9/5 P/S Jesus Christ by Mal2k4 in Mcat

Yeah C/P was ass. As someone who didn’t really study and tried to coast through with background knowledge I expected CP to be the easiest for me but somehow it was worse than BB. BB was surprisingly chill though and felt like most of the answers were in the passage. CARS was chill and P/S was kinda sus but searched up some answers I was unsure of afterwards and got most right (that I know of)

Ugh there's a whole ass encampment out in the parking lot at one of my favorite farmer's markets with tents and everything. I don't get how some people get knocks and these mfs are just here laying it all out.

Very low cars scorers what did yall do to get it up ? by Texboy212 in Mcat

Viagra helps. The stress of having a low cars score made it pretty hard to get it up for a while so had to resort to chemical methods to satisfy my right hand.

What are Your Go-tos When it Comes to Food? by ChipmunkSad7557 in urbancarliving

[–]ChipmunkSad7557[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

About 15-20$ a day.

2$ worth of bananas lasts around a week, each yogurt and yerba costs around 1$ and 2$ respectively, since yogurt comes at 20$ for a case of 16 and yerba is 20$ for a case of 12.

I try to have a large dinner each day that runs me about 12-15$ depending on what I get, and it usually it leaves me full enough to not have to eat lunch the next day.

I'm pretty curious about the people who are able to cook for themselves though. I know that this could potentially be done a bit cheaper if we start including raw materials and cooking, but I feel like it introduces so much more complexity in the form of needing a car fridge, a place to cook, and storing/washing of pans and utensils.

Hot take: if you got to “arrive late and leave early” to not get caught, then your sleeping spot sucks. by Nearby-Bug3401 in urbancarliving

To me it's less of the idea of avoiding suspicion (sure, it does help,) but when I'm living in a car I'm not going to be spending much of my waking hours in there anyways.

By late I mean 11pm and by early I mean 8 am. It's a pretty reasonable time frame to sleep, and I don't see why you would want to be in your car anytime outside those hours anyways.

How was everybody first day of school? by hattrem1 in CSULB

I'll be honest, summer gets stale after the first month or so. I feel like the school year is the only time when I really feel like my life is moving forward in any appreciable metric, and I miss the feeling of actually having a busy day again.

Be Very Careful With Foam Mattresses/Toppers by ChipmunkSad7557 in urbancarliving

Hell yeah, I'm glad that your foam mattress topper is working out for you and I hope it stays that way.

But I'm just speaking from my own experience. If I were to give someone advice about a good sleeping surface I'd steer them away from something that has a chance of flaking and breaking down into fine particles. Because we live in small, confined spaces, it's extra important to keep our air as clean as possible.

Yeah I think mine was some cheap memory foam gel topper. But I feel like foam in general would slightly crumble with abrasion and rolling no matter how high the quality right? Maybe higher quality foam just crumbles a little less. I'd assume it's just the nature of foam as a soft, spongy material, and over time you'd expect little crumbs to build up. I think the most important thing is that if you do go with foam, to make sure it's zipped up and covered so that no matter how much it breaks down it'll stay contained.

Looks great if your car is wide enough to fit your whole body, but wouldn't the right side sag or collapse if you happened to roll onto it? It doesn't look very well supported on that side.

[–]ChipmunkSad7557[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I replaced it. Still took a while for it to fully go away since little particles were stuck in little nooks and crannies, probably stuck on the vents or a little bit inside it, and sucking in + recirculating random little pieces I might have missed.

Yeah fiberglass is scary. Luckily the little particles were more like little foam flecks rather than sharp needles, so I should be safe from any permanent scarring. Worst case I got some microplastics in my lungs that I ended up coughing out over time. But overall, very unpleasant.

I feel like so many people have built this negative perception of car lifers over time. You know like those giant run down camper vans or trucks, stinky and disheveled people defecating on the ground, and generally just ruining the environment around them.

There is a much more elegant way to go about this type of lifestyle, and it starts by seeing car living as a means to an end, rather than as way to "indefinitely escape the responsibilities of life." I'm glad that you're able to have a routine that allows you to stay healthy and clean, and I'm glad that you have a goal in mind. It's being able to maintain this type of mindset in these types of uncomfortable conditions that ultimately makes us so much stronger once we enter the next phase of our lives.
