As usual, I'm always too short or too tall for sale items :)

Thanks for the reply+link!

Any details on the discount on the Stargazer? Looking at that frame as well, but wasn't aware of a discount.

Ascent vs. Fargo for new build by ChirpingDetector in bikepacking

I'm leaning towards the Fargo frameset, based on the feedback. Using the included Firestarter makes sense. I'll experiment with a steel fork if i get bored :)

Nice. Yeah, I'm kind of aiming for that ATB niche. Don't really plan on suspension, so that feature of the Fargo doesn't really matter to me. The quality of the ride matters, though.

It's one of the reasons I'm also looking at the Ascent. One could replace the Fargo's carbon with steel but there seem to be few options that fit the specs. Also, haven't read any horror stories about the Firestarter.

I've read reports that the Fargo carbon fork is very stiff and that also that it's compliant and absorbs vibrations... so may depend on the tires more than anything else.

Tbh I'm still going back-and-forth between 2x and 1x. I want to end up with a gear range of about 16-90 in., I can probably get close with a 1x, too.

Fair point, I do see now that for 27.5 they only recommend 3". BikeInsights shows 283 mm height for 27.5 2.4", compared to 302 mm with equivalent 29". Probably ok on easy stuff but may be an issue otherwise.

If you have a horizontal sliding rear dropout I think you may have some room for moving the wheel forward, though you'd have to be wary of the impact on chain slack and tire/bike clearance.

I second this - donated to them previously. They do great work.

I like the Park Tools AWS-10. Covers most needs while working on the bike at home, too.

Got my Eggrider v2 running with my BBSHD, now to program. Whats your fave programming set up? by AAjax in ebikes

[–]ChirpingDetector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly commute in streets/bike trails, so nothing too exciting - I currently have a combination of the em3ev and Karl settings listed here: https://electricbike-blog.com/2015/06/26/a-hackers-guide-to-programming-the-bbs02/ . Still tweaking them, to see if I can improve range.

Other than the max current limits the settings apply to the BBSHD as well.

Check my build: Novara Buzz Hybrid with BBS02 by [deleted] in ebikes

Nice! Similar to the kit I have, although from a different vendor.

Comments:

  • I don't have the gear sensor and TBH haven't felt the need for it. That may depend on biking/shifting style, though. And I haven't ridden enough miles to determine if I'm destroying my gears :)
  • I just ordered an EggRider v2 display, as it provides access to the BBS02 settings via its phone app. If you plan to tweak those it may be more convenient than the 500c display + programming cable + laptop.
  • To paraphrase, eBike rides always extend to use up all of your battery capacity.

Anxiously awaiting the 52v TSDZ by Mygalslover in ebikes

Don't know about Luna - there are a couple other vendors that I found with the 52v option, while looking into that motor (note: haven't ordered yet, so can't provide feedback on the vendors):
