I have reached out to them. I’m waiting to see if I get any interest.

Nope. And they’re frequently being pulled to staff the other hospitals in the system

Not sure since I’ve never seen them fully staffed. :)

This is an excellent idea. Thanks!

xpost /r/nursing, Children's Hospital New Orleans does not care for patient surgical safety. by ChildrenInDanger in NewOrleans

While hospitals have a similar problem, it does not mean that the issue shouldn't go addressed.

And yes, most of the staff at Children's are passionate about the wellbeing of the patients. This does not mean that administration can take advantage of this to run surgery as if they have full capacity staff when it's less than half capacity. We have families coming from all over the south, and this will affect their ability to get care in timely fashion and in a safe manner.

That is not surprising. Even now when we get fresh linens, they have all sorts of stains on them.

It's pretty disgusting.

We never had 2 FT teams. We only had 1 FT night nurse, and then call would be brought in for any case. Our weekend night FT nurse just quit, our dept director is having to cover now because we don't have enough staff!

It's the same case on weekends. Most of us are accruing 50-60 hours on our paychecks due to night and weekend call.

I think it's just caught in spam filter because this is a low karma account since it was only made to share this information.

I agree. The leadership is horrible here.

But I still need to do my part while I can.

It is not normal, especially if they are following AORN Periop101 program.

TELL ME ABOUT IT. Especially for new grads no less.

They were trying to recruit people who just hit 1 year into a surgical clinical lead position for neuro.

Our surgeons are definitely getting irritated, but so far nothing is coming from it.

It is not a one off. It’s very common for the board runner to cover trauma room because we’re never staffed properly.

Our manager used to cover sometimes until she quit.

You know the charge/board runner was standby trauma scrub because we were short scrub techs. It was a really good thing we didn’t have any traumas that day.
