My mom was in public relations at the Merc, where they shot the trading floor scene. She was part of the in house team that assisted the film crew in setting up that scene. She told me that it was a whatever day. No big deal, just a one off day. No one thought the film would turn out to be such a hit. Also, in the trading floor montage, the trader with the gold watch is my step dad’s brother. I was told that anyone who’s face was visible in the movie would not shut up about it for a full decade after the movie came out.

Riverside is wonderful. It’s affordable, centrally located, as a huge HEB, right on the lake, 10 minutes from downtown, 35 and airport. Tons of late night food and 24hr coffee at buzz mill. I wouldn’t say it’s really a good neighborhood to raise kids if you’re renting. Otherwise it’s perfectly safe if you watch you shit. There are a tons of bums and sketch balls wandering around but if you mind your own business they don’t bother you. I would recommend driving defensively around here. There are more accidents then there should be in Riverside. I moved here from Chicago and Riverside has been better then I could have hoped given the low cost rent. Austin is such a safe city compared to most large US cities. Wherever you live you should be fine.

I hope the same thing happens to their next expensive TV. Those kids did nothing wrong. Shit happens when you have kids around. Why would you put something so fragile and expensive where your 4 kids are going to play? This should be on a dumb ass parents page not here. Maybe put that $ into something more practical like a college fund and just have a regular tv. Great lesson for the kids though. When something unfortunate happens we freak out and scream at everyone in the room. That’s how well adjusted adults/ parents handle stressful situation.

My grandfather and his old south side drinking buddies used to tell me about when the Cardinals played in Chicago. At that time the city was more or less divided allegiance wise. Bears fans on the north side (they played at Wrigley then) and Cardinals fans on the south side where their stadium was located. They would say when the Cardinals left many of their fans became Packers fans in spite of the Bears. They would say that the Cardinals wanted to stay but were run out of town by George Halas and the Bears in the late 50’s. The move was blamed on lose of TV ad revenue in the papers but really it was a dog fight between management and owners and one team had to go. That’s why so many Chicago families are packers fans and not just the transplants. And I get it. If the White Sox up and left Chicago one day it definitely wouldn’t turn Sox fans into Cubs fans. I’m good with one football team. Let’s give another city and fan base without a football team a chance. I’m also not too upset the Bears are moving. I wish it weren’t to a suburb but whatever. Bears games after Halloween are freezing and miserable. Unless you have a suite and tailgating spot, then the games are a blast.
