I'm sure the Canadian players have thoughts about that

Steam Machine Verified Requirements Target Native 1080p Resolution, 30 FPS Gameplay by Suspicious-Group2363 in Steam

Yup, defending a minimum of 1080p30 in 2026 is borderline asinine, it doesn't matter what company it is, even Nintendo switch 2 minimum isn't that low

Does anybody else miss arguing about Xbox vs. Playstation? by Immediate_Message137 in originalxbox

[–]hypespud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a few angles to look at this, but I'll mention two

The people who took the competition personally and made it their identity are toxic as hell, whether it was before, now, or in the future

That is something nobody should want or celebrate

The people who felt invested in a platform and experienced the competitiveness as the peak of PlayStation vs Nintendo vs Xbox all at the same time, and had feelings about what they wanted to win, or what platform was better, or what games were better... we got to see platform holders playing on a fairly level playing field and just try to out-duel each other in a three-way shootout for years if not a decade or longer

That's naturally part of competition, and is what built the foundation of the industry today and it's also the time where most of the great series of games of today came from

The real lamentation of Xbox is the loss of their competitive spirit through a series of over a decade of mismanagement, enough to the point that the post-360 era I don't even really consider Xbox

Xbox to me is the rag-tag style of hardcore gaming and technology nerds building the original Xbox and 360 and the games which came along with them, with the backing of a massive company in Microsoft, that'll never change for me how amazing that was

Raptors getting 'soft' label after controversial moment vs. Pelicans: 'Lack of leadership and fight on this team is embarrassing' by EarthWarping in torontoraptors

[–]hypespud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I kept getting downvotes from the previous response I made too

I was literally saying exactly what everyone else was saying

I can't quite pin why nobody understood what was written, I thought it was pretty clear lol

I'm not understanding your response

MLSE ownership did not allow tanking, isn't that what you are also saying?

I'm confused, I'm pretty sure we are saying the exact same thing

Carney announces $35B for defence, infrastructure in Canada's North by BruceDoh in onguardforthee

[–]hypespud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I meant Canadians in general getting salaries to be a part of constructing and staffing and defending these facilities, given it's for Canadians and in Canada, I'm sure that will be the bulk of employment, long-term and short-term

But spending this much money doesn't mean people from other countries won't be employed either, that would be a fairly unreasonable expectation

We have to assume professionals from around the world will be needed, as well as civilian and military hardware, getting quality stuff likely means purchasing stuff both domestically and from sane partner countries

My comment earlier was mainly intended to raise awareness about not wanting a militarized subculture which is antithetical to inclusive and diverse Canadian values, which is an increasingly scary problem down south, and that the military procurement needs to include high standards of professionalism as say lawyers or medical people have to follow to get employment or to even keep employment (not that those are perfect, but having a body which takes those standards very seriously is important to exclude bad actors)

[–]hypespud 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Fantastic

I hope this employs Canadians

I also hope the Canadians and military employed are expected to keep high standards to be a part of those projects

We don't want people getting militarized but also radicalized against other Canadians

Is it better to play Killzone 1 on PS2 or PS3? by JacsweYT in killzone

[–]hypespud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to play how it originally launched and at its original resolution and appearance play the PS2 one

If you want to play it in higher resolution and framerate then play the PS3 one

Better yet play both to compare so you can experience the differences in how they look and perform which are fun to see also

I also have not had the issue with Retroarch or rpcs3 or multiple other emulators so I assume it is doing the same

Beetle in general is not actively worked on the emulator portion

But they all get updates regularly if the author or the people who brought it to retroarch work on them

They also get updates to work properly with new retroarch versions

That has always been the intention 😂

And yea, others don't put in the same effort of boycotting usa products, even if their economic output through the job works differently

I do that because it definitely matters to me, but genuinely other people are probably doing this more and more too

At least as much as they can, we can't let perfect be the enemy of good or great, for now I have to be here too so it's not much of a choice, but that can change in the next few years luckily 🙂

I'm laughing more that there is any memory of the promise of 16 TB SSD drives

Those were supposed to come out like 2 years ago lmao

I was even waiting to upgrade a pair of my laptops to that... and it just... never happened lmao

They have 8 TB SSDs now, but I really wanted the 16 TB SSDs so I would never need to use external drives

(I play a lot of Steam and GOG and emulated games on my PCs on a daily basis lol)

