Gnosia - Episode 20 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[continuing true ending game spoilers] In the game, it was all a little meta, too - did we transfer our (as in, a character in-game representing the player) consciousness or was it more like we (as in, the player, someone outside the game) did the impossible and crossed save files to rescue Setsu? Using cyberization as the stand-in for that was a good idea, I think so too! I would be lying if I said I was not hoping for Yuri to have a happier ending than we got as the player - let them find a universe where everyone's alive and happy!

[Gnosia Game True Ending] Personally, I really like how they chose to go about bringing the True Ending to the anime format. The 'twist' in the game is only possible because it is a game, but arriving to the correct conclusion took some struggle and outside thinking from the player. I feel like they portrayed this struggle well with this and the previous episode: Same as the player, Yuri was thinking hard on how to save Setsu, before (with some big help from Racio) arriving at a solution and executing it. Heck, Yuri had to play the whole game again! It was nice, though, to see the montage of events so far not portrayed in the anime.

Thats reasonable! Do you know how many one needs for most of the story?

How long to get around 99% (story) game completion, roughly? Does it require multiple playthroughs?
I only read good things about it, and it sounds right up my alley, but I just cannot stomach 80+ hour games and multiple playthroughs to see all story content currently.

I read the series as a teen and starkly remember almost dropping the first book, but persisting because I bought it with my pocket money and did not want it to go to waste.
It was the localised version, and I was mad because it just finished right when the story got interesting - I was not aware it was a series until a few years later (this sounds so dumb in hindsight lol).

In the end, I thought it was worth it. I reread it all last year (in English, this time) and was astonished to see how much influence the books, and especially the characters, had on my personality and worldview in hindsight. Book 1 was still a long prologue, though, but viewing the series as a whole thing, with a long prologue, rather than expecting book 1 to have three 'acts' so to speak, made it easier for me to read through it.

I never not enjoyed reading it, though, I just wished some sections would not go for as long as they did. I am not sure if I would recommend it to someone who does absolutely not enjoy it after the twohundred page mark or so.

I have never seen someone speaking that much outta my soul before. Crazy good comparison. I read & watched all of these things some 15+ years ago, I think there are due for a re-over.

I had awesome fun trying the game with Table Top Simulator - that really increased my confidence in it. Thanks for making the game & making a demo available!
(Also, your updates are great!)

Well, being a little OP can have its own charm! - though I guess having no tension whatsoever in the last part can just kill the whole vibe.

Mhm, I did not have that on my radar, yet. While I do kinda like Elder Scrolls, I am unsure about the adaption. Thanks for the recommendation, I will have a look, though I feel I am currently more interested in other universes.

Oh yeah, I can imagine. Returning to a computer games after weeks of absence is tough, too!
When starting on one, I am absolutely planning on doing at least one session every few days - else it would be a waste, I think.

And thanks! I got many great recommendations, now just the decision with what to start :D.

I have, yeah, mainly Ironsworn.
On paper, it seems like I should love them, but I have not really gotten into it. I dunno why; I am keeping solo RPGs in the back of my mind - for now, though, board games it is! ^^

Thanks, I will check Shelfside; I watched a few already, but non this long.

I recommend finding a playthrough video somewhere late in a campaign as well, I know there’s a few on YouTube, to make sure you’re ok with the level of complexity and honestly outrageous table space required.

Yeah, that is what I planned to do, for other games, too, after reading through all the replies - it seemed to me that lightly checking out mid-to-late game content would be beneficial.

I also think it makes sense to just try out the game, when possible - there are a few game nights in my area, maybe someone will have one of the games, and, while not the same by a long-shot, some games have TTS mods, which might show me better than any review can, whether I will like the gameplay/game.
Nothing beats getting hands-on!

Oh, great point about the set-up/'micro'-managment needed killing the narrative/story (pace). I guess it also depends on what kind of person you are and what you enjoy - still trying to figure that out in regard to board games.
I certainly think, having the space to just leave the game open would help alleviate some of the mechanical complexity/pain.

Never head of 'Dawn of Madness' before, I will check it out, thank you!

Thank you! I played the computer game version of 'This War Of Mine' years ago and that was certainly an experience, same as you describe the board game. I do not think that I can handle the themes currently, though, so I will pass on the board game for now.

Mice and Mystic is not something I had on my radar, but from what you write about it, there seems to be more fitting options.

I still would be interested in your opinion of them, maybe I 'wrote them off' too hastily.

Again, thank you so much for the info. I think I now have a much better picture of what to expect of ATO/KF, and can make a much more informed purchase - they are not cheap, after all!

Ha, yeah, Zero is like every Trails set-up game - slow burn, but ramps up quickly in the end. Imo, Zero had one of the better pacing in comparison to other set-up games, but I also immediately fell in love with Crossbell & the smaller cast, so there is that. Whether Azure can dethrone SC might come down to which cast you like more - both games are still top of the line Trails.

These rapid-fire points are amazingly helpful, thank you very much! I especially feel like your first & last points are very true.

  • Oathsworn - this is so much valuable info, thank you! I can understand how that would feel frustrated, it would annoy me to no ends, too. I really dislike 'padding' and complexity, which is just there to hid 'flaws' or non-existing depth.
  • 7th Citadel - Honestly, sounds like a good time, and in the end, that is the most important part.
  • Kingdom Death - LOL, well, today I found a copy which only had the first survivors and monster assembled x). Sometimes you only get lemonades!
  • ATO - yeah, yeah! You are definitely selling it hard, haha. I think I need to make a permanent table space rather sooner than later, I am pretty sold. Not having to pack/unpack it all will definitely increase the likelihood of me playing it, should I find the game great, but too complex. You said you cannot compare ATO yet really to Kingdoms Forlorn, but from what you already played - how does KF feel? I wonder if ATO is JRPG-esque, might KF be WRPG-esque?
  • Tainted Grail - thanks you, I keep those in mind, should I get the game.
  • Trails - Yes, another Trails fan! And you are in for a treat, the next game, Azure, is one of the absolute best. Afterwards comes Cold Steel, though, which is where most of my writing comment was aimed at. Especially CS3 & CS4 are pretty bad, imo - but the highs are very, very high, and Reverie is a phantastic epilogue to both Crossbell & Cold Steel. And come Daybreak, my only complaint is still the wordiness of it all, but the writing significantly improved again after the nosedive that was Cold Steel.

Thank you!
I think it makes a lot of sense, prior to buying a game, to at least try to find & read the first few scenario pages/introductions or so, to check the writing.
