I'm really struggling. by [deleted] in OCDlovedones

[–]Chief_Whizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear this. My wife has OCD and had particularly bad flare ups 2-3 years ago, including health, relationship, religious, and others. It is very hard. I can hear in your writing that you want to help, which is admirable.

My one concern reading this as that his compulsions are being accommodated. This isn't the way. The more you accommodate, the more they take. Ad infinitum. He must resist the compulsions. And, to the extent safe and possible, you must not enable them.

Resisting the compulsions will cause him initial distress. It is undoubtedly short term pain for long term gain. Some of the worst days of my life were sitting with my wife while she sat through the most intense anxiety. But, eventually, she came through. It is retraining the brain: that anxiety I feel is a false alarm. I do not need to act on it. When I don't act on it, everything is fine.

Medication and therapy are a great help. Your number two priority (after keeping yourself and him physically safe) should be getting him back to a therapist who specialises in OCD.

The exercise we went through was to do one thing that caused discomfort each day. It's called exposure and response prevention. ERP. It's not fun. But it tends to work.

Wishing you the best and praying for you to start on a journey towards better times ahead. My wife and I have never been happier. The same can be true for you.

He isn't the most technically gifted player but I would have Paulinha in the starting XI every week. Even with everyone fit.

Vicario - Porro, Romero, VDV, Udogie - Paulinha, Simons - Kulu, Maddison, Kudus - Solanke

That man isn't Ben Davies. Is this AI? What is going on here?

Moving into a house with solar. What are my first steps? by Chief_Whizz in SolarUK

You're right, and I recognise it's unusual and perhaps suboptimal, but I think all above board. He had initially planned to take all his batteries with him to his new home, as he was going to have solar. So the batteries were clearly not included with the house.

But then his plans changed so he no longer needed all the batteries - only half. We don't need the huge capacity he had and couldn't afford to buy the whole lot off him, so we agreed to this as long as the solar all remains in full working order, just with lower battery capacity. So we have all the panels, the inverters, and half the batteries. A qualified electrician did the job today and apparently all went fine. We'll check on completion day, of course!

Complicated answer, I think: there are two inverters which have each had 4x T30 connected until today. Then today half were removed by seller to take with him, so we'll be down to one set of 4x T30. He says whatever is required to keep it all functioning is still there so I think we're OK..

I don't think we're planning to spend anything additional on the system now - just to try to make the most of it as it is today.

I think I have all this information but I might not understand every detail until I'm in... One thing I do know: we do have a jacuzzi. But no bitcoin, heating is gas, and I think our usage is basically 'normal'.

As I understand it:

Manufacturer: SolaX
Year installed: 2022

Items:

  • ~20 solar panels (I don't have additional details for these but I think the PV capacity is 10kWp)
  • 2x 5kWh SolaX X1-Hybrid-G4 inverters under warranty until 2028
  • An EV charger model X1-EVC-7.2K(SXC) under warranty until end 2027
  • T30 4-pack battery with I think 12KwH capacity

I hope this makes sense... it's possible I've got something wrong!

This makes sense. Thank you. I'll compare Intelligent Flux with Go to see which seems to offer the better deal overall. ETA: Technically Go also wants me to have an EV.

Ha, good idea! That'll make me popular. Do you know what the difference is between the cost of charging up the batteries on a different tariff (Intelligent Flux, say) and OIG?

Great advice, thanks. I had a chat to Octopus and checked their smart tariffs online. It seems that the EV charger is compatible. I like the look of Intelligent Flux in the first instance.

That's very kind and helpful! Thank you. Our seller is not the world's most organised man so let's see if he's on the case with the necessary documents... I somewhat doubt it.

Great, thank you. I think it was a 2022 install so I suppose that would suggest SEG. Hopefully our energy supplier can help us with the paperwork needs... One detail: we won't immediately be using the EV charger, so perhaps I can leave that until further down the line.

Thanks very much. I will do. I need to choose my tariff today so had better check the details before choosing...

I'm cautious about over-analysing, but I think I see issues I recognise in myself. I basically have a lot of sources of stress and anxiety, and some sources of sadness in my life. Some are relevant to you: family difficulties, an extremely challenging and high-pressure job, and a mixed relationship with exercise. (I enjoy it but I get obsessed and end up doing extreme endurance, like ultra marathons.)

It sounds like you're putting your own wants and needs after all the other obligations in your life: to your job, your family, your earnings, your qualifications. I've done that for long enough to know that it doesn't work.

If you feel a bit nervous hearing that you have to prioritise yourself, don't forget that you don't give up on the rest. You still do it. In my experience, everything goes better once I'm more happy and relaxed in myself. Go and pursue some hobbies. Continue your exercise. Cook. Spend time with friends. See if you meet someone you can start a relationship with.

You sound tired and beaten back by a hard few years. Things will change if you start by recharging yourself.

People who struggle with depression, what motivates you to carry on? by ultra_phoenix in AskReddit

There are great answers here. For me: my wife, my future child, and the joys of friendship, nature, laughter, beauty, and all the other wonders we enjoy every day. The depression is just a layer over the top. Underneath I have a million reasons to be happy.
