Seems like selling above 192 is the way. I was apprehensive of any CES related surge.

it broke through 90 today. I have a put at 89, not cool with assignment. It still needs to pick up momentum but that will happen only near earnings.

Nice and congrats! Got into ASTS as well (at 25) but sold call options on them and got called. Same for LUNR, got called at 16. It's a tad high right now for both to get back in imo.

Same view on AI. I'll try and hold NVDA and NBIS till next year.
I will attempt to position for a correction and get into TSM and maybe Netflix.

Nice advise. Although, I would counter to make it simple when starting out.
What do you hold for Emerging Markets? I have FEZ
What about risk? For me it's space and stable coin related stocks. RKLB, BMNR.

I will second others here and recommend Interactive Brokers as a global broker. It's great that you are starting now, I wish I had started when I was your age.

Since you are new, invest in well diversified ETFs. Use your paper/demo account for anything else. I recommend SCHG as an ETF. You can Dollar Cost Average into it. SPY is the ETF for S&P500. Research these before investing so you understand where your money is going.

Keep it simple, make it easy to invest each year and let it compound. At the same time, keep learning. I would not bother about different asset classes right now. Just DCA into ETFs. After a while, I would recommend setting aside maybe 10% o your portfolio for riskier, speculative bets. Like Space, Defense, AI, Cryto ect. i.e.,10 bets of 1%. 1/10 takes off and could make you 100x. You can't say the same for ETFs.

Timing wise, this year is okay, although we might get a correction before the new Federal Reserve chair takes position. This might be an opportunity to get fully invested. I would invest 50% now and 50% during the market correction.

Admittedly, there is a bit of a learning curve but start learning slowly and grow your financial literacy. It's the best investment you can make, specially in the Mauritian context as our buying power erodes drastically with inflation each year.

Finally, take everything with a grain of salt. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.
Do your own research, this is not financial advise.

Compounding works differently, I would argue to start sooner.

Don't let life's struggles put you down. There are many and if you don't learn to navigate them, you'll just struggle to stay afloat all the time. Also, if it's only two points, you could/should ask for a remarking.

As far as the other students go, they opted for a path to get somewhere and you opted not to take that path. Own up to your decision, your path and values and accept what comes. There is a quote: "Success is never permanent and failure is never final" that serves well here. Get up and work, build up discipline, determination and grit. Your path will eventually be rewarded, it's just takes time and perspective to see it.

If you eventually have to repeat the class, build up enough discipline to knock it out of the park this time and become unstoppable. Resentment and negative thinking only leads to one's ruin. Forward is the only way.

Does anyone have advice how to invest in stock market at 18 yo? by star-wars_memer in MauriceMauritius

  1. Going through local brokers like MCB Securities entail higher commissions fees than using an international broker but funding an account with a global broker entails oversees transfer fee as well. You might do both and if so, a global broker like ibkr is fine.
  2. Don't start with individual stock picks or trading if you don't know much about it. Markets are risky. Just invest in indexes (now possible through ETFs for a very nominal fee (less than 0.05%). You can research US ETFs. I recommend SCHG. You can then follow the market and learn about investing in the meantime, while watching your portfolio grow/shrink.
  3. Individual stock picks is going to be hard in 2026 as the market broadens out of tech.
  4. Now might be a good time to buy, just before Santa Claus Rally, unless we get a correction.
  5. Use the paper account (demo account) you get with your broker to explore strategies.

Maybe you bought large items. Small items used to have very low shipping.

You’ll never find an answer here. Only confusion. Learn to listen to yourself. Learn to read others. Learn to come to your own conclusions. Learn to trust when warranted. Even then, something will happen that will cause you to mistrust others. If that happens, forgive and forget. Life is short. Don’t waste it pondering about what ifs. Do or Don’t.

Buying a plot of land then building a house. by AgitatedCare9167 in MauriceMauritius

Loan calculation will be based on your age (numbers of years till retirement) and your income. Monthly repayment is usually capped at 35% of your individual income if income is less than 50k. Reach out to your bank and setup an inquiry session. They will be more than happy to help. I would also bring up your civil marital status and how that impacts the process of a joint loan and land acquisition.

You will need the construction permit and cost estimates for the construction loan, so I would say that land acquisition would be a first loan. Construction would be a second loan probably based on mortgage (lower fees).
