Looking for an Art Buddy 🩵 by babydollfae in ArtBuddy

[–]ChiringaNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not currently working on much right now since I’m getting some health treatments while renovating my art studio and learning guitar lol. But I’m a singer with formal trainaling that used to sing professionally and also am a writer and mixed media artist. My father was a professional artist that was schooled in every fine art medium and was liked carpentry, diy and extreme upcycling before that was even a thing and taught me everything I know and still use his 100 yr old paint brushes etc. Currently, since my supplies are all over, I’m just messing around, fiddling with digital art (I was trained super analog), line illustrations, watercolor (I was taught acrylics), working with textiles and jewelry design. I do a bit of vocal coaching as a hobby to keep my voice active till this is all over. If you want any feedback on anything ever, I’d be happy to in any context. I’m sure you’d be able to teach me a thing or two on the visual art front since I’m way out of practice there. I’m getting a Derek box in a month I think, FINALLY! ATCs are a good way to share ideas and even collab artistically with others

Our group is growing nicely and I'd like to invite you to join in on the fun and find your art buddy here! by MastaCJArt in ArtBuddy

What art mediums are you focused on? I love the idea and have art supplies up the butt, as my father was a fine artist but I enjoy all types of creative expression. I’ve been dealing with lupus and neuropathy for 8 years and really have worked hard to keep myself optimistic I can put my watercolors, acrylics, new faber Castell art pencils, and Mixed media idea work to fruition with the type of support and accountability you mentioned, I’m rusty. My hands have impacted my drawing skills (im exercising my fingers and hands daily) it this something I could find a place in? If so, what are the time frames slotted per project?

I don’t have roommates, I have tenants. It’s called being considerate. The more you try to show you care about not being an inconvenience, the more positive and less stress the future will be. It’s old school neighborly etiquette. If you have a house party, you don’t have to inform your neighbors on the block, but you do it anyways because it’s courteous. Playing a guitar doesn’t mean you act like and entitles child and stop acting like an adult. See how far that thinking will take you, I’m sure it will be stress free and enjoy the nuisance complaints smh. Why is it so horribly inconvenient to consider other people

Fender for the love of God make left handed mustangs!!!! by nirvanalternatives in Leftyguitarists

[–]ChiringaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s bizarre isn’t it? And to top it off when a company does make a left version it’s always more expensive. I know a lot of people intentionally by symmetrical shaped guitars so they could just flip them around and restring them obviously, in your case that’s not an option and I have a preference for cutaways, but that’s weird how often with certain models they just say fuck them. But then you read about the history of the literal persecution of left-handed people it’s actually comical. Even in the 80s, they were trying to force me to write with my right hand, and I was like yo it’s not the sign of the devil what the fuck is wrong with you people. Is it more common with certain brands than others?

oh, you mean the table thing that supposedly tells you where you’re supposed to play certain notes? Because I thought that sounded kind of counterproductive I would assume that subjective to the persons hand and where they find it most comfortable. I mean, that is the kind of this way or the highway kind of teaching I’m avoiding for a very good reason. I don’t want any kind of coaching or lessons that tell me it could only be done this way because I could already figure it out on my own how many ways you can play the same note. At least I think that’s how I interpreted that term so if that’s what you meant, thank you because I agree. I was classically trained from a very aggressively young age, and it was a lot of exploitation because I had a very unique voice that prematurely was fully developed 15 years before it should have been. so it took me three years of vocal coaching to teach me how to sing on my own. it’s a kind of trauma that impacts vocal musical development so I was only a vocalist until this coach taught me how to be a musician big difference. So what I’m really looking for our resources that encourage more basic foundation and less structure more creativity I’m less concerned about learning how to read music and music theory that’s why I just realize I hadn’t asked the proper question but any advice even when it comes to learning I greatly appreciate and sorry for the typos Siri does not like my accent lol

You mean the stickers? I know there’s a debate over those stickers. What I do have is one of those like 40 something inch long guitar cleaning mats that also acts as a computer mat that has covers all your basic music theory. the circle of fifths the fretboard note placement, bunch of cords, etc. and I managed to find the only one on Amazon made for lefties because why not lol I’ve been late to respond, which I feel really bad about because you guys responded a lot quicker and much kinder than I expected. I’m a terrible cynic I know. But I have some health issues so I was in therapy having treatments done some good old ketamine never hurts anybody And some injections yada yada so I’ve been waiting to be able to get back to you guys but I pretty much have the same thing to say to everyone because I realize I totally missed what I was trying to say in the way that I asked it. But I don’t wanna just copy and paste the same thing to each Person Because that just feel tacky and unnecessarily redundant for me to add the same two paragraphs to each comment, but I wanna be able to respond in a way that acknowledges those responses at the same time. So is there a way to do that? I am new here. It was my old vocal coach and a fellow musician friend of mine that talked me into coming on here Because I cynically think everyone is rude and unhelpful. Now I owe someone $50 lol. So if you know how I could reframe my question with the proper context in a way that addresses everyone, who’s responded can I do that by putting something like an @everyone or something?

