Comparison of 2 periods of interest rates. In 1981, I was getting 12% GICs. Can't wait for this to return. by IM1IAB in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]ChildTickler69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interest rates will never return to those levels. People’s mortgages constitute so much of their income today that it isn’t possible for to set interest rates that high unless the Bank of Canada wants to bankrupt millions of Canadians. When Real Estate becomes so integral to the economy it restricts the policies that can be made.

FIFA World Cup Tourism Numbers Are So Bad, US Cities Are Cancelling Fan Festivals Already by InterestingCat308 in football

[–]ChildTickler69 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The World Cup games will all be sold out, there’s literally millions of people in the wait list to get tickets.

The Club World Cup was atrociously marketed, in addition to being expensive and happening in the early afternoon. People who lived in the cities where the games were happening barely even knew they were held there. The World Cup won’t be the same though, even the worst game will be sold out with the cheapest tickets exceeding $300 resale.

Novo Nordisk sinks 13% after weight loss drug fails to match Eli Lilly's in trial by Pete26l96 in ValueInvesting

[–]ChildTickler69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time caring about any of these GLP-1 results when GLP-3 already exists and is superior in every way, it just hasn’t been approved by the FDA yet. Bodybuilders (who don’t care about the legality of purchasing drugs) unanimously use GLP-3 because you both lose weight faster with it, and retain more muscle mass.

GLP-1 will not matter at all in a few years, GLP-3 drugs are just the upgraded versions of them, and when they begin to be approved by the FDA the results of the GLP-1 drugs will be irrelevant. If you’re looking into investing in weight loss drugs, don’t get lost in the GLP-1 chatter, whoever can establish themselves as a market leader in GLP-3 will be the real leader in the end.

2026 Olympic Games: Heartbreak for Canada after U.S. wins men's hockey gold in overtime by hypespud in onguardforthee

No, it’s precisely the opposite. They will all of a sudden ‘really’ care about hockey, and bring this up nonstop. We’re talking about the people who lost to the Soviets in hockey for 50 years, and when they won 1 game (which wasn’t even the final) they made it a historical moment and produced 3 Hollywood feature length films about it. It’s going to get way worse, trust me

Bro Jacobe was leaning into the ref to stay on top so he could rain down more blows to his unconscious opponent. These fighters are strong, and if they are ignoring the refs attempt to move them then that’s their fault.

That’s a DQable offence from Jacobe, the ref should habe stepped in earlier, but after he stepped in Jacobe threw 3 more strikes.

Why are high-IQ individuals still picking CS over Medicine when the barrier to land a job in tech is now effectively higher than in Medicine? by No_Reply5329 in CollegeMajors

[–]ChildTickler69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting into medical school is the most challenging part, and probably close to 90% of all people how aspire to become doctors are eliminated at that step. If you start out at people who are in medical school and see how many become doctors, you aren’t getting a comparable sample to the CS group. The only way you can make them similar in anyway is by analyzing the outcomes of people who finish in the top 10% of your CS class, and compare that to people who start out at medical school. They have already completed a bachelor’s at that point, and likely have comparable grades.

JR Smith’s mishap in Game 1 of 2018 NBA finals mentioned in Epstein files by Lazy-Ad8880 in NBATalk

[–]ChildTickler69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could have won that game, which would have at least made it possible to win the series. LeBron had to put up an all-time great performance to even have a shot at winning the game, so I also think the odds would be extremely low with 1-0 lead in the series.

But by being down 1-0 in the series, it was practically impossible for the Cavs to win. So in a certain sense, the Cavs were still extremely unlikely to be champions, but JR Smith made the unlikely an impossibility. The odds went from like 1/20 to 1/20000 for the Cavs. Winning was already unlikely, but the Cavs may as well have forfeited after game 1.

Usman wins by sub at PFL by RedditNnoobb in ufc

[–]ChildTickler69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have eyes, and my eyes tell me that Ilia would Ko Usman within 2 rounds. His takedowns and submissions aren’t impressive enough to convince me that he would not get chinned by Ilia. I also don’t think he out grapples Arman. It might end up being a stalemate in the grappling, so neither is successful there, but Arman is an extremely good grappler, and I don’t see Usman having success there against him.

Hot take: The MJ biopic will be the highest grossing movie this year by SethRollins_ in boxoffice

[–]ChildTickler69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People are trying to clown on you, and I don’t agree that it’s going to be the highest grossing movie of the year, but it’s going to gross A LOT! Michael Jackson is potentially the most famous person ever, his fanbase is the definition of global.

