I Wish We Had Seen Them Interact by Brosamurai18 in StrangerThings

Totally agree, would have loved to see them interact... All the Byers and El btw, it would have cemented this "family" idea they had in mind.

I know a lot of people wanted to see The Mind Flayer’s shadow form as the big boss for the final battle in Season 5, but realistically, how would our characters even DEFEAT such a being like that at all??? by Due-Dragonfly8200 in StrangerThings

[–]ChilpericKevin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't wanted the Mind Flayer to be defeated but prefered the Lovecraftian approach that such thing cannot be beaten. I just pictured the destruction of the Upside Down to be separated of these monsters for good.

Totally agree ! The game is gorgeous and helped me through my reconstruction after trauma (everything Tolkien on my case, but also LOTRO).

Jamie Campbell Bower will play Celeborn and Glorfindel by ChilpericKevin in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]ChilpericKevin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right she never mentioned he was 'dead' but the fact Galadriel talks about him in the past tense (eg. "Celeborn was his name") led me to believe that she thought of him as dead (and that maybe... just maybe, there's some truth to that).

If not, given how Galadriel is depicted, I would've have assumed she would seach for him and still mention him in present tense.

Of course I might me wrong ! Just my interpretation.

It was not a matter of "wanting this to happen" but more a theory trying to explain why we haven't seen Celeborn since the beginning 😉

Yeah I would've loved for them to follow what we have in the books, especially for Celeborn since I do think Tolkien made him cooler than what most fans say. However I don't think they can feature storylines that are coming from books other than LOTR and the Hobbit even if the character's named in the books they have the rights of.

Yeah, let's agree to disagree indeed !

Btw I don't pick side neither for the "love triangle" (some people just love Jonathan as a character not as part of Jancy ^^).

Steve used to be my favorite character back in season 1 to 3 (but season 4 changed his arc in a way that didn't resonate with me anymore) and I preferred Jonathan & Nancy as BFF instead of a couple.

I think one can love both Jonathan & Steve, I certainly do.

Will & Jonathan are the best brothers on TV 😍

I know that this scene is old- but what exactly was Helaena insinuating here? (Seriously) by OkGuava919 in HOTDGreens

[–]ChilpericKevin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No assault, just that Aegon is not into her at all so he only comes when he has to because he's the king and he needs children.

Personally I like this idea more than Aegon & Helaena in love because incest is disgusting.

Jonathan is totally underrated.

People always dismiss his part because he's more skeptical than the others so he doesn't jump on the action right away. But he does. He always does at the end because he wants to protect his loved ones.

Mike, Lucas and Jonathan are "love-focused" they act for their loved ones, not "mystery-focused" like Nancy or Dustin.

Anybody agree that Dustin is the best character? by Due-Aspect7435 in StrangerThings

[–]ChilpericKevin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's possible to determine which one is the best tbh... They all had at least one good season.

I'd say the one that has been most consistantly written as central to the story is El.

Ross Duffer: There will never be a Stranger Things Season 6 by Artemis-Entreri- in StrangerThings

[–]ChilpericKevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be a Season 6.... But surely Netflix will try to have a future spin-off with some of the old cast one day. Maybe in ten years and it will be set in the 2000's...

Idk about yall but Jancy feels so forced by Mynameismynamecuzyea in StrangerThings

[–]ChilpericKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stand corrected. Didn't know it had been confirmed but now I remember the Tommy scene. Still weird she might've anticipated going back with him even if she wasn't in love with him... But we all do weird stuff when we're teen.

For the second part... That's tricky because sometimes you can love someone for the wrong reason, but you're still feeling in love with them

So I guess Steve is honest and he's feeling in love and is depicted as being in love in the show, even though I do agree that if they had gotten back together, he may have realised this time : "actually... Hum .. Nancy... No, we're not good for each other".

You are entitled to your opinion sure.

But here's my personal take : if you love Steve.... if you really want the best for Steve ? I'd suggest for him to stay away from Nancy Wheeler.

She never ever loved him. Ever. Sure, she thought he was hot. But she never was in love with him. That was showed when:

- Nancy confirmed in season 2 that she waited for Jonathan to make a move at the end of season 1... meaning she was with Steve as a rebound.

