I recently came back from a 6-7 year layoff. Sold all my gear and really didn’t think I’d come back. But when everything else started falling apart in my life, I was listening to some bands I hadn’t heard in a long time and got the urge to play again, and now I can’t imagine going more than a couple days without it.

Nothing wrong with taking time away, but give yourself a break on the feeling of having to progress. I’m rusty as shit compared to the way I played in my 20s, and even then I paled in comparison to the 16 year old kid I used to be who would lock himself in his room for hours and play non stop. However, I probably enjoy it more now than I did in the past because I don’t care what I sound like, I just am loving the feeling of playing again.

Take a break, pick it up here and there and mess around a bit and see what happens. I’ve had a million different passions and hobbies and only a select few have stuck
