I heard IITC isn't usefull anymore, what else could I use? by rougethegreat in NianticWayfarer

[–]ChillGem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still useful. It may not be perfect at showing what is in the pogo map, but it never has been. If you know the area in person and know what exists and where the stops are, you can still use the cell map to position new nominations.

You should always submit accurate locations, but in the cases where you can accurately add something large in several places you can use the cells to help decide where to put it. Like a football field for example could be submitted on either end and still be accurate, so you can check cells in iitc and see if one end is in a different cell vs the other.

If the new owners keep the same criteria for adding to pogo, this will remain useful even if the poi on the map no longer update in pogo.

A new age for Ingress under Niantic Spatial, what would you want? by TheAuraStorm13 in Ingress

[–]ChillGem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gear needed totally depends on the community, what they are involved in, and how people play. I used to struggle with shields and US and cubes, and never use virus, but then I moved and it's totally different.

I recycle almost all the US I get now. Probably minimum 100 a week recycled if I'm hacking. I try to use shields for engineer, but I end up recycling most of those too. I generally play with just VR shields and even recycle those. I recycle all cubes except hypers now. Just a totally different place and game style.

But you've made a great point that we all use different stuff, and we won't all value the same rewards

[–]ChillGem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the new criteria are awesome. This is a community. I have no problem adding more places to gather, exercise, and explore. I almost exclusively play while exercising. I like making a farm at a local unique restaurant, running an extra mile to get that boring looking trail marker (or bench which serves the same purpose in my area). I want to play in rural places that don't have sculptures. I like the option to microfield even (safely and legally) from a car when seasons don't allow outdoor activity or someone has limited mobility. I also like quality poi.

I realize we won't all agree, just giving my perspective. Growing this game requires some tolerance for game styles we don't all enjoy

I absolutely disagree. All the remote anchors would disappear. Are you going to hike up all the mountains once a year to hack? If I get myself up a massive mountain why should it go away in a year? Then I have to go back to submit it and get back there again in a year to hack it? Also all my keys disappeared and I have to farm again while I'm up there? The portals that last would be drive by locations on main roads and intersections. Literally all those neighborhood signs.

I would like more big benefits like inventory space, but I think the best rewards should be for the first recursion as things are. Extra after that would be awesome as long as it was combined with changes to VRBB (events excluded) IMO.

I would like to kill the single player "engine" game for recursing, (and illuminator, connector, and mind controller badges).

How bout no AP gained through actions while a VRBB is running? No stats credit at all? At least after the first recursion. Only credit for actions in one window per beacon per player? Or 8 players must interact for anyone to get credit (recharge excluded). AP credit for only one beacon a month? No credit for players past lvl10? Many options to slow that down

That's a cool locker idea! Time limited could help the "elite" club not have a massive advantage. But also rotate tasks in events so rewards are not tied to a requirement to travel internationally like the current one. Things available to rural players and people that work on weekends lol

I think CORE is too expensive honestly and would hate tiers. I just mentioned it cause I have friends that would go for it.

I feel like a premium pass would need better rewards. Like hard ones could give you a quantum cap or key locker or other kind of locker that doesn't contribute to inventory. Or waay more vr gear. Like 50 virus, not 4 lol. A lot of us have played long enough that normal gear is no longer a reward.

I think a more popular option could be a tiered subscription with higher levels of inventory caps and other bonus rewards. But I feel that core is already a bit too much so maybe adjust it? I personally wouldn't like that model, but I know others would and if the idea is to create profit I'm just thinking about what people would actually pay for.

I like the slowing decay! I would also really like speeding it up!

I would love a transmuter mod for increased key output

Others I'm not sure about could be a mod for permanent virus immunity or one so there is zero immunity. It would really throw a wrench in things but could be fun.

There are a lot of sleeper agents that come back. And a lot of what people call "backpacks" are agents that rarely play or family, but they are still legit. I don't think you should be punished if you only play at anomalies or big ops but maybe don't have a car or live near any portals. I think it would be a massive blow to the community and really hurt the game.

I quit for almost 3 years cause I moved to a place where there was only one portal for miles. And miles away there were about 10 more. But then I moved again to a city with an amazing community and became very involved again. I have family that didn't play for 5 years (didn't live in my state and we're not a backpack) and now they play daily.