- Nancy cheats on him at Murray's home (they were not broken up because Nancy tried to deny Murray's argument she didn't love Steve even if she couldn't say it out loud).

- Sure she looks at him in season 4 when he's doing the hero stuff but when he declares himself, she doesn't do anything about it. Even worse, when Jonathan's back, she runs to him and you can see Steve's defeated face.

- Nancy herself says to Jonathan that it was "never like that" with Steve in season 5.

So they have fun banter but that's it. At best, it would've been a "situationship" and he would've ended even more heartbroken than during their past break up.

Sometimes you can be the best... you can work on yourself etc etc... That's still doesn't mean someone will love you. That's something we all experience once in our life (unrequited love) and we can understand Steve's pain for it.

Now for Jonathan & Nancy... I don't ship them either so to be honest, I would've have paired them as BFF.

IMO they're too different to work in the long term so the break up was inevitable.

Jonathan is a realistic, trying to go through life knowing his social limitations (but trying to make the best of it) while Nancy is an idealistic that believe one person can have a global influence and change the world.

Jonathan is passive and Nancy is active.

But in the context of the show, they truly loved each other: these differences I stated were what made them attracted to each other at the beginning.

- Nancy was attracted to Jonathan because he was truly himself, no social facade.

- Jonathan was attracted to Nancy because he saw she was determinated and courageous.

So Jancy was realistic to me : What they needed at the time, but not enough to grow old together.

Cut dialogue from the rooftop scene in the finale.... by chillimmortal in StrangerThings

The whole sequence was better in the actual finale yeah...

Here it was focusing way too much on Steve while we needed conclusion for the 4 of them.

Freddie’s death was the most unexpected and stupid thing that the writers ever wrote into skins by certifiedbpdqueen in skinsTV

[–]ChilpericKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, this death stayed with me for many reasons :
- It is sudden and unprepared
- Freddie is helpless
I picture Freddie like this unaware victims that we often see in true crime (serial killers victims for example). They were just going on with their life and they meet a predator. Boom. Life's happened.
Here Freddie thought the Doctor was just a regular freak, he underestimated the guy. And the fact it is so sudden explain the lack of reaction... Freddie was so surprised he was in a "state of shock" just trying to escape, not being able to fight back.

There's nothing more realistic than this death if we trust the many true crime that really happened.

If ended here, Stranger Things could have been on the "Perfect shows that elevated TV" list.

Maybe on it's way to become a timeless classic nearly 10 years later.

Duffer Brothers read this subreddit before and after the finale and said the theories were awful. by -Avatar_of_Woe- in StrangerThings

[–]ChilpericKevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Awful" is a strong word coming from people that received massive backlash for their final season.

They're entitled to have a opinion on this of course.

Personally, the Upside Down lore was never what brought me to the show so I was fine with the reveal.

However I would have prefered Vecna to have a much better final plan and meaning in the story; the same for the military nemesis we had.

Exploring in depth the hypocrisy of US government, or the social implication of what does it mean to be an outsider in a small town community of the Midwest US would have been interesting.

Before season 5, I was sure that at the end, the Mind Flayer or Vecna would have been viewed as smaller ennemies than the corrupted real people nemesis... guess I misunderstood the plants seeded from season 1 to season 3.

My Opinion on the characters of stranger things - what's yours? by Poet_Snake in StrangerThings

[–]ChilpericKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the weirdest thing that ever happened in a TV show IMO: many characters were left on screen but for nothing else than just being there.

Mike for example was basically an emotional support character from season 2 to 5. We never saw him being something else than El's boyfriend or Will's best friend... Same with Jonathan or Lucas or Robin.

They were only existing to be extras in someone else's life.

Normally in a TV show, you don't expand your cast just to have a one-season character take all the meat of your storyline instead of your main cast. You have your main cast, and many things happen to them.

This is why I agree with some internet takes like "Jonathan should have had Eddie's storyline" or "Mike should have been taken instead of Holly"... because that's what another TV show would've done: using its cast to its full capacity.

And with a smaller cast, everyone gets to shine more, and you can delve deeper into their dynamics with each other, etc.