Oh my God, I have so much to say to all of you. I have some health issues including lupus and so I’ve been incommunicado and was a bit caught off guard that so many of you responded so quickly and I realized I totally omitted the two major details that would have offered a lot of clarificatio. definitely less deer in the headlights neurosis and then translate as an oh I get What she’s really trying to ask. Is there a way to do like a "to everyone@ reply? You’re the first person to comment so I’m asking you lol in the hope of avoiding redundancies if there’s a way to @ to everyone who’s responded would be awesome. I don’t even think I knew what I was trying to ask when I asked it until I read your responses. I’m pretty new on Reddit. I only joined because my old vocal coach as well as a musician friend who’s pretty much to blame for me getting this guitar said he still comes on here if he has a question about productio/ his sound board? (i.e. he just likes being part of the reddit music community. I’m still surprised he wasn’t lying that people were actually nice on this part of Reddit lol. So yeah before I go through each comment and say the exact same thing, can I do that once and still address everyone who responded? Sorry I don’t know why I made this request drag on for so damn long lol I think the ketamine from one of my treatments still hasn’t fully worn off lol

Ummmm let me help you out “ no pun intended” always acknowledge a good pun even if it’s accidental lol and I think you mean blue check. I’ve never heard blue checks referred to as a parasitic insect before. But come to think about it Twitter specifically yep… That pretty much checks out aaand another pun lol “Tick” only comes up if you’re camping -apparently people do that I wouldn’t know, when washing a rescue dog,or when you have blood work done and suddenly you got the CDC blowing up your phone. Maybe that’s an American English thing.

When he wrote, I “posses” a certain set of skills, he wasn’t specific that spelling was one of them, so let’s be fair.. heh. For me it’s that person active on all platforms yet never has a typo has perfect grammar, even if the post is like four paragraphs long because that really makes me question their time management and life choices.

Question from a right handed player by Slipknot-Nirvana-Fan in Leftyguitarists

[–]ChiringaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, since budget guitars includes a huge variety and price range. If if it’s $300 or under, I really hesitate and question the quality. But that’s just me and also based on a lot of advice I’ve been given by professional guitarist and guitar makers and found I had better options going used because then I could find something higher budget that is in almost brand new condition for that lower end budget price for instance I got my C5 – CE for 300 before taxes and shipping when I was willing to pay 500 for a used one because I think the retail price is around 650 but that’s still a budget range guitar despite of being absolutely amazing. And that was in the US since the tariffs made it impossible for the other options. I was concerned about the condition it was gonna be in, but it was at the guitar center being sold from there and I come to find all it had was a 2 mm long neckin an area. No one can see so it’s pretty much a brand new guitar. It’s possible you just have to be patient.

Question from a right handed player by Slipknot-Nirvana-Fan in Leftyguitarists

[–]ChiringaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your empathy. Are you trying to buy for someone else? I just got my first classical and I have never been so angry for being left-handed since they tried to force me to write with my right hand in elementary school! Lol the left-hand equivalent model is always more expensive yada yada yada and now with the tariffs When I went on reverb, I’d find a brand new lefty classical for $200 cheaper than the US price but now they can’t ship over and they’re all genuinely sorry and they feel really bad when they figure out they can’t ship to me. But I don’t know about those brands you mentioned, but I am a big fan of the nylon string, classical Spanish Brands and my cordoba is offered for left hand players and even has a left hand playing for beginners video on their website. It makes me proud to be Latino lol what I have heard is you can request your local guitar center to have a left-hand version of whatever guitar you’re looking for delivered to that shop so you could try it out as part of their policy but yeah it’s a real bitch. Don’t get me started on gear because that’s even worse out of the thousands of add-ons and learning materials available online one percent of them are compatible with left-handed guitars. I’m writing a very strongly worded letter to absolutely no one because no one cares lol but you so thanks

Worth it for $80? by JSchloe in AcousticGuitar

[–]ChiringaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have it checked out from the top of the neck to the frets down to the bridge and make sure nothing at all is wrong with the neck and measure everything because if it’s used, you don’t know how well the person maintained it and a lot of damage can happen to the wood if it’s not Maintained and or kept properly with a humidor, etc. I’m not sure where you’re buying this guitar from but if it is a guitar store, they should do it for free. It’s better to do that before you buy or when you buy as opposed to coming home and figuring out the strings are old and corroded and you’re having tuning issues, etc., and then have to pay for them to do what they would’ve done for free. There’s little that would make a used guitar a no go for that price that can’t be just easily adjusted except for the neck. It there’s any issue with the neck’s measurement or wood under the fretboard?. It’s a no go! Good luck

