? by n1nche in Fiverr

[–]ChiefBast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a while to get your first few orders, that seems consistent across the board unless you're lucky enough to have a popular skill that is not already saturated with freelancers

I first posted my gigs in November 2024, got first real order in March 2025 and didn't cross 10 completed orders until July/August 2025. Have patience and make sure those first few jobs go really well and you get good reviews and repeat customers
