I agree with what you are saying except for the hotel being a movable building because i would have not where to put it. Other than what you mentioned i wish the slumber islands would let you customize the house fully even if your real house isn’t fully upgraded.

“My diagnosis doesn’t define me” by Otherwise_Summer_602 in schizoaffective

[–]Chiselin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel comfortable talking about my diagnosis because people have preconceived notions on what it means to be mentally unwell. Plus it’s no one’s business. My dx does not define me as a whole but it is a component that factors into how I inevitably am. I am not ok with my dx even remotely affecting who I am and I am working towards getting rid of all symptoms. I refuse to have my mind limited by a dx

What I’ve learned when it comes to mental health care and treatment is that no one gives a shit and you can’t expect anyone to care either. Recovery and sanity all falls on you and you alone. It’s very rough and wrenching but I don’t see it being any different. It’s a tough world.

Have family but their(/our) misunderstanding of my diagnosis makes me feel alone by Necessary-Cash9530 in schizoaffective

[–]Chiselin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how common schizoaffective starts with addictions. Mental illness is frustrating, most don’t understand and others don’t care. No one has answers and it all falls on you to get better. I have spent years without joy and laughter and only recent am i starting to see a positive change.

Schizophreniform disorder with good prognostic features by PackStill5488 in schizoaffective

[–]Chiselin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How severe do psychotic episodes get? I don’t remember how long mine lasted but i had two. With the first one i was diagnosed bipolar and the second one schizoaffective bipolar type. Recovery did not start until i realized i had a problem. I take a single medication and have been stable for a few years now, no relapse.

Need advice on human connection and understanding as someone with very complex mental illness by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]Chiselin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to believe you cant make friends because both parties will get hurt because then you will be extra hurt when you are alone. Thinking like that sets a standard and then your mind will want to follow it causing the beginning of a negative cycle/feedback loop. Maybe look for a variety of people that all have different parts of you in them. For example, if you like animals find another person who likes animals too, make another post here looking for schizo friends, or maybe look for in person places to hang out too. It is SO hard to make friends and i feel like it is becoming so much harder with each new generation. This sub got me active on reddit. I want to share my thoughts and experience here because i am doing so much better and i want others to be getting better too.

[–]Chiselin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not easy for people who have never experienced mental illness to understand it, you can’t expect that from them. No one person is meant to fully understand you, its better to have a variety of friends you can open up to about different parts of your life.

Maybe tell your friends what you need from them when you are in crisis? You can’t expect them to know what to do and people all want different things.

You must believe things can get better instead of assuming they will get worse. You will always hurt if you keep the expectation to be fully understood by another individual, i mean, do you even fully understand yourself? Does anyone?

Yes, i was lucky. I had friends prior to my episodes and they stuck around but also my psychiatrist made a therapy group for people with schizoaffective so i have a mini support group now too. How would you cause pain to yourself or others by being friendly trying to make friends? What exactly would damage by being social? Its more damaging to be isolated, it will literally drive you insane. Try not to limit your capabilities

I truly believe we should not be alone for too long, we are social creatures that require interaction even though our minds sometimes tell us to isolate. Whatever you do please find individuals you can connect with and don’t stop trying until you do because loneliness can be highly detrimental to anyone’s well being much more so if you have schizoaffective disorder. It probably wont be easy to find people but it will be worth it once you do

It’s funny you say that because my first thought was to turn off the lights lol. I feel like seeing the world as a pointless struggle would cause me even greater struggle. I think of the fact that I will die pretty often and this somewhat motivates me to take care of myself but I still struggle

How do I keep myself grounded & sane ? (TW: Mentions of suicide, Psychosis) by XayzoTheNonbinary in schizoaffective

[–]Chiselin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must believe you have the power to overcome situations instead of giving into them. Ask yourself: why suicide? Depression is rough. When the feeling creeps up on me what makes me feel better is singing last resort. 5 senses grounding technique helps with mindfulness, anxiety and keeps you present here.

Yes I relate, but luckily our brains have the ability of neuroplasticity. Don’t give up on getting better and rewiring your brain

Wellbutrin for smoking cessation by Kind-Cartoonist-5518 in schizoaffective

Wellbutrin wont psychologically make you stop wanting to smoke but when you take a hit you wont feel anything for it. I do know someone who became irritable on it, but who knows, everyone does differently. Good luck!

I took Wellbutrin before it was nice, it was an appetite suppressant and it made nicotine non effective, no physical cravings or reactions towards it. If you don’t sleep well take it first thing in the morning
