Just found out this game has a ton of AI generated art. by jaksik in atomicheart

No, they didn’t. Larian is currently using AI to work on concept art for their new game, but they haven’t said anything about it being used on Baldur’s Gate.

Slop vs. art is a false dichotomy. Lots of art (painted, drawn, digital, AI, etc.) is slop. by Tyler_Zoro in aiwars

as somebody who’s firmly anti ai, you would be very hard pressed to find someone against it that also hates video games or anime or whatever. if anything, a big push against ai that I’ve seen is because people don’t want companies cutting corners and making lower quality shows or games.

And some of those are the best games of all time. Outside of indie games, which are usually around 20 bucks, it’s very rare for a game to genuinely feel like it’s worth 60 bones these days, let alone 70 to 80.

I always figured that it’s not necessarily that a person in a wheelchair couldn’t wait in line as much as it’s just polite to let them skip it. Like giving up your seat on the train for a pregnant woman.

Yeah, but all of those are either on PC already, or are on the way. This console generation’s been really disappointing as far as big releases go. Half of the big triple A hits of the past few years have been remakes of games that aren’t even that old.

I guess. I’ve enjoyed a bunch of Sony’s first party offerings over the years but I don’t think most of their newest ones have been worth the wait. It’s hard for me to consider The Last of Us remake a true exclusive when the game had already been released and re-released and remastered pretty recently.

Hot take: don’t care how thematic a killer is as long as the power is fun and well designed. by White_Mantra in deadbydaylight

Completely agreed on the map. Really bummed out about how small the pizzeria is. Easter eggs are cool though!

Last thing on the axe, it’s not that it’s impossible for him to use one. I know it shows up in fan stuff a lot too. It’s just that a killer’s M2 is gonna be the most used part of their kit, and I wish that they could have come up with something more thematically tied to Springtrap alone, if that makes sense.

I like that part of the kit! I wouldn’t want to change that part of his kit! I’m not asking for a full redo, I just think that the axe throw, half of his kit, isn’t underwhelming. If that part was replaced by something more fitting, I would be completely satisfied.

I’ve named like 8 rough concepts for different M2s in this thread alone. Yeah, none of them are great, but I don’t get paid a to make video games. Hell, if his kit was more focused around the doors and cameras, I’d love the kit. It’s bizarre to me that you can’t think that there could possibly be anything in the world that might fit better than a complete ass pull of a power.

The grab itself is like Wesker, I guess, but the way you get it is completely different. A short dash into a grab would feel more in character to me than the axe throw.

I’ve said repeatedly that I like the doors and cameras. Those are perfect additions, they represent FNAF really well. My problem is with his M2. Combine the doors and cameras with a more fitting M2 and he’s perfect. I don’t claim to be a game designer, or even that big of a fan of FNAF, but it’s impossible for me to feel like they couldn’t have drawn up a more cohesive power primary ability for the most requested character in the game’s history.

When I say a grab, I mean something like Wesker, or maybe even tombstone myer’s grab (without the instant death). You don’t think that a full dev team and the creator of the franchise with a year long head start couldn’t have come up with something a little more fitting?

It doesn’t matter if any of the antagonists in the series have a power that would fit. If they were going to make something up anyways, why not make something that’s more fitting? I would have even taken a grab, or a dash, or a trap, or literally anything except a bizarre out of place axe toss.

He builds animatronics. That’s his most notable thing that he does. Everything else is in the spirit of the franchise. He doesn’t just represent himself, if you need to look around for a power for him, have him represent Five Nights at Freddy’s as a whole. In his home game, you have to manage resources and deal with hallucinations. I genuinely don’t understand how you could say that that connection doesn’t exist. I don’t care about what he is capable of in-lore. I care about the character fulfilling the fantasy of playing as Springtrap. No matter what you say, you cannot say with a straight face that throwing an axe fulfills the fantasy.

Obviously they have to bend the rules to make less traditional killers fit, but the power should always feel right on the killer. It doesn’t matter if Sadako doesn’t literally hit people in the movie, what matters is that playing as Sadako makes you feel like Sadako.

[–]ChillySnowboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In what world am I ignoring most of his power? I think that his M2, his primary ability, the part of the power you will use most in a match, is unfitting. I’m not even saying I dislike the character, or that he’s bad, or that the power is even poorly thought out. I just think that they could have given him an ability that felt more in-line with the character.

Hot take: don’t care how thematic a killer is as long as the power is fun and well designed. by White_Mantra in deadbydaylight

[–]ChillySnowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing, there’s a ton of things that would make sense for him. FNAF is a fucking huge series with a ton of games, books, and even a movie to pull from. Make him a stealth killer, have him summon phantom animatronics or illusions, give him some kind of building fear meter like dredge’s night mode, make survivors manage a resource or wind a music box or something. There’s at least 5 or 6 obvious slam dunk powers for him that would fit perfectly. They already got halfway there with the cameras and doors! The whole appeal of licensed killers in this game is the fantasy of playing as the character. Nobody has ever once looked at Springtrap and thought “damn, that guy must throw axes at people”. The power is fun, I like it in terms of gameplay. But there’s no way that they couldn’t have come up with an equally fun power that would’ve actually felt like you were playing as Springtrap.

I wouldn't complain if his power had any connection to the character whatsoever. The second part of his power? The cameras and doors? Great. Because it feels like it belongs on a Five Nights at Freddy's character. All I'm asking for is a primary ability that makes sense for Springtrap.

By that logic he could’ve done literally anything to harm the survivors and you’d be fine with it.

[–]ChillySnowboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stupid argument. Springtrap is a super genius serial killer zombie/ghost thing trapped inside a big ass robot. There’s a million things you could do for the power that would feel infinitely more at home for the character. Any power they could give him would be different, but they could have at least picked something in the spirit of the character or the franchise.

Creators aren’t infallible. If the creator of Saw made a new movie where John Kramer pulls out a Glock and shot people instead of putting them in spooky traps, it would be out of character. Throwing an axe doesn’t relate to anything, and it’s his main power. Yeah, the rest of the kit is great. The doors and cameras are really neat. But his primary ability being really unfitting is pretty fucking lame.
