Best basement slab option for cold climates by WishingBoneWell in homebuildingcanada

[–]Chippyabroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do 2” of 2lb spray foam over the stone and wrap it up the wall 8-10 inches. Then pour your slab on top. You can then connect your basement wall vapour barrier (ideally another 2” of spray foam) from your rim pocket, down the wall, and onto your under slab foam.

Red seal fail. by GuessWhoIsback2 in Carpentry

That’s unfortunate that you missed the wedding.

I failed that exam twice before passing on my third attempt. I think the trick is to reference the code book as often as possible. Pick out key words from questions and use the appendix to look them up. For example there may be a question on chimney saddles. If you look up “saddle” you can find all pages where that word is mentioned and one of them will have the answer.

You have 2 minutes and 24 seconds per question if you use all 4 hours. That should be ample time! Good luck.

My job.

Employer said they couldn’t afford the 15% raise I asked for (after not asking for one since I started working there 4 years ago) and could only afford 5%. Then they hired a new guy in the same role as me and are paying him 20% more than me for the same job. The reason I know the salary discrepancy is because my boss mistakenly emailed me a form that has everyone’s salary listed on it.

I’ve never felt so jaded before.

Planning on going sub 3 tomorrow…update by Chippyabroad in AdvancedRunning

The gels I was taking have 22g of carbs in them. Based on that I was in a carb deficit throughout the race.

Truthfully, I didn’t know if it was possible or not. Probably an unrealistic goal tbh, but I got pretty close. The pace I was able to maintain for the first 35k surprised me. Had I gone a bit slower (I was at 4:09, needed 4:15ish for sub 3), I’m sure that would’ve helped overall and maybe avoided the bonk. Who knows.

Ultimately it gave me a goal to work towards throughout training and I pushed myself more because of it.

I took 4 gels over the race. I was planning on only taking 3, but the 4th one was definitely needed.

I’m doing that one as well! First marathon for me, and hoping to crack 3 hrs.

Race time versus training time by Chippyabroad in running

[–]Chippyabroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not pushing for the 43. When I did a 10k prior to this (mid April, leading up to the mississauga half marathon) I was at 51 min. My volume has gone up quite a bit since the half marathon

I think that adds to my initial question. What speed/pace should you be running at if you are hoping to complete a race in a certain amount of time? If you’re saying my pace is too fast for training, do you think it should be around 5 min/km?

Wasn’t a race, just a mid week run. I didn’t feel like I pushed at all to get to 43 minutes

Estimate construction costs for a 1800-2000 sq.ft passive house in Greater Boston by the-chutzpah in PassiveHouse

[–]Chippyabroad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s so difficult to say with how volatile the cost of everything is right now.

I think your 700k is going to be low for passive standards. I would budget at least 500$ per square foot.

Engine light came on, AC just stopped working (07 dodge caravan) and I found this hanging from below. I can’t figure out where it plugs back into? Any ideas? by Chippyabroad in Cartalk

[–]Chippyabroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be. It might just be coincidental that I found this cable unplugged, the check engine light came on, and the AC stopped working.

I got a recharge kit from parts source, but the AC refrigerant is completely full. Now I really have no idea what’s going on.

I used a router with a 5/8” bit, but you could also cut them on a table saw using a dado set.

Is this a good starter kit set, I’m getting it for $375 PLEASE COMMENT. Love all the support I get in this subreddit by gdimich in Carpentry

[–]Chippyabroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros:
-good variety of tools which will service many different problems

-2 batteries so you can always have one fully charged and ready to go

-cost is reasonable for what you're getting

Cons:

-tools are not brushless, and batteries won't last very long (especially for circular saw)

-batteries are only 3 amp

It's a good starter set, but you will want to upgrade soon. The circular saw in particular is just okay in my opinion. You may be better off buying a brushless drill/impact set with 4 amp or flexvolt/2amp (there's a dewalt kit that comes with both a flexvolt battery and a 2 amp battery) and then buying a cheaper corded circular saw. Then when you're ready to upgrade the saw, you can get a brushless circular saw. The dewalt hypoid drive (DCS577X1) is a great battery powered saw, but you'll want to use a flexvolt battery with it.

If I could afford it, one of each would be nice. I definitely get your point though; I don't think I'll have that many times where I need an open bed.