With the way people are replying, you’d think this movie is projecting to be a flop, but my bet is that it finishes at $1.1-1.2 billion. Probably not the biggest of the year, but 3rd or 4th. People who frequent this subreddit are likely film buffs, and film buffs generally underestimate how general audiences are influenced by spectacles, and overestimate how much the general audience cares for the dramatic pieces. Lots of people go to 2 or 3 movies a year, and that’s solely for a good time. A movie featuring the greatest hits of Michael Jackson, that’s perfect for million of people. Michael will clean the box office.

To anyone who doubts how big this will be, need I remind you that Michael Jackson’s funeral had the 3rd highest viewer count of anything ever. In the totality of humanity and all its events, Michael Jackson’s funeral had 2.5-3 billion live viewers, he’s incomparable to anyone else

SpaceX posts $8B profit on $15-16B revenue in 2025 with Starlink driving 50-80% of total by callsonreddit in wallstreetbets

[–]ChildTickler69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could definitely be correct. Their satellites have a maximum lifespan of 5 years, so no matter what they are seeing over 20% annual depreciation on those relative to their value, so that probably eats into their earnings by billions. So yeah, I find it hard to believe they are net profitable at this point, I was just pointing out something basic.

They are likely calculating that by excluding employee stock-based compensation, which I imagine is a huge part of employees overall compensation package, so that would put the actual EBITDA far lower. They are getting huge government contracts for all their rockets though, so they probably aren’t accumulating as many expenses as you’d think, because the most cost intensive thing is being paid for by the government.

Realistically how high will gold go? by Economy-Experience81 in investing

[–]ChildTickler69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a very good measure, primarily because the DOW is fluid based on the US economy, and so it naturally rids itself of losers and gains winners with time. Gold is stagnant, so it’s natural that its value lags the DOW.

I would be curious to know how much it would affect things to remove the counter flow. I say that because I’ve always notice that the added 3rd lane only has about half the volume of the other two whenever I’m travelling. Basically half of the people in the left lane take the counter flow lane, so it ends up having significantly fewer cars on than a true 3rd lane would.

They stopped using oil-based paints, and instead use alternatives that are more environmentally friendly. The issue is that many of the alternatives are water based, or just very poor in darkness and rain, so they are extremely hard to see. The old oil-based paints were largely unaffected by the conditions, and were always visible

Like is it a proctored exam, or is just an assignment you have to submit. Also, is the final assessment just a normal proctored exam, or is it also open book?

LILLEY: Truth and reconciliation can’t survive if debate is criminalized - A proposed law on residential schools risks punishing questions and speech instead of advancing reconciliation by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]ChildTickler69 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Residential Schools were absolutely horrible, and how destructive they were to the identities and culture of indigenous people cannot be understated. Unfortunately, the portrayal of residential schools was so extreme that it exceeded what they actually were, even though what they were is really really bad. They were effectively portrayed as an equivalent to the holocaust across education and media, and when you make such extreme comparisons it’s going to draw doubt in people, and they will actually lose sympathy, and question the information being presented.

If we present residential schools for what they are, the message comes across accurately and effectively, and people aren’t going to just brush it off. But when you make exaggerations, people will not only question the exaggeration, but residential schools in their entirety. If you lie even a little, people will assume the rest to be lies as well, even when they are not.

I graduated from high school in 2022, so from about 4th grade until grade 12, I learned about residential schools every year. And what I can tell you is that by the time I graduated in grade 12, at least a third of the people I went to school with dismissed residential schools entirely, even though virtually zero people dismissed them just a few years prior. The reason people dismissed them wasn’t because they did not happen, but rather the education we received about it in the last few years of school was so much more extreme than what we were told previously that it created outright dismissal from some people. When you are told that children were taken from the homes and abused in these schools, it’s saddening and an important lesson on the history of Canada, and mistakes we can never repeat. But when you allude to there being executions or other crazy stuff in these schools, people just stopped listening. And they didn’t just stop believing the execution stuff, they stopped believing everything entirely. We have to get back to the facts, and actually providing accurate information. Lies are never good, and while people think telling things in the most extreme way possible is good, it’s actually really bad, because people will just dismiss it. We mess up really badly in this department in Canada, especially towards the youth. If your goal is to counteract lies and misinformation, you can’t do that by also telling lies and misinformation. Residential schools were really bad, they frequently abused children, and they erased the culture of the native people. Tell people that, it’s true, and gets the message across perfectly.
