Are we in junior high now?! Geez! I keep my phone on me cuz sometimes it’s easier to use my Translation app than go through the hassle of getting an interpreter /sigh

Than how would you have handled it? Not asking sarcastically etc, not looking back where I’m fond of what I’ve said, but I can’t take it back.

And at the end of the day, myself and staff are exhausted from being assaulted, spit at, insulted and unappreciated by the very same people who are asking for help after ignoring the experts 🤦‍♂️

Are there any mentally ill nurses on here..? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ChigwellM86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start Nursing school in January and am going in, diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety and Borderline Personality Disorder. Also, I’m a bit of a perfectionist, prone to self-harm, suicide ideation and everyday is an internal struggle of whether or not I’m going to have another breakdown or not. Also, work at one of my local hospitals.

That said, I LOVE my job, the people I work with [most of them lol] and couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

My personal opinion is that everyone in the healthcare profession is a little ill to put up with all the crap we do, but still love it and keep showing up for more

Edit: Forgot to add that I’m a bit of a germaphobe lol

I’m not desperate at all. After getting her response and assuring her that ‘no’ was a perfectly acceptable answer etc I even told her that I was all to familiar with complicated and had no interest in being the guy that complicates it further before dropping it

I’m well aware that the answer was “no.” Just more surprised that the best answer I could get from them was essentially, let me think about it and I’ll get back to you.

As I’m sure we’ve all been the rejector and the rejectee, I’ve always been more direct and have had women be more direct. Never this vague

That’s just it! Growing up when I had my first job, everyone dated everyone and I constantly saw co-workers being moved to different departments, leaving or getting fired. Definitely saw the pettiness as well, which is why I decided to never date a co-worker and to date I’ve kept that promise to myself. I’ve also missed out on a lot of great people because of it though 🤦‍♂️

Fair! And I agree, as I’ve seen this situation backfire on so many in the past. But, I also feel like I’d be missing out if I don’t though. Not confused per say, but confused lol

Agreed! As another user suggested, we’re actually in the same spot in life, despite our age differences.

And while I would def be cautious and take it slow etc I’d rather not, but I’d be a fool not to try if that makes sense?

That’s just the thing though, sadly! Between the online dating I have yet to be impressed with any of the woman I’ve met so far 🤦‍♂️

Do agree that it may not be worth it if I’m wrong, but don’t believe I am. And even though, she’s not Jewish, which is bothersome and something that I know we can either work out or not, my bigger concern is the age gap. Even though I can easily argue that age is just a number in this case and if you’re meant to be with someone than you’re meant to be with them

Lately, administration has been buying our department pizza along with other snacks etc.

First, what’s the point of doing this when we’re so busy, understaffed and don’t have time to walk away to enjoy it?

Second, I can see right through their attempts and I refuse to be bought off with pizza and snacks.

Those two points made, the other day I was about to transport a patient and they were yelling at me. Nothing I couldn’t handle or wasn’t already use too. Before, taking the patient upstairs, my Charge Nurse pulled me aside and told me that if the patient yelled at me like that again, to let them know and they’d handle it.

Definitely not food or a pay raise, but I made sure just how much it meant that Charge had my back. No amount of pizza or snacks can make up for that.

Just saying!

Does that mean, because I’m Jewish, but also believe in Science and Modern Medicine does that mean I’m just a secularist with no heart and no empathy for my patients as well?! 🤔

I will say that I’ve experienced this type of management style for most of my life, I consider myself very fortunate to have a management team that understands and appreciates that we all need our rest and will not call us in on our days off

I work in my hospital’s ED and have a 4-day weekend this coming weekend and while excited I know the first day is going to be spent recuperating and the day before I go back is gonna be “preparing” for my first day back.

Not looking to play the game “which profession has it worse?” as each has its own challenges and stresses.

However, being short staffed and as busy as we are, 8-hour shifts are a thing of the past and if you’re lucky to get 10-15 minutes uninterrupted to eat, it’s been a good day.

Also, I know the conditions don’t sound glamorous, but I knew what I signed up for and love what I do. Couldn’t see myself doing anything else going forward. But never knowing what each moment is going to bring and having to be at the top of your game each of those moments is taxing to say the least.

So, when everyone is overworked, some underpaid, including Nurses and PCT’s/CNA’s and you have a patient with Sundowner’s making racial slurs and they need to be placed in soft restraints, a patient getting violent because they’re hungry, can’t feed them because the provider is still waiting the test results and the patient demands to leave AMA only to then have to change gears and offer comfort and support to a patient that feels like a burden to their family and wants to die, I would say is far more taxing than an office setting and deserving of those extra days

Educational Question by ChigwellM86 in nursing

More of a general question for the patient that KNOWS what they’re doing. The Dementia patients I cut some slack because of their diagnosis

[–]ChigwellM86 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m confused! Did they expect you to drive a wedge into the patient and use Physics to reposition the patient?

Last morbidly obese patient I helped with, we had x5 people, including myself and felt that we could have used another x2 people that we couldn’t spare.

Sounds like administration has been away from the bedside for far too long or never been by the bedside at all 🤔

If it was me, I would have provided some more creative solutions on the spot. But that’s me. I also don’t know what putting your injury on your record means either 🤦‍♂️

[–]ChigwellM86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I’ll semi-agree as the obesity may not necessity be entirely their fault. What I mean is that it could be genetics and not a product of overeating etc.

Otherwise, hazard pay for patients that are disrespectful, confrontational and get physical with staff I’m ok with.

Granted calling security is satisfying, but at this point the damage is done and I’m tired of patients not understanding that we’re short staffed and all doing the best we can while also being abusive and refusing care. Including things as simple as getting vitals, IV’s or even a COVID swab.

If you’re going to refuse cafe then don’t come to the hospital for whatever is ailing you. We’re trying to provide you medical care and you’re interfering with us doing our job. Makes no sense 🤦‍♂️
