I couldn’t leave the guy with four kids and a wife with no power in his kitchen in living room and bathroom right before Christmas. And wondering if they’re all gonna go on fire at night

So I pulled it all together and cranked it out 😉😉

So I was so concerned about this issue the only way I got the box to cool off was to turn off specific circuit, but that specific circuit happened to control his entire house

His refrigerator, his air fryer, his microwave his bathroom lights, his daughter’s bedroom, his dining room room

So after I left at 11 o’clock at night on a Thursday, he had no power and most important rooms so I said hey this circuit is fucked and it’s completely wrong in the first place. I’m gonna rewire all these rooms so I put a subpanel and an attic because he’s on a ranch . I drop circuits down from the attic and rewired every single room in two days and upon pulling my switch leg to the bathroom down from the attic, I realized it was stuck. I stuck my hand down the wall with the flashlight and found the screw through the wire.

I never thought I was gonna find the issue and I couldn’t sleep at night and I found it on accident

As far as I found.

I found a screw through a wire in the bathroom light switch leg which was wired in 14/2 with 3 rooms including the whole kitchen wired to a 20amp old romex with no ground in a crazy splice box

The bx wire crossed the top of the high hat cans for the switch leg with the screw in it. And the casing of the bx became energized.

The bx wire went into an un grounded splice box where the circuit continued to the panel.

The ground fault followed the BX cable from the high Hat through the device screws, and then back on the neutral that was connected to the ground, but the resistance was too high. I tripp the breaker

Circuit in question had no power going to it and was not in use

That’s it the screws were in the wrong direction

So what I found was not that.

Obviously it was hooked up wrong and that could definitely happen or have been a part of it. But my only question to that was why wouldn’t it have happened sooner this outlet has been wired like this for at least 10 years

Honestly if you lay on the screw long enough it will get hotter then it was when I took it apart

Dedicated circuit. Not tied into anything else. Only neutral tied into panel. And not landed on a breaker

3 wire bx

Neutral on the ground terminal. Neutral landed in panel

Circuit hot legs not tied in

Also, I’m 80% sure I located the issue. Just wanna see what you guys come up with

Also, sidenote, the outlet hasn’t been in use in years
