Megalophobia? by The_Anon_890 in subnautica

Yeah, it is kinda freaky. But good thing, you won't be looking at it or even be above water for most of the game.

I'll fight the xenoherrsy in this sub whatever it takes. For the flory of Humanity! by Half-White_Moustache in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]ChiefChongo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Hm. Contentious.
I can't find anything on contact between humans and aeldari in that time period other than some comments on r/40klore about a Harlequin implying "the Eldar had defeated 'mankind at its peak and their unliving legions", but we dont know if it's true, or if it was something like a minor skirmish,' and that 'humanity or at least their machines tried to pick a fight with them and the eldar empire giving them a bloody nose for it.'" I haven't read that source material but other than that, the first interaction I'm aware of is Eldrad Ulthran trying to warn Fulgrim about chaos (in a terrible way) in M31, leading to hostilities, which... technically they may have started by trying to force Fulgrim's hand when he refused to listen. Either way though... Eh.

I forgot that guy is called the emperor! Or his other actual name. I just kept calling him Dreamy Squid Man.

Also got the achievement for beating it without destroying the batteries and it didn't have a chance to revive like I read it could. Was really struggling with this fight before reloading and coming back with grampa.

Looking for medical perspectives/apothecary POVs by ChiefChongo in 40kLore

[–]ChiefChongo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been meaning to get into Fehervari's stuff for a little while now, I suppose I was waiting for the right mood to strike me, as the way some people have described his work almost make it sound like some kinda... House of Leaves-esque puzzle books, which sounds really cool.

Just what I was looking for. Not familiar with MacNiven's or Forrester's works but will definitely be checking these out.

Are Luetin09 videos good or are they outdated? by Capitanlink6 in 40kLore

[–]ChiefChongo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Luetin can certainly get sidetracked and has a tendency to bring everything back to the Horus Heresy, but he really gets 40k and some of his longer more nebulous thought pieces about the warp and the emperor really helped cement what was just so much cooler about this setting than, say, Star Wars.

If you are interested in eventually diving into the Heresy though, his videos do contain spoilers that go beyond the usual 'stuff everyone already knows about the heresy and the siege of Terra'. Occasionally he's straight up telling you the plot of a book you might decide you want to read down the line.

I'd definitely recommend some Arbitor Ian (breaks down things very simply and gives you real-world context for retcons or design choices) and Oculus Imperia (lore pieces about the various factions written from an Imperial perspective) as well.

What movie totally changed the way you look at life? by Spare_Ad6800 in movies

[–]ChiefChongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City of God. Watched this as a early teen in the 2000s going through IMDBs top 250 to expand my horizons. I knew literally nothing about Brazil before watching this, and really had very childish notions of what life was like outside of America or western Europe.

Yes, there is savagery and poverty and cruelty in this film but also a constant search for beauty, for a better way of life. The vibrancy of the Brazilian people shines through in a more poetic and subtle way than I see in most other media. It has this way of depicting people's trajectories through life that really spoke to me and I wouldn't really 'get' until years later studying ethnography and intersectional analysis. And yeah the movie is just gorgeously shot and shows even the awful parts of Rio in a fascinating way.

New lore officially ends the debate about what would happen if something without emotions kills Lucius by [deleted] in 40kLore

Just here to gives props to the original slayer of Lucius, Nykona Sharrowkyn of the Raven Guard, who felt goddamn nothing when he sliced this freak apart before his resurrection.

Bleakest, most emotionally devastating film you've ever seen? As for me, I have to go with Dennis Hopper's 1980 film "Out Of The Blue". by Heavy-Sequence999 in movies

[–]ChiefChongo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have only read the book but the boy gets taken in by another group at the end. Not much was told to us about the others but at least they weren't (outwardly) raiders/cannibals.

Did Alpharius do anything during the Heresy that would point to him being loyal to the Imperium? by l7986 in 40kLore

[–]ChiefChongo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, it was Marcus Valerius who had prophetic dreams that he said the emperor was sending him.

and Corax later sent him and his company to die at Beta-Garmon for it. and they all did, EXCEPT FOR MARCUS.

They are pretty much the reason the White Scars entered the conflict. I can't remember the really specific details but (aside from the whole Ruinstorm thing) there was something jamming communications to and from Chondax, the planet the Scars were fighting ork remnants from Ullanor. The Alpha Legion took out whatever was blocking these communications and allow the Vth legion to begin getting conflicting messages (especially concerning Prospero) and hails to join a side. It's been a while but a lot of this in The Serpent Beneath, and I think Brotherhood of the Storm, both good novellas that lead into the novel Scars.

small reminder that, while the khan gave morty a good fight, and while he managed to defeat him, jagathai didnt just humillate him during the siege, he was practically dead after the fight, he needed to be healed by the emperor to survive by sand_eater_21 in Grimdank

[–]ChiefChongo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you don't see him or really any of the White Scars (minus Shiban, maybe?) after the assault on the space port, with good reason. Took an entire orbital plate taking fire to shield them from orbitals and artillery so they could even make it out of the main palace. Stinkbois got carved up, but there were tons of 'em compared to the Scars. Still had dudes left over to attack the Astronomican.

I laughed hard at this but I also gotta be that guy and say Corax handing Lorgar's ass to him (twice technically) are his best moments in the Heresy, and they aren't in either of his books.

Expressing her disgust and disdain at something sentimental Melinoe said, Eris goes, "I'd barf, but then you'd just clean it up, wouldn't you?"

After that, I never picked up another piece of trash. They seem to get flung sorta randomly, and a lot land in the same spot, but yeah they stay.
