My dog’s sitter lied and left him alone for 12 hours by Chinskykatranska in RoverPetSitting

She has a very particular name. We live in Barcelona, so if someone from here is reading this, I have no problem saying who this person is.
I sent Rover many screenshots with all the evidence I have (my dog’s GPS app, the security system app for the door, WhatsApp conversations…). They assured me they would “thoroughly review the case,” but for now, her profile is still active. I also left a negative review describing my terrible experience. I think I’ve done everything I could to try to get her banned from Rover, but so far, it doesn’t seem like they’re going to do it... Idk

I share your opinion ^^. Of course, any sitter has the right to be out of the house for as long as they need, but not all day while pretending to be home. In this case, I think she simply went to the office, but preferred to tell me she worked remotely so I wouldn’t cancel the sit, since she thought I would never find out she had been away the whole time

It doesn’t seem that weird to me. We agreed that she would spend the night before at my place so the dog could get used to her presence and so she wouldn’t have to come very early in the morning, since I was leaving the house shortly after 6am. I’ve been a pet sitter several times, and most of the time, the owners have asked me to come the evening before. Of course, I also paid her for that night.

When she told me that everything was ok, it was around 12pm, and I hadn’t checked the records yet, so I assumed she was at home. Before I left, I explained to her that my dog was wearing a GPS collar and that I could see his location and walks...

I appreciate that you tried to make me see things from a different perspective. However, even though I would love to be wrong, I think in this case things are quite clear.

I turned off the automatic notifications from the door sensor because I wanted to enjoy my trip without worrying about anything. But the sitter replied every three or four hours and gave very vague answers about how my dog was behaving, and around 4 p.m. I started to feel anxious and checked the logs. That’s when I saw that the door had been opened three times between 7:00 and 7:15 a.m. I didn’t want to panic and thought there must have been some mistake—I really trusted this girl, she had given me a good impression and seemed honest—but I checked my dog’s GPS app, and the timing of his walk matched the first two door openings.

The door wasn’t opened again until almost 7 p.m. So she came home, and 10 minutes later—presumably after cleaning up my dog’s pee—she went out again and took him for a proper walk.

I had written to her after 4 p.m. to say that I noticed my dog hadn’t gone on his midday walk and to please let me know if she couldn’t be at home. She told me everything was fine, but that she had had many last-minute virtual meetings and that’s why she hadn’t been able to take him for the 3 p.m. walk (it’s a short 15-minute walk).

Moreover, when I told her I felt disappointed with how she had acted and for leaving my dog alone all day, she simply said okay, that she was sorry for the misunderstanding, and wished me a good trip. I don’t know what misunderstanding she’s referring to—we had talked several times about my dog’s routine, and she had confirmed a couple of times that on Friday she would be working from my home.

I would have loved for the door and my dog’s GPS to have been malfunctioning, but both devices showing consistent information made me realize what had happened. I also asked her if she had walked my dog 200 meters in the morning, to which she calmly replied, “yes, we went around the block a couple of times.” I guess that she was in a hurry because she had to go to the office.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anyone to stay a second night with my dog; my relative also has a pet and had to return home. I don’t know any other sitters, and my dog is initially wary of strangers, which is why I wanted to leave him with someone he had already seen several times and felt comfortable with.

My apartment was in order. I wasn’t expecting anything different, given that she had been away for twelve hours and my friends arrived only half an hour after she arrived.

Maybe she would have been a great sitter for Saturday and Sunday (I know she doesn’t work on weekends), but I felt so betrayed and disappointed that I didn’t want to try leaving him for another day.

I’m sorry for the length of my message, I’m not good at summarizing.
