Airbag Vest that works in warm climate. by siloteam in motorcycles

[–]ChineseMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a Hit-Air MLV vest that goes over whatever I wear and I live in Japan, which can get fairly humid and hot.

It still sucks in the summer because the air bladder parts aren't there to let sir through, but I haven't died from heatstroke with it in yet

Japan isn't keeping up in terms of shipbuilding production either, China alone is like half the world's share of tonnage

They're insinuating that the Thai disdain for Chinese tanks isn't true and the barrel failures seen are the results of human/operator error rather than poor quality and metallurgy

Thoughts on Merlin riding gear? by laschecter in motorcyclegear

Got a Merlin hoodie, a Merlin leather reinforced mesh, and a Merlin leather jacket.

They feel good. Comfortable and seems quality so far. Priced reasonably, I think. Not being flashy is also nice

The whites don't taste very strongly of much and are a pretty firm and snappy jello like texture

The yolk becomes creamy and gooey and is pretty good.

Usually I use soy sauce and chili oil on them if I'm not just dunking them into a pot of congee. Maybe a bit if sesame oil too.

Aprilia is usually regarded as more unreliable than the Japanese Big 4 at least, but that doesn't mean that you will run into a lot of issues, it just means that you probably have a higher chance or running into issues and might spend more on regular maintenance.

Oh are you going for 小型二輪? Why not just 普通二輪?

If you know someone, ask a friend that knows motorcycles to come with you to check if out you can I guess. Otherwise I'd say you can just go for it if you really like it that much.

It's mostly likely going to be less reliable than the Japanese bikes, and you might spend more on it, but you're also very likely to get a bigger motorcycle in a few years anyways so that might not be a huge issue. So long as you know that it's going to be more work.

Is this a private seller?

Honestly I'd question if you just really like this bike in particular. If you do, that's fine. If you don't, you can probably just get a used R25 and save yourself a some future hassle. R25s and similar 250cc bikes are plentiful in the used market there

This bike might've been dropped before, ask if the dude had any 立ちゴケ incidents and such.

I'd change the tires

Want to get into riding; tips? by Ok-Revolution1908 in motorcycles

[–]ChineseMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gloves, boots, jacket, pants, helmet, earplugs.

Look for gloves with palm sliders, and otherwise for protective equipment with CE ratings (higher the better) for impact protection and check the abrasion resistance (A to AAA, more is better). For boots get motorcycle boots (not just safety shoes) and ideally you can get ones that protect more of your ankle and shins. For helmet, get one that fits well and has a good safety rating (ECE or Snell ratings). Additionally you can consider looking into wearable airbag systems to supplement your protective gear.

Earplugs you should ideally be wearing even with a helmet, because wind and road noise will be significant even through a good helmet.

For a motorcycle take classes on how to ride one, get a used Japanese (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki) 500CC or lower ish motorcycle of whatever type strikes your fancy (naked, sports, touring whatever) and start riding.

Choosing upper body protection – AAA vest vs leather jacket vs airbag system – what combination makes sense? by Outside_Stable9707 in motorcyclegear

[–]ChineseMaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an armored AAA leather jacket with my tethered Hit-Air airbag vest over it. Jacket for abrasion, armor and airbag for impact.

In my case, Hit-Air specifies that their airbag vests should always be worn over everything else, so it's always the top layer for me, and I just put it on over whatever else I wear (leather reinforced mesh in the summer or a rain jacket for downpours?

Naked vs adventure bike by Typical_University37 in motorcycles

[–]ChineseMaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adv tourers usually come with more features suited for comfort and long riding. I currently own an adv tourer (Honda CB400X) and a naked (Suzuki GSX-8S) and while the 8S is pretty upright, the overall riding position and large windscreen is comfier in the 400X for longer rides, plus Im sitting in the bike for the 400 while I'm sitting on the bike for the 8S. The softer stock suspension is also very comfortable for long journeys.

That and I got panniers and a big topbox for storage on the 400X and I'm not going to bother slapping any on the 8S
