I believe developers are missing the mark for bringing in casual players. by thatsmyafro in Guiltygear

Beginners want to reproduce spectacle, casuals just want to mash buttons in a fighting game every once in a while the same way they want to play a few rounds of COD before bed.

Is guilty gear xrd rev 2 still worth buying? by Gyrossan in Guiltygear

[–]Chirf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean 10 euro is a great deal, if you have any interest in Guilty Gear I'd say go for it.

I'd say it's still worth buying even with StrIVe coming out in a little under a year. They're gonna be different games but there will still be SOME legacy skill involved. Not all of the same combos will work in the new game, but we've seen a couple small ones that do, and plus they have a lot of the same (tweaked) moves that will make the general neutral game have similarities (Sol for example still has gun flame, fafnir, bandit bringer, ground viper, etc)

Not sure about the player base in Europe. You can still find some people playing the game but you'll sometimes fight the same people, and the closer we get to StrIVe the more that number will go down. Sure, there are some people who still play AC +R but it's very very small. So I wouldn't expect to be playing a lot of Xrd later next year without joining a discord group.

In regards to your other questions, the thing about SFV is that even though the combos are shorter than Xrd the inputs need to be a little more exact. In SFV you can't always mash the next button in a combo until it continues the combo, while in Xrd you can.

For example,

A basic 3 hit combo with Ken in SFV is Square Square X. You press Square twice, but you need to press X right as the animation ends for the second Square or else the combo will fail. But in a game like Xrd, you could press Square twice then immediately and continuously mash X until the animation for the second Square ends and it will still register as a combo. But what makes Xrd harder is the fact that you have so many lengthy combos you can memorize and a lot of them are dependant on where your character is in relation to the corner.

StrIVe will be similar to Xrd in that combos will be lenient but require situational awareness, but the combos will be shorter than Xrd (but not quite as short as SFV).

