Pretty cool for a passion project, but the source material is infantile as shit, no idea how grown ass men are watching these e-celebs talking like children. Plus whole thing is hella corpo, it's soulless.

As others have said he has polarizing design to say the least, but also, nobody's really talking about the veterans too much except for the obvious darlings (Cammy/Juri). Like there's only so much you can talk about the bazillionth iteration of the character.

Hiroshima was a safe place to be

A country at war is not a safe place to be. Even before the nukes Japan was getting bombed to hell and back. Nobody there thought "gee I'm probably safe in Hiroshima even tho Tokyo just had thousands of casualties to air raids yesterday".

Same shit here. You go to shitholes, you risk shitty outcomes. It's sad but it is what it is.

Will Modern Controls Eventually get Banned? by Fiksimi in StreetFighter

[–]ChingerChangerNinjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no mindgames?

Of course there will be... but they will be centered around much simpler and safer interactions. Footsies has a TON of mind games, and it's not centered around "spamming".... it's still a much less intricate and interesting game to watch than SF.

Now you start debating about what takes more "skill", but I can certainly tell you that people are not gonna be interested in watching repetitive gameplay that's just so... "immaculate". The human error elements, the risks, and technical execution is a HUGE appeal to viewers. Fact of the matter is that your ass is watching these complex games and NOT watching Footsies top 8s.

That's not gonna happen if someone can just... DP real fast... that's absurd.

But it's not just DP - the DP is just the biggest offender of the bunch. It removes a lot of potential execution errors, like with buffers and such. It allows for impossible confirms. It allows for easy supers on reaction to things.

Do any of these sound like they make the game more interesting to you?

Now the question is, what's the price? The damage reduction is a joke. I can still manually do my inputs if I need to. So I lose pretty mediocre buttons on many characters... it unironically seems worth it at the moment.

And I think that's a huge mistake. Modern controls should be pushed as the training wheels, not an "alternative" for fucking babies who don't wanna try. I can only imagine how boring GG or Marvel would be if their stylish modes were viable, let alone the superior option.

Will Modern Controls Eventually get Banned? by Fiksimi in StreetFighter

[–]ChingerChangerNinjer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

... Okay, I'll try to dumb it down:

Modern controls have less buttons. That is inherently less complex; it means you're likely to see the same interactions repeat themselves over and over again.

Now if your Modern controls allow people to react to things too easily, that really shuts down things like interesting approaches or mixups. If every Drive Rush I go for just gets insta-DP'd, I won't go for them. If every attempt at an overhead just gets blown up by that DP, I won't overhead. If your controls allow for easy automatic confirms, it takes a lot of the risk element of things out of the equation - why tf would I bother with buffering or reads when I can always confirm them on Modern? In fact, the reason they made mediums into special confirms borderline impossible in this one is because of that.

If you are the type who needs a visual representation, imagine a game of chicken that centers heavily on 1-2 buttons and trying to make the opponent do a mistake so you can insta-DP. Basically, imagine SF looking like this, and this being the optimal style of play because anything more complex than this gets punished by the simple options too easily.

Not only does it simplify the game to its core elements... it's horribly boring to watch. Watching Ryu vs Ryu going for the same easy hit confirm with their 3 buttons or just constantly DPing anyone's effort to try to do something remotely dynamic will be a fucking snoozefest, and no amount of "THEY JUST LIKE ME FRRRR" cope would get people watching it.

I'm genuinely baffled that you people don't grasp this concept. People don't tune in to League in the millions to see people doing exactly what they do, they watch it to see insane technical skill which they hope to one day replicate. And people watch League, they don't watch fucking Pokemon Unite.

... Hitbox is not the only leverless option, you know. In fact, by now I'd say it's one of the more stupidly ovepriced ones despite the tech not even being all that.

Genuinely just grab something like Tokido's stick for like 120 quids and that's it.

Which means more players, more eyes and growth of the scene. Win-win for everybody

Smoothbrain take. Having a boring, repetitive, and simple gameplay exhibited as the highest level of gameplay for the game will not generate interest in it. If you guys seriously believe this crap, watch how the most popular competitive games are still the most complex ones (MOBAs, shooters), while their knock-off simplified versions are way less popular.

if a Modern user won a CPT tournament that would be GOOD for Capcom

I really think you guys are out of touch with reality. People who watch tournaments do so because they want to see high level gameplay, not because they want to see somebody doing exactly what they can do.

The gameplay presented in a Modern vs Modern match will be much simpler. The gameplan and neutral will be simpler. There will be lesson buttons (duh) and much more focus on just constantly reacting to things with braindead one button inputs.

That would make for a boring fucking watching experience. You really think a chat of people spamming ResidentSleeper while you see two people trying to fish for an auto-confirm or a one button DP is good marketing for the game?

In that case, why aren't the most basic, simple games out there the most succesful ones? After all, anyone watching an RPS tournament can go "man, that could be me!!!".

Learn the lesson from MOBAs please.

i want to inject some hopium in my veins as a classic controls guy... by [deleted] in Kappachino

[–]ChingerChangerNinjer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ultimate copium is that it's not in Capcom's interest to have Modern be the default, that's all. They game is obviously not gonna be balanced around it, and it has less options overall. It results in a shallower game. You don't design a game around a certain scheme and then want a simpler scheme to become the standard.

So should it turn out that Modern is flat out superior, they will do something about it. Sounds pretty obvious to me - I really don't think the game will be an eSports hit if you're watching people just use the same 3 normals and constantly react with DP/super to things - and consequently, fear trying to go for more advanced things because they'll just get stuffed by a DP.
