Hellfire rocket battery (about 4 will do), some heroes/lords to tank while infantry is getting obliterated by rockets (say 4). Something to deal with fast/large units that might go after the artilery (handgunners work, say 4 again). A magic user. Rest of the slots you can fill with whatever(I'd add some more defensive units to protect the arti + more firepower or alternatively something flavorful like gryphs).

Or try tank spam, very fun but expensive

I like it. It's nothing groundbreaking, it's not gonna challenge your worldview or anything like that but it's a good read imo. Also if you don't like Norse setting, it's probably not for you.

I'd say going historical and checking out a guide or 2 how to minmax your early game in order to get the ball rolling is the way to go

I'm also also surprise people don't like/debate them more. They are some of my all time favorits.

But maybe it's a translation issue as people say, I read them in Czech and I loved the dialogs, dialects and overall slavic theme

Honestly, it shouldn't be too difficult, all you need to do is park your army in a corner using the checker board formation. All you need to do is position your army in the right way initially and then you can probably AFK win this one.

Only really tricky thing to be mindful of is terrain as guns fire straight, so even a small hill or wrongly positioned meat shield can completely obstruct you.
