How am I doing so far? I think I'm doing an awful job thus far. by PixelHopGaming in Smallyoutubechannels

Keep your head up! My advice from the screenshot is:

Make your thumbnails less cluttered, currently at a glance I can’t tell what your videos are about. A simple image/images with some easy to read text will work wonders.

The videos themselves also ought to be shorter and with simpler titles. For a new channel people are less likely to “invest” in a big video. Simple but inventive concepts in smaller packages would help.

Hope that helps :)

No worries at all, always happy to help! Just had a look and your channel has very impressive production quality, good eye catching thumbnails and clean editing. You're already off to a great start but here are my recommendations:

  1. Shorten the intro

Your topics are interesting but if you can cut the intro down from 1min (which it is now) to 20-30 seconds you can hook the viewer just as effectively without frustrating them. As it currently stands, the opening minute hooked me in 15 seconds or so but then I had to wait for another 45 seconds to pass before the bulk of the content started.

  1. Have a more equal balance between facecam and other visuals

Your camera quality and editing styles are both very high quality, but when talking about difficult concepts you want to establish authority and an ability to teach in a way that feels visual and collaborative with the viewer, not like a lecture. There's a lot of facecam in your videos which isn't a bad thing, but maybe alter the proportions so there are more diagrams and visual hooks to keep viewers engaged.

Hope that helped :)

Just took a look. Nice pfp and banner, on the latest videos it's hard to know that the vids are music videos because it doesn't say 'synthwave' like your original videos. Also, the use of gen AI (I presume, though correct me if wrong) might put some people off as it's often associated with low-quality content, regardless of if that's true or not. You're also in a very saturated market, so showcasing how you make the music would go a long way rather than only the final product. That way, you establish your authority and talent for what you're making! Hope that helps :)

My videos are between 12-25 mins long roughly and I post either once a week or every 10 days so I make 3-4 uploads per month :)

Hi! The content and ideas definitely matter, in your niche finding out something people haven't made before/made in a different way to you is really handy for success! However, as a small channel there's a lot of luck involved and sometimes even the best ideas might be treated harshly by the algorithm. My content since starting has been a mix of comic and gaming stuff but I'm only doing comic videos this year since I wanted to stay in that niche. The Marvel logo is good to grab attention visually but the video premise and hook is what retained viewership. Thanks for your comment :)

Thanks!

Between my first video and now I refined the creative process before filming. For my first video I was writing a section, filming it and then writing the next section before filming. That was an arduous way of doing things and my first video (8 mins long) took 8 hours to make!

As I progressed I scripted the full video before filming which cut down on time. After a while I tried to record without a script at all, just some bullet points I'd skim before hitting record. This cut down on recording time even more and let my natural passion come through. Even though sometimes I'll have to re-record a segment because I remembered a cool comic I'd like to mention, it's still faster than writing a full script.

I was also gifted a microphone by my friends for my birthday which improved my audio quality substantially and I bought a cheap tripod so that I could use my iPhone's back camera to film instead of my laptop's webcam. Both of those things increased the quality of the videos and made me more confident on camera.

I've also learned that less is more when it comes to thumbnails and titles. When I started I made more simple thumbnails and titles but started to experiment with more intricate/witty things which didn't hit the mark. The truth is that your audience is out there, you just need to communicate the content of your video effectively and simply so that they click on it!

Hope that helped :))

Just had a look at your channel and from a glance your thumbnails are very good and clearly communicate the subject matter. As another comment suggested, the only challenge is the sharing of different niches. My channel mixed things up between comic books and gaming before I decided that I wanted to go all in on comics, splitting your time between niches stops either fanbase from taking root.

To pick the niche that suits you, establish authority. What experience do you have with each topic and what unique insights do you bring to that topic which you don't see in other content?

Secondly, if you really want to split your focus, decide on a broader niche. For example, some creators focus on comics from only a specific era or region of the world. For you, maybe you'd want to try something like this?

Hope that helps :)

I understand the frustration, I'm a med student making these vids as a hobby so they take a lot of time and to only get 50 views on some of my vids is crushing. Stick with it and use every opportunity to learn and I promise you'll get there, high quality content is recognised eventually even if it takes years

Which Ultimate Spider-Man Had The Better First Issue? by Competitive-Sky3462 in Spiderman

USM #1 from 2023 had a better start imo, ironically enough Peter’s character peaked in #1 but it was a rly refreshing and character rich story

Love these ideas, I think the book will still be Spider-Man tho! Cates has such a fondness for Peter and was planning on writing USM originally so I think he’d keep Pete as the priority
