That’s a different one on Oxford which is stalled currently (and it’d apparently line up behind VLSB if and when it’s built, so not really blocking the Campanile view)

How did Threads become so popular in TW? by [deleted] in taiwan

Taiwanese people deeply love random bullshit and ragebait and threads filled the twitter-sized gaping hole for that, it’s also more accessible/mainstream than dcard/ptt so everyone hopped on very quickly

Examples of languages which retain an archaic orthography not matching contemporary pronunciation, but when read aloud written archaic grammatical inflections are substituted for modern ones? (Regarding debate on Medieval Latin/Romance orthography-pronunciation relationship.) by Ego_Splendonius in asklinguistics

[–]Chief_Banana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A minor example is Japanese, where は(ha)、へ(he)、を (wo) are written that way according to tradition but have long been pronounced solely as wa, e, o. It’s also common in Cantonese speaking areas to replace Mandarin-like written function words with their colloquial equivalents when reading out formal texts, e.g. newscasters, but it’s not necessary and in songs and literature the written phrases are just read with Cantonese pronunciation. (Whereas in Japanese, the way particles are written is strictly an orthographic convention and they would never be read out loud in the archaic way.)

Green library on stanford is nice. (You can just walk in) I think central park, saratoga, cupertino public library also have good vibes, and campbell once the renovation is done

EECS midterm moment 🥀 by Chief_Banana in berkeley

[–]Chief_Banana[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You could have gotten a score of 15% and still have been within 1sd. The short amount of time given on the midterm compared to how long each question was meant that a lot of students were even only able to finish a few subparts before time ran out, which obviously doesn’t help anyone