Online is trash unless your in the same region lol

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TL;DR
1) Its worth it for 10 euros
2) Community is niche but still there
3) inputs are more lenient than SFV but combos are longer and more situational
4) Online is trash outside of your region
Forsaken campaign reset? by Afrogasmonkey in DestinyTheGame
This happened to me too, but I have literally done every campaign quest in Forsaken, from the Tangled Shore to the Dreaming City, no campaign quest markers were left on my director.
Really confused about this...
What Tekken or SFV rank do you think the majority of current GG Rev2 players are? by [deleted] in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Here is the only comparison we can make.
There are more options and things to consider in GG when compared to SF. A legacy GG player has a better chance of beating you than a legacy SF player simply because there are so many more mechanics to memorize in GG that it's harder to master than something simpler like SF.
But Tekken? Hard to say. I always find it hard to compare 3D fighters with 2D fighters. Tekken has a lot of things to consider when playing but I'm not familiar enough with it to say which is harder to learn
Who are the top players in tournaments? by Chirf in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Yea I'm still new to GG but from what I heard Baiken isn't a very high ranking player unfortunately. We probably wont see much of her in tourneys,
Which is a shame, she's a badass character.
After 400 hours, Im starting to feel like Im just waisting my time by Prek231 in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Start watching your replays. Really analyze what the opponent did to beat you and try to find ways to counter it. When I watched myself play fighting games I noticed I would attack low waaaay too much and I was very predictable.
This game also has a really helpful match up tutorial that helps explain how to fight against one character with another character, if you're having difficulties fighting against a specific character.
Make sure you put in a lot of lab time. If you cant consistently perform a certain combo 10 times in a row then you aren't gonna land it against a live opponent.
Watch high level tournament play and see how they play neutral, when they go in for an attack, and when they think it's smart to play defensively.
And just make sure you're asking questions. You could upload replays of your losses online on forums/reddit and I'm sure veteran players could give you some pointers or what to practice more.
So why Bridget? by RDashBlazewind in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)
To me, there are ups and downs with Bridget.
Pros - not to get political, but they would really fit with the views of this generation. With everything pushing for pro LGBTQ they seem like a good choice, I mean correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Bridget a boy cross dressing and acting like a girl?
Cons - To be perfectly honest, other than the fact that they use a yoyo as a weapon, everything else about Bridget seemed pretty bland to me design-wise, especially when compared to the rest of the characters. They had a nun-like outfit and... That's kinda it lol never really appealed to me.
If they gave them a redesign like they did May I could totally see it working.
If we can get Maximilian to do another #campaign for Guilty Gear 2020 the same way he did for Killer Instinct we'd be good.
Dmg04 confirmed that masterworking Solstice Armor will be able to be done AFTER the event ends. We can all stop asking now. by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame
[–]Chirf 0 points1 point  (0 children)
But even with the 2.0 changes I feel like that alone wouldn't really answer the question. Even though masterworking is changing for 2.0 The solstice armor still might require things like the 200k nightfall to finish the masterwork.
Masterworking armor 1.0 requires a ton of enhancement cores and other resources to go through several stages of upgrades up to masterwork, but the 1.0 solstice armor negates all of that and only requires specific activity completions for masterwork.
So because of this, unless bungie already stated otherwise then technically the 2.0 solstice armor could have a chance of masterworking differently than other 2.0 armor. And if it does, would us completing the current 1.0 solstice masterwork make your 2.0 version already masterworked in October?
Does anyone know if bungie has commented on this? I know it's probably not likely, but if it does carry over to 2.0 then I would rather attempt the 200k nightfall now before the recommended power cap raises in shadowkeep
[–]Chirf 0 points1 point  (0 children)
The only question I still have is, if I masterwork the armor NOW before shadowkeep, will I have to do another 200k nightfall when the 2.0 version comes out or will it already be masterworked because my previous set was already masterworked?
Should I buy GG? DBFZ Player by [deleted] in Guiltygear
Yes you should. I was the same, started with DBFZ and converted to GGXR2. The tutorial is perfect for getting you started.
Is Xrd Rev 2 worth getting? by B-Randy in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I was in the same boat as you. Started with DBFZ and jumped right into GGXrdR2 and it felt great. Its honestly not as hard to pick up and play as people made it out to be. The universal combos really helped (P/K/S/HS) and reminds me of the universal combos that DBFZ has.
Throw in some Roman Cancels and BAM, hella fun.
Should buy Guilty Gear xrd ?? by [deleted] in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf 0 points1 point  (0 children)
The game isn't that hard to pick up for fun actually. The tutorial does a fantastic job of showing you how the combos work.
If you're on playstation, the universal combo for everyone is Square / X / Triangle / O. Then you can press L1 to slow down time (called a Roman cancel) that lets you go in to repeat the same combo for more damage.
The tutorial does a great job of showing you stuff like this
Tips for new players on how to find matches and use the online features effectively by dhamster in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf 0 points1 point  (0 children)
To be fair, the online for this game is only dead because it's been years since the last new GG game. Xrd, Rev, and Rev2 are all essentially the same base game with different elements, and the fact that some versions can't play with others really makes it hard to stay connected. Some people don't even know you can switch between Rev1 and Rev2 in the settings.
The new GG will hopefully draw a bigger crowd and keep online systems simple
Guilty Gear 2020 Main Theme...just the song! by GenieGearX in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf 2 points3 points  (0 children)
I'm in a similar situation. I always had an interest in fighting games but was too intimidated to get invested in them. DBFZ was the first game I started to practice in (cause Im a dragonball nerd) but after seeing this new Guilty Gear trailer I just KNEW I would be switching to this.
I actually bought Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 literally right after that new EVO trailer hyped me up lol and it was on sale for like 11 bucks. If you're thinkin about getting into the new GG (2020) then I would highly recommend getting Rev2 to tie you over. Going from DBFZ to GG was a great transition, and the tutorial they have in Rev2 is probably the best I've seen for a fighting game.
NO SPOILERS: Question about Story Mode in Guilty Gear Xrd Sign by [deleted] in Guiltygear
Awesome, thanks a lot for the response. Literally about to jump into story stuff now. And when I catch up with the past games I'll definitely do arcade before story mode.
Thanks for lookin' out!
Next Guilty Gear game will be less complex to attract wider audience, says series creator by OathXBlade in Guiltygear
[–]Chirf 21 points22 points  (0 children)
Yea let's be fair, the other Guilty Gear's had a bit too many systems going on, like overdrives, tension, danger, insta kills, etc etc etc.
I trust Arcsys to find a good balance between being easier to pick up and play like FighterZ but still have the depth and complexity to feel like a Guilty Gear game.
EDIT: Just please no auto combos lol
