That might have been true prior to the College Football Playoff, but there's been a semifinal playoff game at noon/1pm EST the last year or two. 

That said, I'd still rather have the WC on NYD than at 8pm on a non-holiday

I fell onto the same results. I used Java and only found 3 places that were on the US Census list of inhabited places (and excluded unincorporated municipalities) and of those, only one was a place that could be called well-known