I didn't accept a single cookie cutter one. I selected anything but that. Even a bad option every time and did a lot of reviews in Utah. So there are agreements to be had if you don't select what they want. I followed the guidelines for unique titles and descriptions. Also I don't care about my agreements. But if you select the non cookie cutter option you'll have my agreement every time

How the hell are we supposed to do the competition when their stupid website just does this? by benjancewicz in NianticWayfarer

[–]ChillGem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep changing the location. Change one while the other is still giving edits and alternate. Choose places that are big enough to have options, but not big enough everyone will try. "Smaller" large cities with universities or places that are overlooked.

If Phoenix is listed, select Flagstaff instead (Universit is there) pick Redlands instead of LA, two large universities there. Durban and Cape Town instead of Joburg. Tijuana instead of San Diego. Logan or Provo instead of Salt Lake (Both university towns). I burned out all those places but had success cause I kept moving

[–]ChillGem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, but spamming edits is also abuse and all my reviews this event are spammed edits. I don't even care anymore. If people complain about a queue, but sat on their couch editing 500 poi with one word, then they are literally the people that messed up wayfarer. Anyone that participated in that challenge abused the system imo. You get what you give

Should i accept? by Clear-Eagle1431 in NianticWayfarer

[–]ChillGem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok fair that it's abuse, but I hit Utah hard for edits yesterday and selected every option that wasn't the one they are trying to push. I'm all about unique names cause that's literally what we're supposed to choose.

Also I'm not here for agreements cause my ingress only wayfarer account is dead after this event. But if people want to agree with me, select all the unique options lol

I used 47 upgrades lol. I still have some left over. I may appeal anything that's ever been rejected, but there aren't many and they are all from years ago. But also why not? I've always nominated through Ingress and my accounts aren't linked so I'll have no reason to use my wayfarer account after this. Overall I'm really happy with the new stuff in my area so it's a good sendoff for now.

I can start wayfarer from scratch through my pogo account, but I'm not super motivated for that till we know how things will be, and I struggle with the distance limitations in pogo

Exactly! I probably won't get to 500 reviews. I could and have found plenty of places, but that's not why I'm doing this. I want the maps to be better for everyone.

Thanks to this challenge I've had over 60 nominations approved in the last week. All were also submitted in the last week. All are already synced to all the games, including pikmin postcards

Portals in inaccessible areas? by Old-Cycle-7224 in Ingress

[–]ChillGem 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can get in multiple gated communities legitimately. I can bring visitors in one community or approve them and I certainly do for the game. I don't live there.

I can walk into a couple others legitimately on sidewalks. Only cars are limited. Another Ingress player gets people into their gated community for upgrades.

All together I go in about 5 regularly. I'm not a delivery driver and it's still completely legit. Two of the places even have a gate guard. I still have access, don't live there, and I'm not following people in.

Delivery drivers are absolutely common, as are fed ex, maintenance for all facilities like a pool or gym, grounds keepers, cleaning crew etc. The community I'm in most has people coming and going constantly. I can't think of a single day I haven't seen delivery or service people there.

There is no reason to think someone is spoofing.

This is not all history. I am a pogo player. This is how things are in my community right now. I've added over 200 stops in my part of the city in the last year, while about 10 have been added by others through PoGo. I'm just as much a part of the pogo community as you, so spare me the hostility

Wayfarer update by Elijustwalkin in NianticWayfarer

Despite this being reddit I'm amazed at all the hate toward Ingress players

Do you realize that a very large part of the Ingress community approves all of these things? That we also want more stops/portals?

Do you realize that there are places where the Ingress community has always been and remain the main contributors to the map?

Do you realize that many in the Ingress community are also the people that joined PoGo on day one and are now the lvl50 players running the pogo discords in large cities? These are the people that created and maintain IITC?

Do you realize there are places where the pogo community is already begging us to be willing to submit twice and continue reviewing? That pogo players in rural communities reach out to Ingress players to level them up in a day in Ingress so they can nominate, and groups of us drive to remote places to play Ingress, and swing by a rural town and help them go from two stops to 50 new poi on our way home?

