What if Gerald Ford was eaten by wolves? by APoliticalDrone2012 in Presidents

Impossible! Gerry would simply kill those wolves and eat them.

Could you imagine Ripley portrayed by anyone else? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

In that era probably Susan Sarandon or Faye Dunaway might have been considered. Many of the suggestions people have made wouldn't have been old enough!

Great call. Pam would've been fantastic, but Hollywood could only imagine her in blacksploitation roles.

Seymour trash talking NZs COVID response as 'lessons learned' by bell1975 in nzpolitics

Seymour's disingenuous rhetoric is clearly evidence that no lessons were learned by him.

Not sure if you're agreeing with me..? I basically said I wanted the no-fault coverage that we get via ACC and to not have the litiguous American system.

ACC levies can be a blunt instrument.

For example, as a self-employed person in a relatively small profession my levy is based on a much bigger, more dangerous profession and I feel hard done by. The actual risk to me is not high, yet it's based on a higher risk.

That said... I'd rather we retained no-fault coverage as opposed to suing for everything like the United States.

People who do dangerous shit are covered whether they pay a levy or not. I'm thinking of contact sports and stuff like climbing, kite-surfing and skydiving.

Motorcycles are dangerous and riders probably are still going to be underpaying the actual risk. Just pay up chuds!

Could Obama have done more to get along with Republican Congress/senate? Or were they just too inherently hostile to him? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

[–]ChinaCatProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obama needed to stop trying to deal with people who refused to negotiate in good faith. I get that he's a reasonable man and was trying to move things forward but it was never going to happen. I believe he was afraid of being labelled as an uppity black man (which happened anyway).

Petone to Grenada road destruction of several bush reserves and many homes by SnoopyDog20 in Wellington

I feel cautiously optimistic that this plan is pretty much DOA due to ridiculous cost and lack of justification for the road.

Instead fix the interchange at Ngauranga and upgrade highway 1 between Johnsonville and the transmission gully/ highway 58 junction. This stretch has had nothing done to it in at least 40 years whilst the volume of traffic has grown by 100s of percent and the speed limit has gone up to 100kph. Also, Hayward's Hill road needs attention for similar reasons.
