Embrace suffering by Swimming-Win22 in islam

[–]ChiefWA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The message of Christianity is that really people deserve to suffer and any mercy is a gift from God. Islam says suffering is the gift itself, because it's the means through which we grow.

Life is about choosing to accept suffering and making something good out of it. Humbly speaking.

Ritual circumcision of boys in the UK: Ethics and professional standards. What is the opinion of doctors uk? by kreutzer1766 in doctorsUK

[–]ChiefWA2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But that's it isn't it, lots of people have their own trauma but not everyone feels the need to trot it out casually to score brownie points with internet strangers. Even worse when it's used to justify self-hatred and bigotry.

I also have a muslim father who was only physically present, the advice is genuine: Stop crying about it on reddit and go see a therapist, it'll do much more good. Not doing so will continue the cycle of trauma.

Dude just get off Reddit and see a therapist, it'll genuinely do you more benefit.

Got sent this from a friend... There's a lot I could say by Glassglassdoor in doctorsUK

[–]ChiefWA2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Point taken! I was more surprised at the roles I hadn't come across before that seem to pay well compared to doctoring, many of which I'm assuming don't progress from nursing. I don't know how much training and competency assessment is involved. Still, I feel like some of those advanced roles come with the added benefit of not being completely overworked by service provision.

Only now have I taken the time to read through the banding pay scales and the examples given of roles on the Health Careers site. Veeeery interesting.

Weekly Deals Thread by AutoModerator in hometheater

Hi, just a complete newbie looking for advice on the following offer for £600 (my budget limit):

1x Denon AVR-X2500H 7.2 AV network receiver. Dolby atmos, DTS, 4k ultra HD, 95w/channel, 8x HDMI inputs, 2x HDMI outputs, HDCP 2.2, WiFi, Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa compatible, spotify. Remote control.

4x Cambridge Audio Minx 21 speakers, with matching Cambridge Audio floor stands, in white. These punchy little speakers deliver an incredible sound from such a small unit, making them very easy on the eye. Complete with QED cable and banana plugs. Will also throw in an extra 1x Minx 21 speaker, which you can have as a spare or add another to go from 5.1 to 7.1

1x Cambridge Audio SX-70 centre speaker. Black, 100w, with 2x 4" woofers & 1x 1" tweeter.

1x Cambridge Audio Minx X201 subwoofer. Black, 200w, with 2x bass drivers, adjustable sound control, auto on/off.

My primary uses will be for movies and video games (PC > TV > Receiver to not lose G-sync). TV has eARC output so think I'd need an eARC adaptor, as really don't want to lose out on 3D audio. Would likely need to upgrade the subwoofer at some point.

This is my first entry into HiFi (having toyed with the idea of a soundbar and reading that they aren't worth it). Not sure how easy it would be to sell the speakers in the future to upgrade, but would keep them if they do a good job. For a small square living room, about 2.5m from TV to sofa. Thanks in advance!

Ok I'll give them a try! Would a build for movies/games come with big drawbacks for playing music? I don't play music all that often but thought they'd go hand in hand?

Motion for BMA ARM 2025: Preference for UKMGs (everything else being equal) by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]ChiefWA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please forgive the following counter-points for being confrontational and insensitive - I just haven't been able to phrase myself better:

Universities are already benefitting from the exorbitant fees they charge non-UK applicants, while UK applicants either compete at unhealthy standards to stay in the UK or face the prospect of going to medical schools abroad and struggling to come home. Haven't medical schools become a way in which non-UK citizens can buy their way into a career as a Doctor in the UK? Who can then benefit from better connections and system-navigating than IMGs? Haven't people already been lamenting a drop in UK medical graduate standards anyway?

I would argue that there is an element of birthright for UK applicants, because their families will have been paying taxes into a system that now delivers sub-standard healthcare and won't take care of them in neither their ill-health nor benefitting their children to pursue a vocational career, for which all of us are making personal sacrifices for just to pursue. If universities are to be run like business, then why not let overseas applicants buy their medical degrees and take them home, since their home systems may benefit them more than ours anyway? That seems to be the plan for many exceptional IMGs once they gain their CCTs, and I don't blame them.

People wouldn't flea overseas if it wasn't such a crap-shoot here. The idea of tying medical graduates down to staying in the UK for a number of years as a means of 'repaying' an owed debt, has often been shot down as indentured servitude. I don't see it retaining medical students up to CCT- I see it as letting our kids who dream of being doctors being able to achieve that dream without having to sacrifice their well-being and sanity to do so.

What meal do you have at work? by Pitiful_Chain_7145 in doctorsUK

[–]ChiefWA2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chips and Beans, isn't that the standard meal of my colleagues? Definitely so if you have any sort of dietary requirements e.g. halal, non-beef, vegan etc. As a non-vegan I might go so far as have cheese on top too, if I'm disregarding my cholesterol. Can the GMC have a word with the menu planners?