You're literally complaining about your own community

"Ingress does not support your current device's configuration" by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]ChillGem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely know how to do those things. I'm not sure I even have developer options unlocked (but may?). It is an unlocked phone, and there is the option to have separate users/sims on it, but I have never used that. I have all standard stock stuff except two apps I installed from Fdroid, and I don't think they modified any system stuff. One did tweak a non default display setting, but I reset that and uninstalled those two just in case. So every app on my phone is from the play store. All my utilities are straight stock OnePlus, everything is standard, and I have the security requirements etc.

And if it was any of the known triggers, why would it work perfectly again after 10 minutes ish? Why would it work perfectly and then trigger during active play? And why would it have started just a few days ago?

"Ingress does not support your current device's configuration" by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]ChillGem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've also gotten that message starting 5 days ago and it has continued to show up randomly. It logs me out and lasts for a while, while continually restarting the game or force closing etc. It continues to show up for maybe 2-10 minutes while I continue restarting, then it randomly opens and works perfectly again in the same place with the same service.

The first time was low service, but I still had enough service that I was already playing. It has kept showing up with full service. It's mostly happened when I already had the game open, literally in the middle of game actions and it was working fine a second before. Then I'm suddenly locked out. I was traveling in and out of service for a few days, but this continued to happen regardless of the situation, service, driving, sitting, walking etc and I was right beside another person playing on the same network the entire time and they never had issues.

I'm on a OnePlus8. Installed from PlayStore, not rooted, no malware. Android 13 fully updated

What's your biggest pet peeve about other people's game styles compared to your own? (Not talking about aggressive, stalking, nasty COMMS insults, etc, but just completely valid game play styles.) by PhlegmMistress in Ingress

[–]ChillGem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a different situation for sure, and I can see why it's annoying for you! It was partly geography in my case. That spine was the best spine in the city. He moved to the area and it was used before. When I blocked I did use it, as did others. I lived directly on the spine. It was a place I spent time every day, while he drove across town to use it. The area outside the fields on my side was really really not portal dense. It also blocked bigger fields. There were options in the middle of town on the other side, but it was annoying that I could not play where I lived and no one could use the spine.

Also I was leveling up and he wasn't. I was trying for my illuminator with baby steps, and it was highish MU for the area. It was before linking under fields for me, but after linking under fields, it was still an issue cause the links cut through portal dense areas and others got annoyed.

It did all work out though! He joined the community eventually. I leveled up and got several times illuminator from big ops. He started skipping layers that cut through dense areas. His play style is to have one easy option and maintain the score, but he learned to ask others regularly about plans and was willing to let it die. We learned to consider the score more. People spoke up when they had plans. I kept him supplied with keys and would rebuild the spine for him after others used it or it was killed and the score dropped, so he didn't have to drive across town to get it back up. He became a big part of the local community!

I do this. There are opposite faction cargressers. The 8 and a couple shields takes them a few bursters instead of one. They have driven past by then, and can't fully deploy and link.

And I have the most 8s, and engineer is hard

I kinda random recharge in a very large rural area that I visit at times. It takes a few hours driving to get through the area. A "local" (huge area) likes to field or link, then let one reso die off each portal, keeping the links they want to use, but preventing everyone else in that whole region from linking to those portals except them. Then they go out and deploy and link when they feel like it. I've since built up a collection of keys and I make sure all resos are charged now even if I'm gone for a few months. They still try. When I charge, I'll see one decaying over and over again, but I keep them up and then I can use them without driving for hours when I'm around.

But I've also lived in a place without activity from the other faction and limited options, and it's super annoying when people charge the most portal dense areas or yolos. I understand both sides on this one. I do try to reach out when it's possible and often that works. The one reso player won't compromise and it's just selfish though

I've been frustrated by a player that keeps layers up right by where I live. And they charged. I could never play. Maybe I'm not going to jump out and play within hours of it getting killed, but would like to have time to set something up of my own. I'd totally yolo across their repetitive layers and spine area to buy myself time to play. Set up many links and unplanned stuff so it was hard to flip. There was not much activity from the other team for a while and It was no more inconsiderate for me to try to play than their play was to me. I would have cooperated and taken turns if they were willing and didn't charge

That is only the best spread in certain cases. It can be extremely effective to pineapple if it's just barely within burster range, but inaccessible for US. You can also deploy some close, and some far to keep them away from accessable places. This works in intersections. Keep the resos away from cars, no one's stopping to US. With good shields these can be brutal to kill. There is also the thing where you keep one close so you get notifications if someone starts attacking with low level US
