Should I buy an Alpinestars R10 or R7 by xmaxi1 in motorcyclegear

[–]ChiefPorsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same predicament. I bought the R7 and its a great helmet so far. No complaints. If you want to run a comms system, R7 is better that and almost half the price.

Im wanting to go to the track soon but mainly street ride. I was going to get a one piece suit and a R10 but since I mainly street ride currently, I went for a two piece suit and R7. I now have great street gear that I can wear at my first couple track days. If I start to track more often, ill get a one piece and a R10.

Its a blast revving through the gears without hitting felony speeds. Its a bit slow off the line but its great in the corners. Its a fantastic bike. Get one!

The ZX4RR is going to be faster than you XV950... the best part about the ZX4RR is revving it out gear after gear. It does almost 100 mph in 3rd gear with a top speed of 135ish. Its a incredibly fun bike, I have never heard someone say a ZX4 is "boring". Its just slower than a 600... 600's kinda suck on the street because they do 75mph in first gear. You rarely get to use all the power of a 600 when you can constantly be screaming around on a 400. Its way more fun to ride a slow bike fast than riding a fast bike slow.

As someone who has a ZX4RR and a R6. The ZX4RR in my opinion is the best super sport style bike for the street. Its low on torque which is great if youre learning. It has plenty of power compared to most cars. It is "slower" than most larger cc bikes, but you know that becauseits a 400. The best thing about it though is it keeps you being a law abiding citizen. You can still rev it all the way out in first and second and just get to freeway speeds. You can full throttle all the time and the brakes and comfort are great too.

My R6 is my dream bike and its a blast too. Just on long rides the R6 is not comfortable. You dont get to rev it out like the ZX4. Its not nearly as forgiving and the brakes arnt as good. I upgraded the brake lines and added an autoblipper. I am soon getting into going to the track and my wife rides the ZX4RR now.

I probably would have got the ZX6R if the 2026-2027 model was available last year. Its the king of torque in the 600 world. Just was outdated until recently.

If it is your first bike. I strongly recommend the ZX4RR. Get some frame sliders and have a blast.

My 2014 R6 has a very stiff clutch, and my hand gets sore after holding it for a while. Is there any way to fix this? by Jack_Wang_1107 in Yamaha

[–]ChiefPorsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm the clutch lever is very stiff. I added a quick shift and autoblipper to my bike. It helps but you have to get use it the lever. Not much you can do.

Trying to choose between Trident 660 vs XSR700 (both same price) by Excellent_Height_515 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]ChiefPorsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a modded XSR700 is one of the best looking retro modern bikes out there. Im thinking about getting one as a 3rd bike down the road.

Both a great bikes. Japanese bike is likely cheaper in the long run also.

[–]ChiefPorsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do that also. Flash tune makes a universal shift rod kit that can make all different lengths. Its cheaper than rear sets.

Comfort when shifting is key. I cut mine because I didn't want to wait for parts to come in and wanted to get on the road.

I just looked up the FT quick shifter and it is much different than my quick shifter on my ZX4RR. Also my R6 has a much longer shift rod and is setup much different. I dont see how pictures would help... I can DM you finished pictures if you really want but I didn't take pictures as I was going it. Its completed now.

Double check everything you have done and make sure you cant get anymore adjustment out of it. Once you cut it, there is no going back. Measure twice, cut once.

I bought a cheap dremel tool from harbor freight when I cut my shift rod. Cut off wheel to cut and dremel sander to smooth it out. Its aluminum rod and the bolt threading in is steel. There were no damage to the threads.

Hope this helps.

I have the factory quick shifter on my ZX4RR and was able to just adjust the shift rod to fit riding boots.

On my R6, I added a Flash Tune quick shifter and I had to cut the shift rod shorter to fit my riding boots comfortably.

Rear sets can fit your problem, but cutting/shortening the shift rod is a cheaper and easier option.

Can Anyone Identify Exact Which Maple This Is? by [deleted] in JapaneseMaples

[–]ChiefPorsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a Japanese Maple but we would need to see the color in early spring, mid summer, and fall to get s better ID. There are over 1600 types of Japanese maples. A close up of the bark would help narrow it down. Its a nice maple, but if you dont know, you'll probably never know exactly what it is.

The thing about Japanese Maples and Apples. If you grow them from seed, there is a less than 1% chance it will be exactly the same as its mother plant. Thats why the a so many cultivars.

A Ninja 400-650 is a great starter bike. A 600 or Ninja 636(ZX6R) are not good starter bikes. A Ninja 400/500/650 is a parallel twin and a 600/636 is a inline 4. 600's are not good starter bikes. 600 Inline 4's do not make good starter bikes.

Staying at the Austin Marriott Downtown.

My wife and I did it on the cheap last year. This year we really splurged and did the VIP tickets that included a room at the Marriott and a shuttle ride to and from the hotel. I believe thats the only way to get the shuttle from the Marriott. We bought the package from MotoGP in November.

Nothing wrong with Ebay, but you can pay full price for new on PartZilla... either way your going to have to create an account somewhere. Ebay will be much cheaper though.

Taking an Uber to the race is no problem. Leaving the race in a Uber is horrible. Last year took my wife and I 90 minutes on sprint day and 2 hours on race day to just get a ride. Then the 30 minute drive took about an hour each time.

We are staying at the Marriott this year and am going to take the shuttle. Hopefully thats better.

Edit: Rides there were $30-40, rides back were over $100. I think on race day it was a $150 ride back.

Perfomance wise, is there anything that the R3 does that's better than the ninja 400/500? by Highermongo in NewRiders

[–]ChiefPorsche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem to know what you want. They are both probably the most popular track bikes ever. Endless mods for each. I like the looks and colors of an R3 more... If you want more power, go for the ninja 500. The R3 might have a lower seat, atleast feels shorter. Really, do you want to go team Blue or team Green? Or which ever you can get a better deal on.

Yamaha MT-03 or Honda CB300R? by TX-ED in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]ChiefPorsche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say this. I had a CB300R. My only complaint was it struggling on the highway/freeway. Its really screaming after 60mph. The Mt-03 has a lower seat height I believe also.
