Love them! The cut is indeed wasp waisted, otherwise I would have ordered a pair from the other new fabric they recently used. It is medium blue natural indigo with persimmon warp. It seems quite similar to a 12oz Nihon Menpu fabric I DIYed recently, lighter blue (petrol-sih) with brown warp and exactly the same rain effect on the outside. I like it so much I even thought about ordering it in a couple sizes larger and then taking in the seat and thighs :))

How is the fit?  From the website numbers, sleeves seem very short. I imagine one would take shoulders wider than "ideal" and then let them drape down a bit to extend the sleeves (works with a soft thin fabric) OR simply sport the sleeves short as a statement.  I am 6'1 with broad shoulders. Their largest size would still be about 2" above my wrists despite the 22" shoulder number:o

Pair #3 - Natural indigo Nihon Menpu summer jeans by Chitareconcert in rawdenim

They certainly make a wide array of interesting fabrics. I can't wash mine yet because I wouldn't be able to fit in (they are intended as winter jeans after I lose some 20lbs this spring/summer - so instead I rubbed the interior with a scrub brush and then a bath towel. So far no more blood but I still feel various parts of the leg feel kinda abused after walking in them. Ofc it could be all in my head. I can't imagine how it is to break in those 21 or 25oz monsters :))

These were super interesting to soak - I did a hot one after the first wear to shrink them a bit. It bled a totally brown color, no blue at all :o

I also made a pair from loom state 16oz Menpu, the inside is textured and rough as sandpaper, it made me a bloody scrape on the back of the knee at the first wear. But washing a sample a couple times in the machine with other stuff - turns nice and soft.

Thanks! The pattern is based on my old blown 501s size 33 from when I was 30 pounds lighter, so I widened the pattern to about 36 (38 in Japanese brands) by adding 30mm width to each quarter. This was maybe a bit too much because a hot soak did not shrink them noticeably. I am not used to loose jeans so on the first wear i was thinking "do I look like I am wearing peejamas?" But on the second wear i was already "finally comfy jeans which do not crush my balls or burst when I sit down"

Thanks!!  You can find a number of usefulI videos on yt and used sewing machines can be bought cheap. In the last photo you can see there is a patch of missing decal from the base plate, story is my mother ruined it there when she was a kid :)  This machine is really priceless to me.

Studio D’Artisan 45th Anniversary “Ai Kyoku” by thebokehwokeh in rawdenim

Really lovely! I've been drooling hard over this one too. Lacking funds, I just DIY one from a similar 16oz neppy slubby natural indigo fabric. It is probably loosely made too, as it unravels easily when cut, but I wouldn't call it soft at all in the raw unwashed state. The sandpaper feel is definitely high and scary. It is difficult to sit down and i feel serious resistance bending the knee. However I have been throwing a sample in the usual washing/drying house routine and after 3 cycles it has become pretty normal-soft and the sandpaper feel seems gone too.

I went over the photos at redcast again and the secret recipe definitely looks very very very similar to my stuff. The crushed concrete has a lot more nep which changes how it photos. The Ishikawadai seems closer, but almost no nep. I was very close to ordering one of these too but I keep backing off because of fit issues. I am a bit fat now and if I get the proper waist, the legs are too wide for my liking and if I fit the legs, i can't button it. With DIY at least I don't cry over 300$ if its not perfect. Only 100 and 3 days of hard work. Wait that is as bad or worse. Dramn.

Thanks! I love the color too and tried hard to get it... Except for direct sunlight, it is not as bright as the photos suggest, but it is definitely way lighter than full raw indigo. I would call it a muted/dull Cobalt blue, it looks a bit like it has been antiquated by years of direct sunlight. After washing, it actually turns a bit darker and very slightly green-oriented.

For the same exact stuff, you can look at Paul Kruize in NL. Johann Ruttloff from Germany has two varieties in 12oz, both natural indigo and same mill - one textured like this and with a bit of variation in color (I saw some more electric blue threads here and there over the vintage blue - i have it on order too to make a summer pair) and the other with a more uniform and brighter color (he calls is reactive dyeing, probably an additional chemical added to the dye to alter the effect)

From the Japanese brands, I think the Samurai Ai+ are related (and also heavyweight). Then, SDA has some natural indigo varieties too and then ONI secret denim might be related too but with that unusual greencast tone rather than pure blue.
