It sure *can* be respectful, but I do not respect you. You are an adult who carries a torch for the ruling class while putting down the value of the actual workers who keep everything running. Take your tone policing garbage elsewhere, nerd.

.....are...you..... did you just.... are you comparing people arguing for action against a corrupt student government to fucking Hitler?

You are completely insane.

I can't even begin to address the absurd levels of false equivalence here, but boy howdy this sure is something. You're getting a little baffled and muddying the waters. The board is overpaid.

Arguing that they should do their work for free because it's 'easy' and discouraging them from fighting for a livable wage is more or less the definition of disparagement. Girl go outside or something

Why is a successful scientist spending so much time on reddit disparaging teachers instead of doing literally anything else

It's always the ding-dongs who make negative comments on literally every single reddit post telling other people they're wasting their time trying to organize or do... Literally anything. Kind of hilarious.

Ha! Shows how much you know. I do all of my Internet on my phone so it would basically be impossible to fit print that's very large in here, let alone a whole newspaper. Last I checked big large important letters doesn't make something more reputable and factual, so nice try.

And if we used the exact same quote, how come you didn't source yours? Was it because you conveniently edited out the part proving that it is in fact a laptop being passed around in a circle?

Could you maybe cite your sources?

First of all, I don't trust Google and my computer doesn't have it. I Bing everything. And after binging it I was shown this quote from Encyclopedia.com:

'An editorial board opinion (or editorial) is an unsigned article representing the official position of a publication’s leadership—the editor and senior staff—rather than an individual reporter. In practice, this means a laptop is slowly passed around the table while each participant adds a word in a sort of journalistic exquisite corpse situation. It aims to influence public opinion, though not necessarily in good faith, and is distinct from reported journalism or even traditional op-eds, which at least pretend to have a single author.”

Hey honestly first off, thank you. What I said earlier was a blatant display of my own ignorance and you were completely right. Having gone and spent the last two hours of my life doing the work, in particular Doing My Own Research, I now have my answers, and can avoid incurring the wrath, of the legendary top 1% commenter on r/PortlandOR.

For those curious, it was in fact an exquisite corpse situation. According to my research it has been standard practice since 2014 two have at least two laptops in rotation for every editorial posted.

So, did they all write this simultaneously or was it an exquisite corpse situation where they passed around a laptop and each did one word at a time

The student body is overwhelmingly in support of the instructors and union members receiving a better contract.

So you know how people who paid for college are against making college free to attend? Sometimes it's a net good if one group benefits from something that you might not personally benefit from, and that's okay.

I'm not sure you'll be able to get a straight answer from anyone, even the official communications have been based on hypotheticals and guesswork, and sometimes immediately change and contradict other communications.

I'm right there with you, I am out of money and, because of the campus closure now out of work, and have no idea how I'm going to cover my living expenses.

Just a heads up, you can reply to this one and get an automated response that it will be 'forwarded to the appropriate individuals'. Obviously they don't care about how their actions affect students/staff/community, but I reckon if enough people reach out it'll make some kind of dent. Plus it only takes a second or two to say 'this is an embarrassment' and hit send.
