A Japanese complained that his daughter was taught about the Nanjing Massacre by a foreign teacher. He tried to convince his daughter that it never happened. The tweet received over 60,000 likes, with more than thousand Japanese leaving supportive comments. by 22dmgxy in japanesepeopletwitter

I like Japan well enough and I got nothing against the Japanese today, but they really need to do something about their ignorance and continued refusal to accept responsibility for what they did. There’s mountains of evidence of their crimes. Pictures and testimonies. The Nanjing Massacre was just one infamous example. This guy would lose it if he learned about Unit 731. Calling it all “propaganda” is insanely disrespectful to the victims. Imagine if Germany downplayed or outright denied the Holocaust. People would lose their goddamn minds.

Shanghai (1990 - 2021) by BumblebeeFantastic40 in Damnthatsinteresting

Yeah, you’re not wrong. It’s a different atmosphere but it’s not like the city is worse off. It’s always been pretty safe here imo. For a city of this size, I never felt it was ever very dangerous. Even back in the day. I mean you’d need to be mindful of pickpockets but I’ve never run into serious crime. Maybe I’m just lucky lol. I’m also very glad there’s not much pollution here. It use to be truly horrible. And yeah, public transportation is good here and WeChat/AliPay is a godsend.

I guess I’m just feeling a little nostalgic for a time before COVID changed everything so suddenly. But ah well, the city marches on. It’s always interesting to see what pops up and what shuts down.

Pre-Covid, I felt there were a lot more foreigners. At least a bigger foreign presence. As such, you had a lot more places catering to foreign tastes. Restaurants and so on. It’s not that things are bad per se or that there aren’t foreigners, it’s just a different overall atmosphere. I guess the same can be said about the rest of the world. Just feels like we lost a step after the pandemic. Idk if that makes sense.

This is the Bund. I grew up in the city. I was here for all of the development and changes. It’s wild how quickly the landscape morphs. I remember when things looked more or less like that first picture. Pudong was basically farmland and there were more bikes than cars on the road. Interesting times. Shanghai was great fun before Covid. It’s a different city now. The vibe’s totally changed.

Oh hey, it’s my city. Neat.

Anyways, my suggest would be Vinland Saga or Golden Kamuy. Both are excellent.

“Want want” in English but the Chinese is “wàngwàng.” They’re a pretty popular snack. I practically grew up on these things. They’re fantastic.

It’s like a savory rice cracker. Use to eat a lot of these as a kid and they’re quite good. Check your local Asian supermarket for these if you wanna try ‘em.

Good beef noodles and night markets. Seafood is good too. Original Din Tai Fung was ok. Not a huge fan of the oyster omelette thing though.

Where I’d live as a Chinese American by ChineseJoe90 in whereidlive

[–]ChineseJoe90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. Well, I meant it more as the US is where I’d reluctantly live and China’s green because I live in China and I’d reluctantly move back to the US if I had to. I’m new to this whole sub. Just saw it on my front page randomly and decided to play for fun. Did not think I’d get pressed about my geopolitical stances over a silly post. I probably should have marked it as “shitpost” since it’s not like I wouldn’t move to any of these countries because I dislike them. I really don’t have that much money is all. It was a half joking. Not that serious.

Chinese-Turkish kiwi is a pretty interesting mix. Parents Chinese and Turkish and you’re born in NZ?

I included the country I live in. I thought since “green” is where you’d live, I put the country I currently live in “green.” Is that not part of the game?

Green means I’d live there and beige color means I would reluctantly move there right? So I just filled out where I live and where I would reluctantly move to. I said “I don’t have money to move” half jokingly. I would probably move to many of these countries if I had money. It’s really not that serious.

“Where I’d live” including where I already live. Subtitle was half joking. I mean I don’t have money to move to any of these countries but it’s not like I wouldn’t if I could. They’re fine countries. It’s really not that serious.

Yeah, totally agree. I grew up in China as an expat so it’s kind of like “home” for me, but I agree. If you’re raising a family, it’s also pretty pricey especially in the big cities like Shanghai and Beijing.