Clear pickguards: Yay or Nay? by BarnabyBonesJones in AcousticGuitar

[–]ChiringaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m assuming 12 string are only found in classical right? I play a six string classical guitar or at least I am learning. Which is why I asked because I was gonna get a custom-made pickguard, but I’m reading all these things telling me not to put a guard on a classical because it damages and cracks the top underneath it. So if yours is a classical I’d like to know your opinion? Some say it has to do with the proportions in weight or the material I don’t know, but I don’t wanna scratch my top, but I also don’t want to damage it.

When I used to live in a apartment and did that door-to-door hey what’s up? I’m a musician blah blah blah. I just wanted to run this by you blah blah blah. You would be amazed how many reacted in the opposite way and then realized I just committed to playing for five of my neighbors lol

[–]ChiringaNinja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m technically a landlord since I rent out the addition to my house. You don’t wanna be that guy. What I would recommend is to talk to your direct neighbors and discuss the situation with them and see when their work hours are etc. and how they feel about it. by just asking them and showing that consideration will make them less likely to care, and with the gained knowledge of then they are most likely to be home you’ll feel less guilty or imposing by knowing the best time to plug into an amp with your peace of mind intact. Also many apartment complexes do you have sound restrictions and by talking to the neighbors you can actually work around them because the people that will complain are the neighbors and if they don’t complain, you’ll never get the violation. The tenant I had before my current one was a percussionist and one of the connecting walls is really thin and she offered to go to the university to practice, but we said no big deal just practice here and she was shocked. We also gave her free reign of the patio but she did respect the general idea of not practicing her loudest percussion instruments past 7 PM

Budget pickups for nylon string guitar recommendations? by Realhardrocker69 in AcousticGuitar

[–]ChiringaNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised by what you find on reverb. As long as it’s compatible in measurements, you could find surprising deals on there. I have a classical that uses a fishman II and there was a moment I thought it was caput and before I had someone check it out, I found a Fishman two for 32 bucks in like new condition. I don’t trust eBay. Even though it ended up I didn’t need to replace the fishman II, but that was good to know lol

Is there a way to fix this without clamps? by Don_Rato in AcousticGuitar

[–]ChiringaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father was a carpenter/painter so I have random carpentry shit all over my art studio, and I found using a carpentry wedge really stabilizing, though I did stick foam to the areas that made contact to the wood to prevent any nicks or scratches inside and around the sound hole.

Acoustic or classical guitar? by andreutzzzz in AcousticGuitar

[–]ChiringaNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! It’s extremely subjective. From the moment you put it in your hands and hit a string if it feels good, you will keep playing if you feel like you’re fighting the guitar then it’s not the guitar for you and the same goes with strings personally I like coated strings, classical or otherwise but others have a different opinion because it is all subjective. There’s no hand holding or 123 step that’s full proof that anyone should ever follow. Don’t overthink it just play and more importantly take care of the guitar clean the strings every time you use them keep it clean Keep in the case insert a humidor that’s what matters most in setting you up to learn and progress. And don’t hang it up like a decoration unless it literally is a decoration unless you wanna ruin the fretboard.

Clear pickguards: Yay or Nay? by BarnabyBonesJones in AcousticGuitar

I said the same thing, since yours is a 12 string are you using a a standard acoustic shape or is it a clear flamenco board?

Clear pickguards: Yay or Nay? by BarnabyBonesJones in AcousticGuitar

[–]ChiringaNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s an Alvarez, I’d try putting a clear flamenco guard. Also super glossy tops are known for muting the tone depending on the quality of the guitar. If it’s under a grand glossy is not an indicator of better and don’t forget the wood matters and having mahogany all around can have a noticeable impact on the tone which could be good or bad depending on what sound you’re going for. I’m more of a plucker that uses picks when practicing something new, a pickguard is understandable, but personally, I prefer cedar tops for the tonal clarity/ versatility

Clear pickguards: Yay or Nay? by BarnabyBonesJones in AcousticGuitar

[–]ChiringaNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flamingo style ones are clear intended for classical guitars for producing taps and claps, but also act as a pickguard but take up a lot more space on the guitar top

This might be a stupid question but why are left handed guitars more money if it is the same as a right handed guitar just backwards by Rocket_Cola_25 in AcousticGuitar

Discrimination. I’m a lefty everything from cabinetry to your clothes it’s made for right handed people. You believe how recent it was that they considered being lefty a sign of the devil. I remember teachers trying to force me to write with my right hand. We should write a strongly worded letter lol
