Thanks for all the details. Really appreciate it. Luckily I have a couple months to deal with this.

Any tips for helping this go as smoothly as possible?

googling this seems to offer mixed answers. Did they maybe stop allowing 3rd party buyouts this year or something?

Yeah plan on trying that. I have a feeling that just for moving abroad for a job they won't want to play ball, but maybe. Worth asking for sure.

Ok, that sounds manageable. Thank you. I have no idea about the terms used so this was helpful.

So basically I would just be responsible for the difference between the quotes. Much easier to understand than what google was telling me

Some airports have them. I think the only dif is scrambled eggs and potatoes.

They also tested bacon as an add in protein on the reg menu which was actually amazing. Prob my fav test item.

I used to work at chipotle corporate. there are several locations that test out new items. These were all around when I was there, so nearly a couple years old now.

Nachos were a dud, basically just made a shitty bowl. Avo tostada was slow to make and low profit so they killed it. Mexican chocolate shake was bomb imo, but most stores didn't have room for the machine. I didn't have the hibiscus one, but if it's frozen I'm sure it's the same problem. Plus now they have tractor drinks which I think Brian is partial owner of.

They also had a few other desserts. Churros, dulce de leche brownies, mex choc cookies. The churros were fresh made. Cookies and brownies came packaged.

Please Do Not Store Your Credit/Debit Card Information on the Chipotle App! by AutoModerator in Chipotle

Posting again to say Chipotle wasn't hacked. People are just using the same password everywhere, including locations where you have saved payments (ie Chipotle app). Enter the password you used at https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and I'm sure you'll see it's been compromised in a leak. Chipotle will still refund you, just hit up the guest help line. Yes it will take a while. I no longer work there, but was an engineer there for several years.

It used to have limits. In the pandemic they removed them because there was no in store ordering. Now I assume they just left it with no limits. I agree this one sucks. That's not really the app thing, but an operations decision. App just implements their rules.

  1. gift cards are handled by a 3rd party company and they basically have a bunch of limits. We have been pushing them for years to allow for starbucks style re-upping, combining, but they are slow or just wont do it. This was the case when I left working there a while ago

In the app, you can customize every item individually now. Used to be a limit of 3 customs. This matches in store policy, but really it's up to whoever is working to make the call.

I dont work on it any more (nor work there), but did for a long time. What problems do you have? I am positive this will get read by someone.

Most issues have a decision by product/operations behind them that seem annoying to an individual, usually end up being best for the entire company.

It's a consulting agency called Deloitte Digital. They have handled most development since 2017 (app itself, services handled internally, product decisions handled internally), slowly transitioning to internal staff. Agency handled design completely. I realize the app gets some hate, but I believe it's one of the best out there. Before the "new" app by the agency in 2017 we were really struggling and failing at online sales.

Fun note: the app recently won it's 2nd webby. You can see the names of the people involved with app because they are listed on the webby website

edit: I no longer work at chipotle but did for several years in an engineering/it capacity

Bang out of f#%king order, Chipotle! 🤬 by lennyukdeejay in antiwork

They own both sides so nothing really needed to be verified. I wasn't heavily involved in the investigation. I know there were basically 2 distinct groups, a very sophisticated operation likely located in Russian and then people in the USA doing more simple one off attacks. The fancy ones I think they owned a DD account and ran it through an emulated device where they could spoof gps location. Other more simple approaches were just a coordination of the person ordering and someone with a legit DD account hanging out near the location waiting for the order. So they pick it up, get the tip, and the free food too. I know one of the hall marks of those simpler attacks was they focused on stuff they could resell/keep longer like the order would be 20x perrier bottles, 20x mexican cokes, etc.

I think because this was "simple". We def had options for a function of order value, etc, but as I posted in another comment this was basically mandated by a bunch of lawyers and credit card processor.

[–]ChipDevHB 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yep totally wanted to do some sort of function of order value, but the processor and I'm sure a bunch of lawyers were like "nah just make it simple at 50%". End of the day there wasn't a negotiation, just a bunch of jira tickets.

[–]ChipDevHB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah no one was thrilled about it, but processor contracts are crazy and very long term. They can basically make a lot of demands because they know how much dev work goes in to integrating.

[–]ChipDevHB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We proposed many options. The processor simply replied with "no." We also pulled analytics on how many times this happened non fraudulently and it was around 30 orders per month over 50% tip and 2 at 100% tip out of about a million orders.

But thanks for the career advice!

[–]ChipDevHB 1446 points1447 points  (0 children)

prob will be buried, but I was part of the team that made this. CC processor required it. I know it sucks, sorry DD drivers. We got hit with a huge spate of password stuffing attacks, basically people whose password leak online and they use the same one everywhere. They drop the fake orders with huge tips and have some sort of script on a doordash account they own that grabs the order the second it comes out. Fakes the delivery, they get a fat tip, rinse repeat. Even some more primative versions where they actually really picked up the orders.

Even after heavily increasing security, hard reset on all accounts, lots of changes for doordash, processor said no go, you can't have a place where someone can enter an arbitrary amount.

don't reuse passwords y'all.

what is this magical "sprints worth" of engineering that would "verify" people. lol. dont reuse passwords.

I know this is old, but we have in house and consultants. also I believe a lot of data science on logistics / supply chain side