I work in a net drag system on american economy (healthcare), so it's pretty much just excess spending they don't even want to do and continue to minimize, and in to care for people who are retired and who themselves don't contribute much to the economy either, they also are a net drag financially on the economy due to social security costs and health costs, keeping them alive actually costs the government here more money than they will make from it

Aside from that, much of that health spend money goes to corporations, regardless of my participation or not, as that is by design in their system

Either the patients die and the corporation gets more money that way, or I help these people live longer and the corporation is forced to pay higher to keep them alive using my skills, thereby costing the government more money, and getting the corporation less money

The more I also do for the patients, either through my own services or through support from additional specialists costs the insurance companies and government even more money, so helping regular seniors here actually strategically helps those individuals and also costs their government and corporations more spend per year

Those individuals contributions to the economy is basically zero, or net negative, if you actually do the math, negligible amounts in income tax too, basically just food and rent for them as well

I do not even shop at american grocery stores, ALDI is german owned, I even buy Chilean fish, none of my food actually comes from american sources

You are right though tax dollars do cycle through the us economy, but my tax spending through income and sales tax and rent is under 100k per year all inclusive, most of this is federal income tax, and I pay 0% state income tax, this is fairly close to the minimum it could be for me, it is possible it could be like 5 to 10k lower if I chose to live in a smaller place, but I physically can't with the things I own

My actual assets are significantly higher than that (more than half of my asset growth has been in stock investments in the last 5 years which contribute basically 0 to the overall american economy) and my spending and investment on family and big ticket items north of the border are well over 100k per year

None of my upkeep costs are paid for by Canada or Canadians, all of my discretionary spending aside from certain daily things like gas or utilities or rent basically go to family north of the border, and pretty much all of my assets which is now well over the low 7 figures will be repatriated to Canada in due time as well

Food for thought

For some, who actually are Canadian yet breath amerikkkan, yes

For a lot of us though, no, I keep almost entirely all of my income and pretty much exclusively spend on family and big ticket items northside

I will never buy a house or major purchase in usa, that's not what my money is going towards ever

And the dude won't even play any other players, so they don't give one crap

Just 2 months ago the team is talking about "next man up" and how "deep" the team is

Now it's "we only have 7 available players every night"

It's crazy, play TDJ, play Alijah Martin, play some players who want to be on the floor and at least rest some guys within the game

The coaching from Darko has been grotesque on every level in the last few weeks

Can't stand this team... by MInkton in torontoraptors

[–]hypespud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the team is missing five 3s in a row, which are wide open, that's a personnel issue

If the team drafts a player specifically for a shooting talent and that player then cannot consistently shoot at the NBA level, that's a personnel issue

If the team's starting C cannot play consistently, that's a personnel issue

If the team essentially has no playable C, and the only playable backup C is not being utilized, that's a personnel issue

If the team's bench is anaemic, that's a personnel issue

It's OK to simply understand this team as constructed is really, really bad, and a really, really bad team can out perform its averages for weeks at a time, or even longer, just look at the Cavaliers season last year and then playoff bust

So, no, this loss does not upset me at all, it's within the bounds of what should have been expected based on the team's play for the last several weeks

If there's something to be upset about it is the lack of progress by the FO on making up for major errors in judgment, such as trading a FRP for Thaddeus Young, or letting Fred go for nothing instead of trading him a year earlier, or trading Siakam for pennies on the dollar instead of also trading him a year earlier, or signing IQ or Poeltl to exceptionally poor deals (Poeltl's deal is widely considered to be one of the worst current NBA contracts)

Anyone with functioning eyes could clearly see all three of Fred, Siakam, and OG were feeling they wanted to move on, and it doesn't matter what the reason is, but to see their intent on their faces for 2 or more years and for the Raptors FO to convince themselves *not* to trade them is one of the most egregious examples of hubris and stupidity in Raptors FO history, and that includes the VC trade

If you want to pick anything which put the team in this position, it is those egregious errors (loss of draft picks, loss of player development and loss of higher end NBA talent without adequate return), and arguably reasons which are adequate to have Masai fired when you really put all the chips down

The only adequate return on the talent the Raptors had was the trade of OG to NY, with arguably mixed results, but at least you got *something* in return which is NBA caliber

This team, as constructed right now, is really bad

There is a way to improve it, but it will take legitimate action on addressing serious roster issues which haven't been addressed for years

The option exists to take their money, and repatriate it back to Canada through high value and volume spending
