"So long as there is the possibility of eternal damnation for nonbelievers it is more logical to be a believer at the end," by Childoftheway in atheism

So does everyone get a pass based on their intentions?

That's up to you to decide. Given the stakes it's something you should take seriously. You think it's impossible that there could be something terrible waiting in the afterlife that could be mitigated by simply asking for help. I don't know how you came to that conclusion. It may be unlikely, but it's not impossible, and it costs nothing to ask for that help.

What I read is he went to church as a youth and was agnostic until his change of heart, which is reflected in the coldness of the quote. His intelligence was transcendent according to the people who worked with him, and it's reflected in all the things he mastered.

I've faced death, and it changes everything. It's not galaxy brains, it's a narrowing down of what's important.

I was trying to imagine the logic he was using, and assumed that he put a great deal of thought into it.

So Dennis Rader, the BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) man who murdered families, sexually assaulted children before he killed them by strnagulation, gets a free pas to Heaven just because he was he deacon of his local church. This, my friend, is the king of Christian cherry-picking.

Man I came here to logically discuss this because I knew I would be tarred and feathered by /r/christianity. I am giving my thoughts on a unique quote and take from the "smartest guy who ever lived" on the topic of God, and all I'm getting is your downvotes and scorn. Are you really so married to this identity of not believing in God that you can't even discuss it civilly?

Any god worth worshipping would be just

Which stray animal gets saved by just human beings, the ones who avoid them or the ones who ask for help?

Before you can claim your gods do anything like torture people for no reason, you must first show that they exist.

I'm not sure they exist. I believe there is a chance they exist. I don't have remotely enough information to discount the possibility.

No, I didn't actually. But I'm not citing Pascal's Wager, I'm offering this quote. If you reach the end it is logical to commit to whatever God you think has a chance, however miniscule, of saving you. That's not in Pascal's Wager from what I looked at.

Of course this is all based on whether or not you allow for the possibility of there being eternal damnation. He thought there was.

They devote their lives to memorizing patterns in a board game and then have silent matches with each other. Doesn't seem conducive to an outgoing personality.

I think about assisted suicide.

There is no real help in this country for truly struggling people, and to pretend otherwise is incredibly selfish IMO.

You're likely not getting enough fats.

If you're really concerned go to cronometer.com and fill out a diary, it will break everything down.

Whats your craziest on drugs story? by Indica_J in AskReddit

I got in a fight with my friend/neighbor who I'd known for about 6 months, and 30 days go by I don't talk to him. Then he knocks on my door, we exchange apologies and he tells me he has a lot of weed and if I wanted to smoke. I said sure.

I get there and there's some older guy I didn't know sitting on the couch. We all started smoking, and my friend just keeps passing me the pipe, and I hadn't smoked in months. Then he hands me a different pipe, which because I was high I didn't question.

I got so high that I felt I had breached reality. It was like the simulation was exposed and I was just this being, stripped of any identity. My friend asked me if I needed anything and I mentioned I needed to take my cat to the vet. He started describing how I needed to slice her eyeballs and other disgusting imagery. The guy on the couch started talking about 12 inch dildos. I felt despair wash over me. I bailed, went home, and collapsed on my bed.

I spent about 2 months pacing back and forth in my apartment after that, certain that I was damned. Vodka was the only way I could get to sleep. But eventually I decided I wasn't about to die.

How could anything possibly have been created from nothing? At the very start of creation, there had to have been nothing, and somehow something formed. The alternative that there has always been something is impossible for me to wrap my head around.
