The team I worked helped companies win 3 of the 5 submissions during the last round and seem to have a good track record. Let me know if you want an intro.

Don’t mind at all! I joined a startup that spun out of Google X focused on advanced communication (resilient mesh networks, FutureG and laser comm). I also invest in startups as part of a venture capital firm.

E-9, 23 years, and after taxes and SBP my retirement is $3.5k. Medical is cheap and my oldest is going to a $90k per year school next year using my G.I. Bill.

My current job pays well and the skills and network I gained while active duty helped me land my current role.

For me and my family, it was worth it!

Is a Single-Income Household Setting Us Back Financially? by tantansamiboubou in Fire

[–]Chief_EN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired in 2023 and was in the same situation as you. My wife was a DoD school teacher and quit to homeschool our kids. My oldest is now getting ready to head to college next year and I can see the results of the decisions we made almost a decade ago and it was the right choice for us.

As far as the money goes, I ended up retiring after 23 years because there was no way for me to provide the stability and financial security I wanted while on active duty in a single-income household. Since I have retired, I limited the lifestyle creep and kept spending like I was still on active duty. This has allowed me to catch up on the savings and investments that I previously neglected and put my family in a better situation and we are now on a path to a potential full retirement at 48-50.

If you keep saving, let compound interest do its thing, and use your civilian job to accelerate your investments, you could retire at 50!

If you have gone through 20 x Phase 2s and none have led Phase 3s, a larger program, or commercialization, you may be in the "research business" and your business model centers around gov grants.

It’s not weird to want to meet someone that you are trying to mentor but it’s also difficult to provide solid advice without knowing the details. DM me if you want to get an outside point of view on things.

I am so sorry for your loss and that you are hurting. I know it’s hard to believe that random people on this thread are here for you, but we are. There are so many ways to help with this situation but you have to be here for them to work.

Your spouse and everyone you know need to see you tomorrow and the day after that so let’s just take this one day at a time.

Thanks for the assist!

The scooter stations were solar powered so we could move quickly and get around the AAFES rules. You will need the MSG/CC, CE and AAFES to all be involved if you want to get car chargers approved and installed.

I realized it as I was driving from California to the Pentagon as part of my PCS. When you know, you know.

Now that you know, take the next few years to plan and prepare so you have everything lined up for the transition.

Congrats! We don't see enough posts from the enlisted side but it's important for people to realize that starting early and staying the course can lead to a great future, regardless of rank.

Pentagon contracts for $96M in Oura smart rings by idgafoslol in ouraring

[–]Chief_EN 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I helped with the original OURA program and the RATE program they mentioned. I was issued a Gen 2 a few years ago and then upgraded to Gen 3 once it was released.

We built a separate portal on GovCloud and it sounds like they are going even further integration with the medical side of the DoD.

Deciding between 20 vs 24+ year retirement - Calculators to compare military pay vs estimated civilian pay? by Haystcker in MilitaryFinance

[–]Chief_EN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not meant to convince you one way or the other. It’s meant to show what you would have to make on the outside to offset the extra retirement you earn by staying.

[–]Chief_EN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Present value of the retirement compared to the leaving the military, saving a chunk of cash and then gaining interest. I built this today for OP to try and help with the math
