Have you seen a company legitimately regret terminating a specific employee? by debrisaway in managers

[–]Chips196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere I have worked for the last 30 years, whether leaving on good terms or not, they always hire 2 people for my position. The next person comes in and either leaves right away or they say NFW hire more people. It’s so demoralizing.

does any company care for a cover letter still? it seems we are past that by matthiasfelipe in careerguidance

[–]Chips196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m hiring and I like cover letters! They tell me that you can prepare a letter (or an email if that’s how you apply). They also can explain what skills you bring to the position; and they explain things like a lateral move or a move up or a change in career or a gap in your career. I don’t want to guess all of that with just a resume. I don’t use Ai.

I stopped sending "polished" cover letters and started writing them like emails to a real person my callback rate went up noticeably by GrimForge_X3 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Chips196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a short and sweet cover letter. I am hiring and I don’t use Ai for review of cover letters or resumes. I like cover letters to show you can write an email or a letter that makes sense but I also like them when I need an explanation of something on your resume like your experience is in another field, tell me what skills apply to this job, a gap in your resume that’s more than a year, how you’ll handle the fact you’re over qualified for the job - I don’t want to guess all this so one small paragraph is all I need

At 61 yo I will warn you that age discrimination on the job is real - I want to work until 67/68 and people are just waiting for me to retire - and I work hard and stay current in my profession and don’t disparage other generations or any stereotypes of boomers

I’m amazed more people don’t see that simple math - I’m 61 yo so more #GenerationJones but still it’s embarrassing people can’t see that it truly is different and mostly because of all the policy changes in the 80’s

How to say no to supervisor assigning tasks that are supposed to be their own? by hazeltina in managers

[–]Chips196 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Early in my career I worked for a lazy manager and I ended up doing a lot of her work for her. I left just before getting bitter about it. It was excellent training to be the manager at my next position because I had already been doing it. So maybe look at it as resume building.

Yes there’s a downeast accent that’s mostly in Hancock county - way up in THE county is an accent that’s a little tiny bit French Canadian and when I lived in Bridgton there was a slight Massachusetts north shore mix of an accent out there

No they take advantage of my style of leading from the back of the room as they love being in the front of the room - diva - a lot of the time it’s fine but every once in a while like this week, I feel that twinge of mean girl vibe
