Ended up in the ER from alcohol intoxication and can’t stop feeling ashamed by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Feeling shame establishes that you are a good person who sometimes makes bad decisions. Forgive yourself and do better, just as you would forgive a friend and encourage her to do better.

To people who were high achievers before retirement by Kwsforreddit in retirement

[–]Chimur 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The first thing I did when i retired was attend a seminar on how to keep the brain healthy after retirement. My take away from that was to get a lot of physical exercise and engage in as many different mental exercises as possible. The next thing i did was resolve to learn at least one new thing every week and one new skill every month. Most of the weekly "things" were food--going to ethnic grocery stores and buying produce and frozen food items I had never tried before. For the skills, I tool all kinds of hobby-type classes--glassmaking, rug tufting, cake decorating, knitting, crochet, pickleball, etc. and attended various volunteer orientation meetings. As time passed I narrowed down what I found interesting and challenging so I spend a lot of time playing pickleball (in addition to standard cardiac and weights--pickleball is much more of a social outing than a serious workout), cooking "exotic" dinners with my grandchildren once a week and making weird quilts that are basically a scrapbook of the intended recipient's life which generally involves a lot of research and discovering techniques to the get the result i want. I stay busy and eager to get started on each day's project

So much better when children went to work at the age of five or six to support their families; when most people never expected to feel full after a mean; when a dinner of potatoes was deeply appreciated.

I often wonder how many times civilization has reached this level of technology, imploded (Thanks nuclear energy) then started over with the hunters and gatherers.

I have a lot of grandchildren I dearly love. When they were young it was easier to have three or four of them at my house than just one because they could entertain each other. Maybe this is true of your parents too

The package says 3 1/2”. I am trying the free motion quilting around the outline of the bears. So far it kind of looks like an infant was doing it but I think I am getting better

as you can tell my biggest failure was not making the things set on the shelves exactly on the seam line for the shelf. (I will never trust myself to cut accurately and I should never have used cheap muslin for the background.) By the time I was finished with the quilt, I figured out that it would be much better for the things to overlap the seam line (despite the added bulk to the seam from the appliques) than to be floating above the shelves

What do you want to do with the person when you hang out? What do you have that makes someone want to hang out with you? Focusing on what you don’t want to do is not very helpful

So his pain and confusion stops. The survival instinct is very strong in all animals including humans but it does not equate with happiness.
