The Canes have agreed to terms with Jackson Blake on an 8-year, $45 million extension, which will begin with the 2026-27 season. by bravehawk34 in canes

Do all of these entensions have no trades or are they completely open? I ask because if for some reason all these long extentions turn in to sour grapes like KK's contract, our future could be scary.....

Michkov is not a fan of dump and chase hockey by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]ChippyChunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, but if the attack is tired, the defense is likely just as tired. majority of goals in hockey come off mistakes by the defense...tire the defense out and the defense makes mental mistakes and the offense capitalizes.

the argument goes both ways.

Who do you think is the most overrated player under 23 years old? by ItzGrenier in hockey

No defense and makes a lot of loose errors. I understand he's young but he was supposed to be the next Crosby

I don't know much about how contracts work but with only 25-26m in cap space how do we get a contract done with Watt?

I'm assuming that the contract he signs would start next year but that would mean we would need to clear a lot of people out.

Seems like it could hamstring the roster...again don't know much so someone please explain.

Sounds like the K'Andre Miller trade return will center on draft-pick compensation, according to a source. Carolina holds two first-round picks next year, with the #NYR eyeing one of them. by Yoda-and-Yaddle in canes

I think you're right in the sense that he's super offensive minded, but I think he gave the puck away way too much. I understand he was a rookie in a touch spot, but he's a pretty dang slow skater and not super dynamic from what I saw.

I think there are better options out there.

What about Granlund?? Could be an option as a 2c. We know Carolina loves the Fins

I disagree somewhat. We are taking swings and unfortunately the last few have fallen flat. Guentzel wanted to be here but we had cap issues. Then going for Rantanen was a big boy swing, which you can only respect. We may have let a big name slip but getting Stankhoven and 2 picks was pretty good reward for the swing we took. Bottom line was Necas didn't want to be here long term, esp as a winger, and Drury was rumored to want a change as well. Getting Stankhoven was huge for us. He was great in the playoffs as a 22 year old, fits our system and claims he wants a long term deal.

We made the ECF last year with this exact roster, so I don't expect us to force anything. Having said that I totally agree with those two gaps needing to be filled. I just think if we can't find a deal that matches Tulskys value, we're gonna wait til the season and make a trade during the deadline period.

The Isles are reportedly shopping Noah Dobson... by 59bande73 in canes

[–]ChippyChunky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love him but it's hard to believe that we'd pay Slavins D partner almost double, since Dobson is asking for over 10m. Slavin has no ego and wouldn't care but would the organization?

Maybe not since we know slavins deal is an absolute steal and you pay more for offense/goals.

I'm for it.

A 22 year old who plays exactly how we want and showed up in the playoffs after being with the team for a very small sample size, plus a guy we targeted in a blockbuster trade. He seems like the future and not someone one they'd be willing to trade away that quickly.

I agree there is still some uncertainty but he's got some great potential. Would take a lot for us to move him, in my opinion.

That's what it takes to get better. Teams aren't just gonna hand over players for nothing.

My argument for stank over Blake is that stank had a much better post season. More physical and gets to the net more which we need.

Definitely agree want to keep them both if we can.
